The Scoutmaster Handbook is a guide for leaders explaining how to involve ;boys in the excitement of the Scouting program and how to operate a successful troop using the patrol method.
Possibly the driest, dullest book I've read all year, but it does help a Scoutmaster to better understand the program. I would recommend it to Scoutmasters, but it is slow going.
Lots of good information here; I just wish I could access it better. I'm glad I read it cover to cover, because now I know that I can find many answers here. But, subjects are referenced so many times during the manual that it is difficult to find definitive information. Still, a good reference for Scout leaders
It really gives a good idea of what a scoutmaster is supposed to do. I wish they had an up to date edition of this. I am not even sure what modern reference I am supposed to use as a scoutmaster. I am glad I can at least use this as a starting point though.
I really enjoyed the Scoutmaster Handook as a ready reference for Scout Leaders at any stage of troop leadership. An outstanding volume with a lot of great resources and insights.
Leadership is a key part of Scouting. Finding help, resources, ideas and more is a key part of making the Scouting program work. This volume is a good start to finding the answers.
Scoutmasters, is you want the best tips and tricks for leading meetings, training youth leaders, and leading activities that will make the boys in your troop better prepared for the game of life, this is the book for you. It gives you the latest on how to access council and district resources, help youth leaders plan and run meetings, and loads more.
You can reinvent the wheel or just read the manual. As a new Scoutmaster this is an invaluable resource. I encourage all new scouting leaders not just scoutmasters to read this or the new Troop Leader Handbook.
