Winner of the International Board on Books for Young People, Certificate of Honour, this story for young people teaches the lesson that honesty is the best policy. Ure comes from a poor but honest family, and works as a houseboy to pay his own school fees. Towards the end of his primary school days he is accused of stealing money. He is saved by the well-placed total trust of his parents and his teacher.
A VERY GOOD BOOK,INSPIRATIONAL TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE BORN POOR AND WANT TO MAKE IT IN LIFE, THE BOY URE CHOKWE WILL INSPIRE YOU.ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS.
Eddie Iroh managed to write a story that captures a snapshot of childhood in a timeless way. The nostalgic feel and themes of honesty, integrity, and hard work ring true today as much as they did when I read this book a couple of decades ago.
A very interesting read, a compelling story of a boy without a silver spoon. It brings to life the challenges that families face in the midst of poverty, the ideals parents want their kids to live up to, the importance of honesty, and how it pays off.
