Bah. This was not worth the time. The first one by Lora Leigh was super smexy hot. The sex was good. The storyline itself threw me for a loop. I seem to have come in 1/2 way through a series or something. I'm tempted to figure it out but I honestly don't care enough about it. Sheila was an okay female main character. Kind of odd how much she was hurt by her first crush at 19. What person after so many years is still traumatized in this manner? I call it the 1st world issues. *rolls eyes*

Nick on the other hand, what the hell? What kind of woman did he get engaged to who would liquidate his home and clear out his bank account the minute she found out he was shot in the line of duty? First of all, why did she have access to his account? Second of all, how the hell did she end up in his house and selling all his furniture? Third she left him for his best friend? What kind of an asshole did he become friends with? How do people who do this live with themselves? Shameful! But back to the issue at hand, this could have all been avoided if he didn't let her move into his house. It's called living in sin for a reason. I guess I'm old fashion. The storyline was about some kind of revenge thing but honestly, all I got out of it was hot sex and very annoy ex-lovers. Seriously, both Nick and Sheila were taken for a ride and they could have prevented it. Oh, and the other thing I got out of this story? Sheila says she doesn't like to play games but she does. I have no respect for her. Talk like a normal person!

The second story was fine. The sex was meh. The evil villain, Carter, was a waste of air. Keri's originally response to Carter when he hit her was dumb. I guess I'm one of those people who if someone hit me, I'd go physically postal on the person. I wouldn't run my mouth off about all the things I'd do to make sure they get sent to jail. Very dumbass move on her part. Are people really this stupid in real life? I hope not. It annoyed me and I just couldn't enjoy the story as much.

The last one I didn't like. Megan was too stupid to live. Everything about her annoyed me. I felt badly for Ivan yet he was clearly a troubled person who beheaded animals. Cody was just unreal. His response were all fucked up.

Basically, this book is a hot mess of screwed up people who can't get their relationships together because of their "1st world" problems. I'm sure in the real world, they would all have therapist and their issues would be "abandonment" and "mommy/daddy" issues. Yet they all have happily ever afters and find their one true love. *double eye rolling* Ugh. I'm still leaving the rating as a 3 star even though I barely enjoyed the book to give it a 2 star. The writing styles were still decent even if I didn't really enjoy the stories.

Unfortunately, These Stories Are Only Mediocre

LEGALLY HOT is an anthology of three novellas.

SHEILA'S PASSION by Lora Leigh: Sheila Rutledge has been in a sexual relationship with Nick Casey for months. Both Sheila and Casey have been hurt in the past and thus they both don't want to risk their heart. There is a continuing story about a watcher wanting revenge and seeking out the men who work in the intelligence gathering bar to find the watcher's target. I liked the first novella in this series COOPER'S FALL but I found this one a disappointment. The romance was sexy but dependent upon the two characters not talking to one another. Rating: 2.5 stars.

DEADLY DANCE by Cheyanne McCray: Detective Adam Boyd has come to warn Keri Holliday that the man they put away in jail has been released and might seek revenge against Keri. Keri and Adam engage in a sometimes really sweet romance while trying to keep Keri safe. I thought this story started out well, but the actual relationship between Keri and Adam didn't seem to develop and obtain any depth. I didn't feel any deep connection between the characters. Rating: 2.5 stars.

CAUGHT by Red Carnier: Cody Nordstrom and Megan Banks knew each other as teenagers and were just starting a romance when they came to Cody's home to discover that Cody's twin brother had murdered their parents. The murder tore the two of them apart. Thirteen years later, Cody is a homicide detective who is still haunted by his twin's actions. He is afraid that the monster inside his brother is in him as well. Megan has loved Cody for years and is determined to move their relationship to a new level. At the same time, the past comes back to haunt them both. The setup for this story was amazing: a angst filled story with a tortured hero. The ultimate resolution didn't work as well for me as the beginning. I thought the story could have been better explored in a longer novel because the resolution was too abrupt and didn't deliver on the promise of the setup. Rating: 3.5 stars.

Reviewing an anthology is tricky because there are multiple stories, by multiple authors.
Overall the anthology was alright, none of the novellas sucked but neither did any shine.

