After a three year search for a serial killer known as The Prophet, FBI agents Sean Sebastian and Rheta Morgan; both who have a personal reason to stop him, finally get a break and The Prophet is within their reach. Confrontation leads them to discover a secret network called the New Brotherhood and the more they find out about the New Brotherhood, the more determined they are to stop it.
When The Prophet takes Rheta and Sean's sister hostage, the race is on to free them and bring down the Brotherhood.
I live in a small town in Wisconsin. From my deck, I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Buddy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.
I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories, I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
The author takes us on a page turning thriller. Investigation into the trials and tribulations of the FBI as they try and not only locate but also apprehend a serial killer only known as The Prophet.
The Prophet holds meetings in secluded areas and picks a chosen one, the chosen one is always found dead. He cons his followers into giving him money and then absconds leaving no trace.
The two FBI agents who are pursuing him both have hidden agenda's in capturing him. Rheta's reason is that he killed her sister three years ago, but Sean's reason is hidden and only comes to light when Rheta has doubts about him. They get a tip off and this information leads onto a trail of destruction, death and corruption. The Prophet has declared war on Rheta and Sean for their meddling, can he destroy them before they destroy him?
The characters portrayed are vividly described and the emotion the reader feels in wanting the killer to be caught and brought to justice is first class. The storyline is easily followed and text is pleasing to the eye, the chapters are broken down into small passages giving the reader time to digest and taken on board what has happened, which I really liked.
This novel was right up my street, a good thriller with a great storyline based around a few characters, thus making the plot uncomplicated. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers

This is the first novel I've read from KJ Dahlen and the first thriller/mystery I've read for 2012. It's also the first book for the blog I'm a book host as. Exciting!
Anyways, this was a pretty good book. I really enjoy thrillers and this held up to my expectations! I was at the edge of my seat the entire time I turned the page. KJ Dahlen did an amazing job with setting up the story and giving out particular information at the right moment. Every time I thought I had the ending figured out, she would throw another loop into the story. I felt just as desperate as Rheta and her partner to get a grasp on this "prophet" and have a happy ending.
Credit must be given to KJ Dahlen for taking a huge risk in the story. At some points she would switch the POV to the psycho, aka the Prophet. A lot of authors just keep the POV in the good guys' court, because it's safer and less of a challenge. However, KJ Dahlen took on this challenge and I believe she did a great job! I was actually interested to see what was going through this guy's head. I'll admit it...I was more interested in his POV at times. Yes, he was completely off his rocker and a cold-hearted son of bitch (excuse my french), but he was interesting. KJ Dahlen, I applaud you.
Okay...I'm an honest person, so I'll be blunt. Sometimes I winced when I was reading, because there were a few grammatical errors that I couldn't look past. I'm an English minor and the more classes I take in writing, the more I notice these things. Usually, I can just ignore them and continue on. Not in this case. Sometimes I had to read the sentence a couple times, so my brain could make sense on what was going on. I try not to point these grammar issues out in my reviews, because I'm not the best at grammar, but...I couldn't just ignore these. I hope that next time she has someone proof-read her rough draft beforehand. That's all I ask.
I had a love-hate with the ending. My mind was blown away by how everything went down at the end! However, I also felt it was sort of anti-climatic and not how I would've ended it. Maybe I would have, but a little differently. I felt like it just...ended. There was a whole bunch of drama and action and excitement that my mind couldn't read fast enough for me, but then after some words and whatever it just...ended. I also felt like there was a huge cliff-hanger, which I love and hate equally. I love when the author leaves you wanting more, but you're not 100% sure there will be more.
Overall, I really liked this book. It was entertaining. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It had me wanting to read more from the author. I believe that Ever After Pr and I will be reading another book by this author. However, I'm not sure if we are and if we are, I'm not positive it'll be a "sequel" for The Prophet: The New Brotherhood. I hope so! Even though I think the author needs to have grammar check, I think she's a wonderful author and this was a good book. Out of five stars I grant this one 4 stars. In all reality, it would be 4.4, but I rounded.
Favorite Character(s): Sean/Michael (Rheta's partner) and oddly the Prophet (I just thought his view point was interesting and out of the norm) Not-so Favorite Character(s): The Prophet (cold-hearted killer)
Two FBI agents are assisted by the local police and are hot on the trail of a grifter/serial killer who calls himself The Prophet. As they investigate further, they find that there is a lot more going on than meets the eye.
This book has a great storyline, with several unanticipated twists. I can't help but feel that this needs to be thrown back into the oven because it's not quite done yet. With a little more research and development this could be a high caliber story.
The FBI agents are the heroes of the story, so I assume they aren't supposed to be incompetent. Yet they make glaring errors in police procedures that even the most casual viewer of CSI or Law & Order would catch.
I know that I am overly critical of editing errors in my reviews. It is my pet peeve that when I'm reading along and I hit a word in a sentence that just obviously does not belong there. It's like hitting a brick wall while driving 60 miles per hour, and my Kindle is not equipped with an air bag. There were a couple of occasions where I couldn't even tell from the context of the sentence what word had been intended. My grammar is not perfect, so I don't often nit pick about it, but there were a few instances of poor grammar that even I noticed.
Overall I would have to say this book was very disappointing because the story itself has such huge potential. I would strongly urge the author to consider firing the editor that did her such a great disservice, have it re-edited, and publish the great novel that this plot aspires to be.
The author presents us with a psychopath, who kills women, just because he can. He calls himself as "The Prophet", moves around countries, charms the population with his talented speech, robs them of all money, kills an innocent woman and leaves for next place to continue the process.
The FBI agents, Rheta and Michael is on his trail, trying to stop him. Rheta's sister and Michael's fiancee are also in the list of victims, killed by the Prophet. While on his trail, they both are faced with Prophet's smart escapades and misses him several times. Soon, there are various twists, surprises and shocks, and then the FBI agents find themselves with him face to face.
The thrill of the novel has been kept from beginning to end. The novel was realistic and enjoyable. The need to catch the Prophet is felt more by the readers, as much as the FBI agents.
The Prophet is a book that grabs you right away and does not let go until the conclusion. A book filled with suspense and action. Elijah is a man that is pure evil, who has murdered many people and does not care at all for anything except the power he has over his victims and followers. He will do whatever it takes to achieve these goals. FBI agent Rheta's sister was a victim of Elihah's evil. She has searched for three years, so with her partner Sean, who has secrets of his own, they search the midwest for Elijah and his followers. The setting for this book caught my attention as I also live in Wisconsin and some of the story took place there and other familiar places. The authors descriptions of these areas is spot on. When she mentioned the town I live in, I had to go and make sure my doors were locked. I enjoyed this novel and recommend it to anyone who loves a good murder mystery.
I loved this book from start to finish. The story is action packed and fast paced. It keeps you on the edge of your seat.
There are a lot of twists and turns. There are a few you figure out and then just as you do the author surprises you and there is a twist and turn you didn't see.
This one of those books you have to force yourself to slow down to read. You are so anxious to see how it ends you want to skip parts.
