I really like the way Mike Newman writes. He illustrates his points with both personal experience and plenty of scripture to encourage the reader who has been struggling and is hoping to do it well. I appreciate his intent to honor God and be biblically based. That being said I think the book falls a little short. Like some Christian counseling I've experienced it attempts to apply scriptures like band aids instead of using the whole Gospel to cure the problem. I'd recommend a series of sermons I've heard recently that I thought did a better job of equipping the Christian to Struggle Well. They were titled "Staying the Course When You're Tired of the Battle" from 2 Thessalonians and they can be accessed at this website www.unlockingthebible.com.
