About 4 issues each headlining each Archie character.
Archie first started out looking like Howdy Doody and has always been a small clutz.
Betty has an issue where she has a shotgun and puts dry ice in the tub to shoot it into clouds to make a rainy day for Archie. Betty has short bobbed hair and $25 IS A LOT for a hat circa 1940s.
Juggy as a math genius and a hard time staying away from Moose's girlfriend, Lottie. Must be pre Midge days.
Reggie has a hard time with football and some other bullying.

If you too spent your childhood hoarding change to buy the latest Archie comic and arguing with your Dad over whether Betty or Veronica was prettier, this collection is fun. If you didn't, its charm will likely elude you. I decided to list some random things I learned and noticed while reading this because writing a proper review is beside the point, yes?

--Archie, Betty and Jughead all appeared together in the very first Archie comic in 1941. Veronica and Reggie followed in 1942.

--Archie definitely got better looking after 1942.

--It's weird to hear Jughead use the word "dame."

--It's also funny to see social mores reflected in Jughead's hat etiquette. In the earliest issues, he takes it off when he's at school.

--Archie and Jughead hanging around outside of the cooking class trying to pinch food. How times have changed.

The comics are beautifully restored. I would have liked a preface. There's nothing the editors wanted to shared about the genesis and history of this 70 year old comic?

(and Betty is still prettier, Dad.)

If you enjoy Archie comics then you will want this book as it presents some fascinating first appearances of various characters, including the entire story that they appeared in along with other stories. Archie comes first, of course. Betty also makes her appearance in the first story and neither of the characters look very much like they do in today's comics. Then we get to see the first appearance of Veronica who also looks like she does today.

In one of the early stories there is, unfortunately, some racism.

We also get to see early team appearance by Archie and Jughead, and then early stories with Betty and Veronica together. Jughead gets a section. The early Moose is shown looking more like a thug than today's Moose. The girl Moose was interested in was a blonde named Lottie Little. Then we have some stories with Reggie who seems to have changed least physically of all the major characters. We also see an early Ms. Grundy and Mr. Weatherbee.

I'm more a fan of the classic artwork than anything else. Personally never cared for Archie Andrews. Preferred Betty and Veronica. Jughead was alright though.