Sheila's Passion by Lora Leigh is the first story in the anthology.
This is the second in Lora Leigh's Wounded Warriors series. You don't miss anything if you haven't read the first which is a novella in Real Men Last All Night (Lexi Steele, #1.5). Sheila is in love with Nick Casey and because he doesn't drop to his knees in proposal she dumps him and avoids him. She's also wary because an ex used her for access to her father so he could get a promotion. She doesn't get that she's lovable.
There's also some thing where some guy wants to kill a guy for not taking of the inherited mafia and suspects Nick of being that guy (He's not - or he's fundamentally changed his personality) and the ex turns out to have been stalking Sheila.

All the other elements (Nick's past and he does think about "who he used to be", the ex coming out of nowhere and the mafia thing) are extraneous and detract from the story.
However the actual romance between Nick and Sheila is nice, very Lora Leigh style all super macho posturing and female irrationalness. It's still good but probably the weakest offering in the anthology.

Deadly Dance by Cheyenne McCray is the second story in the anthology.
Detective Adam Boyd is upset to discover Edward Carter, man that killed his partner is getting of jail because of a technicality. He uses a PI friend to track down Keri Holliday, the main witness who put Carter in jail to warn her. Because he used the PI he finds Keri days earlier than expected and is able to rescue her from a hit later that night. Keri lost her ballet career when Carter took out her knee. Carter is out to get both Adam and Keri and because they have gone out. Adam hides Keri away until Carter fakes to be moving to Miami. Even then he only flukes onto getting Keri - as opposed to her grabbing the TSTL ball.

I have read some Cheyenne McCray before and didn't like it so this pleasantly surprised me in being what I consider the best story in the anthology. The love story was surprisingly well developed for such a short offering, and this sometimes does suffer for lack of length in short stories. Also the villain wasn't one-dimensional or ridiculous.

Caught by Red Garnier is the third story in the anthology.
Cole's twin brother Ivan was a sociopath who brutally murdered their parents when he was sixteen. He then became a homicide cop and became single-mindedly focused on justice. Also on never ever allowing the "monster" within him to 'sully' Megan. Megan is in love with Cole and has been for years so, on the prompting of her friend and Cole's partner's wife, she dresses in lingerie and lies in wait for Cole to come home.
Unfortunately Ivan is there to steal Cole's clothes and he wanted Megan too when they were sixteen and he ties her to the bed and write his name all over her body in marker. Eventually Cole succumbs to Megan and they confess their love and Cole meets up with Ivan in the woods after Megan is kidnapped (because of a not-so-brilliant move on her part).

I have read a novella of Garnier's before which I liked and so I looked forward to this entry. I am a little sick of the heroes being all noble and unable to sully the women they love because a family member is evil so therefore they must be evil as well for not acting to stop it; that annoyed me specially because in a novella the only way to play that is to do it the same way everyone else does. Also Cole's not just a super-hot cop, he's mega rich, it didn't even apply to the story other than a throw away comment and so it just pulled me out and annoyed me.
I should say that this would probably be a great story as a full-length novel.

I picked this book up because I am a big fan of Lora Leigh's Breeds series and I have read and liked
Cheyenne McCray's stories as well. To my surprise the best tale was by a new author for me Red Garnier! The other stories were too light on details and felt centered on sex. “Caught” by Red Garnier had what I was looking for. Great storyline and characters. I had fun reading it.

I usually never enjoy anthologies, so why do I insist on reading them??? This one was mediocre at best. I've read Lore Leigh and Cheyenne McCray books in the past & have loved some and hated some. I've never read anything by Red Garnier and I probably won't again. That story was the worst of the three, in my opinion. It could have been GREAT because I liked the hero a lot and the plot was good... but the writing left a lot to be desired, and I didn't like Meg as the heroine at all.

The Lora Leigh story needed some serious editing. At one point the heroine's father says she needs to be somewhere by 9pm. Two paragraphs later she says, "I'd better go if I'm going to be there by 10pm". Also, in the next scene with the hero, Leigh describes his wardrobe and he's wearing a short sleeve denim shirt. One page later she is crying and her tears fall onto his "thin white dress shirt". Seriously. How does an author (and editor?) get away with that? You're telling me NOBODY who read this book before it went to print caught that?

"Deadly Dance" by Cheyenne McCray was probably my favorite of the three, but that's not saying much.

Shelia's Passion by Lora Leigh -- I am going to force myself to read this story, because it is fairly short (137 pgs) - but, on page 27 and I am so very annoyed. I think this story would have likely been half the length had someone told the author to stop repeating herself. Over and over she says the same thing with different words, sometimes in the same paragraph. OKAY we get it! And the heroine, Shelia already has me hating her, and thinking she is an idiot. I continued skimming this story and finally finished. Still less than impressed.

