Simple recipes with interesting ingredients like cheese and mustard bread make this a great book. I bought this a few weeks ago in a second hand shop because Shulman is the author of my favorite chili recipe, and I am so glad I did because it doesn't seem to be available many places anymore. Every recipe I've made is really quite good; the downfall of the book (4 not 5 stars) is the lack of ingredient weights in the recipes.

Shulman's bread recipes are easy to follow and she gives a good amount of discussion (but not too much!) before each chapter. Many of the recipes are whole grain without the hoopla some cookbooks put with each whole grain recipe. Shulman understands that whole grains are just good and more interesting than using all-purpose flour for all the breads.

There are sections for savory and sweet yeast breads, rustic breads, sourdoughs, and even a few quick breads. I want to make them all.

Shulman’s books are always a delight. These recipes open the door to experiment with new ventures in brad baking. These recipes are geared for the home cook & every recipe I tried was delicious.
