Very dark and sinister. Seven stories total. "The Amazing Morpheus," "Dust Shadows of the Dead" and "Who Wants to Be a Survivor?" These three are my favorites to this collection. I really think Ms. Sangiovanni is the "female" version of H.P. Lovecraft. If the spine was a musical instrument, not only does she play it well, but orchestrates fear in very good literary ways. The writing is sharp and prompt. The stories never let up with suspense and intrigue. Much like THE HOLLOWER, Mary has proven to be an elitist in the future of horror. I always like to start with an author's first work. I admire the "rawness" of earlier works as opposed to later reads. Hopefully, Ms. Sangiovanni keeps playing the music of the night. And oh what sweet music she makes...

Every single one of the short stories in this collection is an absolute gem, and there's enough variety...science-fiction, fantasy, noir, et al...to satisfy just about everyone's tastes! Establishing a connection with the characters in a short story can sometimes prove challenging, but Mary SanGiovani does so with ease, allowing the reader to become fully immersed in these brilliantly crafted tales, often on the edge of their seat until the final page. An immensely enjoyable read, from start to finish!