Deadly Dance by Cheyenne McCray -- my favorite of the three. Keri and Adam have some issues, but they seemed plausible and real. The suspense was okay, a little over done.

Caught by Red Garnier -- The "evil" twin idea is a cliche now, but that didn't make this story bad. In fact, it was okay. I liked how they developed Megan, as she got a back bone and decided FINALLY to go for what she wanted.

Overall this little anthology was not impressive. My favorite story was still only just good. Nothing great about this set of stories.

This was more like 2.5 stars.... I picked this book up because of the synopsis on theback, and I have to say that I was vastly disappointed. Whoever wrote that clearly mislead the potential readers...

Sheila's Passion, was not as described. First the prologue and "sub-plot" was so confusing... That seemed like it was more for a full length book. Also I never see where they were "best friends". Now I will admit that the sex was hot. Not as hot as Ms. Leigh can be, but still hot. But in essence, Sheila was acting like an immature teenager and I really wanted her to just grow-up...

Deadly Dance.. sweet story. Had a little better plot and a stronger heroine. This was about the only one that lived up to it's synopsis. I liked it and which is why I gave this book 2.5 stars..

Caught... Definitely NOT as described. BUT it was still pretty good. I liked the suspense and the chemistry between the two characters. This had the potential to make a great novel.

All in all, an okay anthology. NOT a keeper though...

Lora Leigh 3.25/3.75
Red Garnier 3.75/3.25
Cheyenne McCray 3.25/3.25

I enjoyed Red Garnier's story the most. Though Lora Leigh's story was definitely hot, I thought the characters were a bit confusing.

Three short stories which involve men in uniform, sort of.

The Series
"Sheila's Passion (Wounded Warriors, 2)

The Stories
Lora Leigh's "Sheila's Passion" is interesting, but Leigh needs to come up with a better premise for the driving purpose behind this. Her bad guy is chasing down someone he sees as betraying the family "trust", an Italian mob family's responsibilities to those under them. Gio "betrayed" all who relied upon him by loving his daughter and protecting that love. Now, the son whom Gio taught about love has escaped the Family. Disguised himself. So the bad guy is hunting for Beauregard and hurting, torturing, killing anyone close to any man he suspects might be Beau. It's his excuse. I ain't buyin' it.

So, this particular storyline has the bad guy focused on Shelia Rutledge and Nick Casey. Shelia's father Captain Douglas Rutledge is in charge of an intelligence post. One of the groups which gather intel is headquartered in/at Ethan Cooper's bar where Nick works as a bouncer where Sheila picks up the intel and how she met Nick. Both Nick and Sheila have their particular aversion to getting romantically involved so there's the usual give-and-take until a crisis forces them to acknowledge it. The romance in this is good, typical Lora Leigh; it's the underlying premise that really drags this down.

Cheyenne McCray's "Deadly Dance" is cute with the very protective Detective Adam Boyd, NYPD, falling in love with a witness who is threatened by the release from jail of her attacker. Keri Holliday was on the verge of a breakthrough in her ballet career when her boyfriend Edward Carter "objected" to her dumping him. Well, the twit did make the mistake of threatening to take her evidence about him to the police… It's a nice, sweet story but no great drama.

Red Garnier's "Caught" is a clash between twin brothers, one of whom is a sociopath who kills their parents. The other goes on to a career in law enforcement determined to make up for his twin as well as what he sees as his own failures. It's years later that Cody Nordstrom encounters Megan again. The same Megan over whom he and Ivan clashed. The same Megan he doesn't feel worthy of. The same woman who loves Cody and, this time, won't take no for an answer. This is the best of the three IMO even though I'm getting really tired of the "poor me" routine.

The Cover and Title
The cover is yellow, blue, and hot pink: the authors, the background, and the title, respectively. A man in trousers is facing away with his left hand behind his back clasping a set of handcuffs.

The title…hmmm…yes, it's about men in uniform and I'd say it was more lukewarm than hot.

