When "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books first came out I loved them. I even collected them. After the first dozen or so, the quality of the stories went way downhill. I actually gave up reading them. However, as I was sorting books as a volunteer at the library, I came across this volume on cats. We have two cats. (Actually, I should say they are my daughter's cats.) I was hoping that this book would be a winner. It wasn't.
The stories were mediocre as was most of the writing of the stories. We read this book aloud together. We both got so frustrated at the number of people who didn't keep their cats indoors for safety. How many cats were hit by a car and died? Many of the owners never considered spaying or neutering the animals. Cats everywhere. One of the writer's kept her 24-year-old cat alive even though it was in end stage renal failure, had no energy, and had dementia. What in the world? It is hard to let loved ones go, even animals, but to keep a dying cat alive seemed very selfish to me.
Needless to say, but I will say it anyway, this book was a letdown and very sad. Hardly any story had to do with the cat living happily. So many death stories. This book was pure torture, sorry to say. That's one reason it took us over 2 months to read it.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, and it certainly isn't a keeper on my shelf. we love dogs and I thought we might read the one about dogs. No way!

This is truly a wonderful book that any cat lover will thoroughly appreciate! The stories are excellent although sometimes heart wrenching, but all were thoroughly entertaining! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves cats, or any animal for that matter; well worth getting and savoring to the last story!!!

Do *not* read this if you're a cat/animal lover. This book is full of stories about cats hurting, being sick, abused, and dying. It was the very opposite of uplifting. And in the paraphrased but none-the-less iconic words of Bob Barker, spay and neuter your pets for crap's sake. It solves a mountain of problems!!!

I love each of these stories. So different, yet the tales of cats are so true.

Generally I avoid Chicken Soup books like the plague, as books purposefully written to be heartwarming are normally not anything I would want to read. (Once I counted all the Chicken Soup books at Barnes & Noble, and came up with about 35 titles, not including Chicken Soup for the Soul of Harry Potter’s Podiatrist.) However, my sister read this book and gave it to me, and told me to read it, so I have; and I found it surprisingly readable (and heartwarming), since I am a confirmed cat person from way back. (We currently technically have six cats, but two of them have also be adopted by neighbors, leaving us with four core cats and a few other cats who come by to eat now and again.)

The book’s stories, none longer than a couple of pages, are written by 101 different authors; each story is prefaced by a famous author quote about cats, and scattered through the book are cat-related Off the Mark cartoons by Mark Parisi. The stories in the beginning have to do with kittens, mostly, with the stories in the middle having to do with teenage and established settled cats. This means that the stories at the end of this collection have to do with cats making that journey over the Rainbow Bridge, which can be a tad depressing.

One hears over and over in the stories of people who had no intention of getting a cat ending up with one, either because they picked up a cat at the shelter or because the cat adopted them by simply showing up at the back door. Cats purr, scratch, leave dead mice for their owners, get spayed / neutered, and in general creep into the hearts of their people. Again and again, cats which seemed aloof become caring when one of their persons or another cat is ill or in need of solace.

This would be a wonderful book for a cat lover; the stories are indeed heartwarming (yes, I know I used that word three times, but this is a Chicken Soup book), and make a cat lover want to go out and adopt more cats (or be adopted by more cats).

Hey! You know what we used for bedtime stories when the Grandbabes where here? Not the old tried n' true kiddie stories. Nope! We went for the Chicken Soup for the Soul books on My Cats Life and My Dogs Life (two different editions). When College Girl was just a lil one, her favorite stories were from James Herriot's books on animals. The "All Creatures Great and Small" set was her first series of books that we purchased. Before it was the different story here and there. But reading about the lives of people and how they were affected by their pets always seemed to make our day anchored. Realizing that we are blessed so to have these creatures who love us without any reserve. Well, the Grandbabes loved the same thing in reading the stories collected in the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. Both of them so wanting to share their own stories of their pets. I think we have found a winner here. Always a new story available and many that bring a tear to your eye too.

I like cat stories and I like the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. These stories were great, especially since we recently got Crumpet.

Like the other Chicken Soup animal books, the last couple chapters deal with the death of the cats and remind us all that they give us ... tough chapters to read.

One thing I don't understand is that most of the cats were outdoor cats which provides tons of dangers including traffic, coyotes, etc.

I read this book over, and over, and over, constantly. I love the compilation of stories, each with something new to say than the one before it. I devoured this book when I first got it. I've always been a cat person, and these stories warmed my heart. I have so many favorites that it would be difficult to list them all. My point is, this book is a solid investment for anyone who loves these delicate, graceful, quirky, four-legged heaters. You'll laugh, you'll get a little somber, and you'll love your sassy, crazy cat all the more by the end of it.

The stories in the books caused a mixed emotional reaction. Some stories were sad and other stories were quite funny. After reading the book, I learned about the stages of cats, how to care for them, the adoption process, how to do some cat tricks, saying goodbye in a positive way and recovering from the loss of a cat.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Cat’s Life is a great book especially for those who love cats!

This is a Chicken Soup for the Soul book...so it is hard not to like. The stories were funny, sad and memorable. While reading this book, I did find myself wanting to contact these authors and tell them to: keep their pets inside and spay/neuter them. Kittens are adorable, but there are never enough homes to go around.

I enjoyed this book and found it entertaining, funny, happy and sad. I love reading about all the cute and amazing things cats and kittens do and how they touch lives. I am always sad to read about when a cat's life is almost over. But everyone has the memories of the wonderful time they had with their pets and that is what this book is about.

Gonna try this one but if it makes me cry too much.......

I enjoyed what I read but when it got to the older cats, I *knew* where that was headed and I just had to stop. Really great stories, though, and it was comforting to see that others have had and have loved kitties with anger management issues!

What you will read in this book is a lot of heartwarming stories of cats and their human families, how they make everyone laugh, and even cry.

This is a book for all the cat-persons around, and all the cat-lovers to read, laugh, cry and enjoy.

I loved that it shared stories from having a kitten join your family to saying good bye to an important member of the family. I cried many times throughout as it really made me appreciate the friendship I have with my own cat :)
