Pocket Guide to Dinosaurs

Rate this book
What really happened to the dinosaurs? Did they live and then die out millions of years ago? Or have they lived recently, alongside man? Did dinosaurs evolve into birds? Are there dinosaurs alive today? More than any other subject, dinosaurs are used to promote the idea of evolution. Museums, media and schools all proclaim that dinosaurs died millions of years ago. They also teach that the birds in your backyard are actually descendents of dinosaurs. But what is the truth? Only when we start with the Bible can we understand the true history of dinosaurs.

Every time I come to reading one of these creationist pocketbooks, it is under the same circumstances. Being caught in any book lover's least favourite scenario - a substantial period of waiting around, and your current book left at home - I jumped onto the Internet Archive. Since these are always clocking in at around 100 pages, they're a short-term thing, meaning they will hardly disrupt your other books.

This time, I settled on dinosaurs as the focus topic. I figured there would be some pretty outrageous statements, set starkly against the accepted standard for scientific fact, and I was right. However, I actually really liked this one - not because I can exactly say that I accept everything Ham and his AiG colleagues argue for. Rather, I was actually surprised at the angle taken, first of all. I was expecting a complete denial that dinosaurs ever walked the earth. Instead, it is argued - and not without some eloquence - that they coexisted with humans, that they lived not millions of years but merely thousands of years ago, and that they were all vegetarians before the Fall.

Stated blankly like that, it does sound absolutely ludicrous. Something one could bust their guts over, if only it weren't so detrimental to the scientific literacy of those who believe it. But honestly, this book was very thought-provoking in my opinion. It does raise some interesting questions, and it points out certain areas where evolutionary assumptions do seem to be given free reign, without the level of scrutiny and hard-line scepticism that follows any religious claims on history and science. Also, and most challengingly, the writers do go to great lengths to logically bolster their ideas in Scripture.

As much as people like Richard Dawkins must absolutely loathe AiG and its outreach, at least he must appreciate that they are the forerunners in arguing against theists trying to straddle the middle-ground between evolution and the Bible.

I love these pocket guides! Easy to read format and just gives you all the information you need. I love how they breakdown both the Biblical stance and the secular one. Dinosaurs have always been one of the most curious creatures to investigate. This factual little book is better than Jurassic Park simply because it is based on truth! This is just one of the many pocket guides they have. Highly recommend them!

A thorough introduction to the Biblical explanation of dinosaurs presented in parts by multiple authors/scientists. A true “pocket guide” that will peek your interest on the topic and make you say “I want to learn more about this!”