Sheila’s Passion by Lora Leigh
Nick Casey and Sheila Rutledge – he’s working undercover for her father… they hook up when she picks up or delivers the data chips… but he’s made it clear no commitment… but when she starts to withdraw… and then when she is threatened, he realizes the depths of his feelings for her… very passionate scenes…

Deadly Dance by Cheyenne McCray
Keri Holliday and Detective Adam Boyd, NYPD -Angel of New York… the ex-boyfriend, charming, drug dealer got out of jail after 5 years… and Adam (whose partner had been killed by same) goes to warn her…. She is an ex-ballerina (ex broke her knees in a fit of anger) and she teaches ballet – and is content… they go to dinner, have a nice time… he takes her home, as driving away, sees a suspicious car, returns and foils an assassin… and then he appoints himself her protector… after a couple of weeks of no attacks, and it appears the guy is moving out of the country, they drop their guard… she is kidnapped, but has a student’s phone, so is able to call for help… Adam gets to Keri just in time, as ex is going to rape and then kill her… he’s gone…. They have each other…

Caught by Red Garnier
Cody Nordstrom, Megan Banks, Cody’s psychotic twin Ivan…
Cody was the one the parents were proud of… Ivan not so much – and they didn’t know of the things his brother hid from them – like cutting off squirrel’s heads; at 16 both wanted next door neighbor Megan… and Cody boasted that she was going walking in the woods with him that afternoon… and goaded by his brother, the brother’s bet $10 which one would get into her pants first… and Cody & Megan had a spat, returned to his house… where they found his brother standing over their dead parents, holding the knife – and blaming Cody…
Ivan ran off; Cody went to live with an uncle, and he always felt responsible for his brother… he became a homicide cop, visited his parent’s graves annually, tracked his brother and put him in jail… and ultimately returned home… where he watches over Megan, befriends Megan, but won’t let her get closer to him…

And 7 years later, Megan has had enough… she decides to greet him from his bed in her sexy underwear… but unfortunately, Ivan broke out of jail (dressed like brother), and is hiding in his closet… and he chloraforms her, ties her up, and writes his name across her belly… and Cody and Megan stick together… and finally end up having sex… and ultimately trap brother, and all ends well…
“Can’t you see why Cody’s always protective toward you – he wants you. In some part of his labyrinth of a mind, he thinks you’re his. But if the guy has some hang-ups about not being good enough for you, then you’re going to have to show him you don’t care!”

This was a great anthology of short stories, which I generally do not enjoy, but all three of these stories were put together well with a nice solid plot and enough character development that they didn't feel so short. I wasn't sure what to expect from the other two authors since I've only read Lora Leigh, but I was pleasantly surprised. All three stories get four stars from me. "Sheila's Passion" is just about what you would expect from Lora Leigh...totally hot, intense from start to finish, chock full of emotions, and keeps you turning the pages. I do hope that this one continues into a series, as I found the dynamic with the group to be very interesting and there was an unfinished tail at the end. "Deadly Dance", I really enjoyed. Adam Boyd is so freaking sweet it's amazing...but yet hot at the same time. This one was rather vanilla compared to "Sheila's Passion"...I would have liked to see a little bit more of him pleasing her in the boudoir, but she didn't seem to mind, and the plot was good with enough explanation that you knew exactly what was going on. Good character development, although we don't get any clarification on what happened between him and Nyx. "Caught" has an amazing story between two twins, one of which is a sociopath and kills their parents, and all the twin-switching was a little hard to follow, but overall it was a nice easy read. I probably enjoyed it the least out of the three as it was hard to follow at the end, but it had quite a bit of suspense in it and Cody and Megan had a lot of chemistry between them that was undeniable. Very enjoyable book over all, hot sex scenes and the guys pull no douchebaggery, so it's a win-win.

Sheila's Passion by Lora Leigh- This has all the trappings of what you expect from Lora Leigh. The first 5 pages are a vividly described intense sexual scene. It ends in some high school type drama and proceeds from there. There were pages where I was on board with the hero and others where I was on board with Sheila but mostly nothing really stuck out as original. I gave it an OK rating but I don't feel more stars are warranted because its much like any other LL you may have already read.

Deadly Dance by Cheyenne McCray- This was a VERY sweet romance. Despite the length it was never rushed and though there were a few time jumps it wasn't disrupting. I liked how the romance progressed smoothing and slowly and the story felt whole.

Caught by Red Gardnier- I don't know how I feel about this one. I kept reading to see what would happen but really didn't feel rewarded. The whole story is pretty dark and disturbing. Meghan came off as a little clingy and desperate and Cody was the typical "I'm ruining my own life and your for your own good" guy. It got on my nerves. The back story was pretty gruesome but definitely has potential I just feel like, in my opinion, it petered out rather than really exploding.

My favorite of these was the Leigh story. Right away you could tell that there was chemistry between these 2. I found myself agreeing with Shelia, that she felt she had to retreat otherwise risk her heart getting broken. It did seem like they were just friends with benefits and she needed more. So I was happy to see when Casey decided to declare his claim, but that only made it more confusing as they each brought baggage along that colored the way they thought. You just knew it would take what it did for each of them to smarten up.

