New Yorker Cory Gales does not want to spend her summer in England--especially with the perfect Zoe Mitchell. Shortly after Cory's arrival at picturesque Rose Far, she realizes that Zoe has extrasensory powers, and finds herself propelled into the path of a hundred-year-old mystery.
Although this started out a bit slow, I enjoyed this book a lot. It takes place in England, one of my favorite places, and had a bit of paranormal in it- the believable kind. Zoe, a lonely British girl who has no friends and a strict stern grandmother, has a "gift". She can see people and events that happened long ago. She is very frightened by this gift and has told no one. Enter Cornelia "Cory", an 11 year-old kid from Manhattan whose parents visit Cornelia's grandmother and off they go to the site of an archaeology dig leaving Cory and Zoe behind. At first Cory doesn't like Zoe but then she sees her for what she is- a lonely frightened girl. As for Zoe, she has never had a friend before and she tries to be a normal girl. But Zoe's gift is trying to right an old wrong. The end of the story is very satisfying. I did want the girls to go on the dig, though.
