கோபிகிருஷ்ணன் (Gopikrishnan) மதுரையில் பிறந்தவர். நவீன தமிழ்ச் சிறுகதையுலகில் தனித்துவமான எழுத்தாளராக மதிக்கப்படுபவர் கோபிகிருஷ்ணன். நடுத்தர வர்க்கத்தின் போலியான மதிப்பீடுகளையும் அவலங்களையும் தனது கதைகளில் தொடர்ந்து வெளிப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு வந்தவர்.

வறுமையான குடும்பச் சூழல் காரணமாகவும், தனது சுய அடையாளத்தை இழந்துவிடக் கூடாது என்ற விடாப்பிடியான முயற்சியாலும் ஆழ்ந்த மனச்சோர்வுக்கு உட்பட்டவராக இருந்தார் கோபி கிருஷ்ணன். இதற்காக உள நல மருந்துகளைத் தொடர்ந்து சாப்பிட்டு வந்ததால் உருவான பலவீனம் காரணமாக, அதிக நோய்மையுற்று அதிலிருந்து மீள முடியாமலே 2003ஆம் ஆண்டு காலமானார்.