I started reading the McCray story, got about half way through and found myself bored to tears. The romance was so pg, especially after the Leigh story, and I had a hard time buying into it, so I gave it up.

I am on the fence with the Garnier story. I liked the aspect of the twins, one good, one evil, but had a hard time buying into Cody being that dense about Megan's feelings.

1st story - "Sheila's Passion" by Lora Leigh. I was not impressed with this one. The suspense did not seem realistic or hold my interest. The steamy bits were okay, but I like a little plot with the sex.

2nd story - "Deadly Dance" by Cheyenne McCray - was a definite improvement. This story revolves around Keri, a former ballerina who is now being pursued by the man she helped send to prison 7 years earlier. Adam is the cop that is trying to keep her safe and falls for her. Much better plot and tension.

3rd story - "Caught" by Red Garnier - was middling between the other two in this anthology. Some of the action just strained belief. The suspense just wasn't there for me. I did enjoy the characters of Cody and Megan, but felt that the author did not do them justice.

The Best Book of the anthology was Lora Leigh's Sheila's Passion. It was so hot it was smoking. Nick and Sheila's story was more developed probably because the story line carries over from Lora Leigh's previous books. As well as, addressed that age old question of 'If the sex is so great, why wont he say I Love You?' The other books in the anthology weren't bad but after Lora's opener the rest just kind of fell flat.

I gave 5 stars of the sex scenes alone in Sheila's Passion. Lora Leigh did it again. I want to be Sheila and experience what she is enjoying. To be honest the story lacked depth and shouldn't be read alone. It was missing something, like the other parts that make a whole. Maybe when you get everyone's story all together it would be better. At the end I felt like I was left hanging!!!!! The other two stories fell short all together.

Picked up this book for Lora Leigh's story "Sheila's Passion" but enjoyed the other two stories too! Lora's story is the 2nd in her "Wounded Solider" and I really liked it. Cheyenne McCray's story "Deadly Dance" was as good as all her stuff is. Red Garnier's "Caught" was pretty good but you really need to take your time with the ending, otherwise you will miss stuff!! I know I did and had to reread it to "Caught" it! Oh look I made a funny!!! ;-)

This book has three stories: Sheila's Passion by Lora Leigh; Deadly Dance by Cheyenne McCray; and Caught by Red Garnier.

I would rate these stories between a three and a four.
I'ver read quite a bit of Lora Leigh but found her story to be my least favorite in this collection. The other two authors are new to me and I really liked their stories. I'll definitely check out their other work.

I enjoyed reading 'Deadly Chance' & 'Caught' (even though they were both predictable). I wouldn't get into 'Sheila's Passion' so just skipped ahead.

I'm going to say 'Deadly Chance' was my favorite. He tries to play knight in shining armor and she fights back instead of curling in the fetal position and crying. Wish it was longer!

The first story was a little confusing, I suppose I should have realized there was a series that I had never read before, to go along with that story. :) But Lora Leigh made up for it, that first chapter was like wow! The other two stories were alright. I should probably stop reading anthologies before I read the series.

I never thought I would give any book that included a story by Lora Leigh only two stars, and I was being generous at that, I feel. This one just does not have a lot going for it and I recommend that you be smarter than I was and not waste your time. There is certainly better writing by Leigh and McCray out there and who is this Garnier person anyway?

And two stars is generous.

Lora Leigh is still recycling the same dialog in her books.

Red Garnier wrote one of the stupidest female characters I've ever read, and I've read some doozies.

Cheyenne McCray's was the only remotely interesting story and, wonder of wonders, she didn't throw in her standard heroine with big boobs who could lick her own nipples.

This also has a short story from Cheyenne McCray's Night Tracker series, which is not recorded in Goodreads library section. However, all of these stories are good, and I enjoyed these three shorts by each of the authors, two from on going series.

Admittedly it's been quite awhile since I read Cooper's story, but I still felt like I was missing more than half the picture in Leigh's story. Surprisingly, McCray's was my favorite in this anthology, making me want to get back to her Night Tracker series soon.

Normally I like this kind of anthology for my popcorn reading, and I've liked a lot of Lora Leigh's books in the past, but I only got maybe 8 pages into the Leigh story, two pages into the Red story, and was so bored I didn't even give the Cheyenne story a try. So glad I got this from the library
