Troy Maxwell is a private detective soured on life. He’s spent so many years investigating and observing the darker sides of life and relationships until he no longer believes in true love. It’s time for a vacation, a long vacation. But when his best friend shows him a photograph of a rancher in Wyoming and offers him a new case, Troy can’t turn away. The stunning, well-built man in the picture calls to him in ways Troy hasn’t felt before.
It takes only a few minutes in rancher and horse breeder Rafe Morgan’s presence for Troy to realize that not everything is as it seems. And it takes only a few more minutes for him to realize that Rafe has the capability of making him break his rule about mixing business with pleasure. But Troy is living a lie and, as it always does, the truth comes out. When an explosion of anger leads to an even more violent explosion of passion, Troy comes to the startling conclusion that Rafe is one man he can’t afford to let get away.
First, though, he has to unwind the tangle of lies he’s created and win back Rafe’s trust. No one has ever accused Troy of giving up easily, and he’s about to prove just how stubborn he can be when it really counts...
Troy's been called in to get 'the dirt' as it were about the workings of the Double M ranch. The ranch has passed to Rafe as the only son, but the client in the case is the younger illegitimate son after his share of the pie. Troy only took the case after seeing a picture of Rafe who is just the kind of man Tony wants. One night of just a little too much drink spills the beans for Troy and Rafe gets the truth out. Now it's up to Troy to win back the man's trust and his heart. A very engaging short read.
This is definitely a girl's take on a man's world. I mean both Scarlett O'Hara and Pollyanna were referenced. Large patches of time are skipped without explanation (our two heroes meet, then the next scene is a week or two later, etc.), the plot is mostly nonexistent and entirely too easily wrapped up. It's not terrible, but it irritated me too many times. There are better (and worse) out there. Go find them.
This was a nice short little story. I love cowboys falling in love. I was able to read this in one sitting. The author got to the point and did not let any situation drag on as some authors do. I enjoyed this. Good read.
Nice enough story, but somehow I never really got into it. I read it straight through, but sort of felt like I was skimming the whole time. I think it was more the book itself that was skimming, and a bit more depth would have been most welcome.
