Under Wraps is book three in the Lose Yourself series by Joanne Rock. I read this book as part of the Undercover Festivities anthology. I won it in a give-a-way package.

Marnie Wainwright’s ex-boyfriend broke up with her on Facebook of all places. And, she was fired from her job in a prestigious travel agency. So Marnie has decided to make one of her dreams come true and she started her own travel agency, Lose Yourself.

Jake Brennan is an ex-cop turned private investigator. He was hired by the travel agency Marnie used to work for to investigate two point five million dollars in missing money. All leads point to Marnie so Jake, posing as a carpenter she hired to build some new shelves in her new business, installed a camera to keep track of her business dealings. Now, two months later, Jake is convinced that Marnie is innocent and someone is trying very hard to frame her. In the two months he has been watching her, he has developed an interest in her outside of work. So now that she is no longer a suspect in the case he is working on, he has other hopes where Marnie is concerned. But before he can pursue his plans, Marnie discovers the camera and his plans take a different path.

corset:

Jake and Marnie put their heads together and figure out that the clues in trying to pinpoint who is responsible for trying to frame Marnie and embezzling the funds leads to an exclusive resort that caters to the sexually adventurous types. So, posing as a couple, they head north to the Marquis. This club is crazy. The clients are required to dress the parts, the women wearing sexy corsets and gowns and the men in period dress as well. Role play is encouraged.

snowmobile in the woods:

With sexual innuendo at every turn, not to mention the already present chemistry between Jake and Marnie, it’s hard for them to keep their hands off each other. But it also doesn’t take long for real feelings to become involved. They each see something in the other that they have been missing.

“She wanted him then for reasons she hadn’t fully understood. She wanted him more now, even knowing he could stride out of her life without a backward glance once they returned to Miami.”

Life is Beautiful http://all-things-bright-and-beyootiful.tumblr.com/

With a blinding snowstorm and danger lurking at every turn, this was a crazy, wild ride. These two were sizzling hot together. One other thing that I enjoyed is that we sort of got a secondary story line. Two other people at the Marquis, Lianna and Rico, each for reasons of their own, become involved in the case and intertwined in the story. But the developing relationship to each other becomes it’s own little sub-story.

ice skating:

This was a sexy, fast paced, suspenseful, chemistry laden story and I really did enjoy it. The characters were all wonderfully easy to love and the plot was really unique. I’ve read a few of Joanne Rock’s books now and I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed each and every one.

2.5 actually.

'Tis the tale of dumb and dumber, oh and dumber still...maybe a few even dumber than that.

Our h, let go from a...travel agency or resort chain, unsure on that and not about to look it up, due to suspicions of embezzlement, does what anyone would do - she opens her own travel agency, living in the back of the shop, half undressing after-hours and prancing around the shop (blinds down, but still) And somehow, even though douchebag ex supposedly lost her savings in bad investments, is able to afford flying anywhere, and hiring someone to build her a custom bookshelf (because apparently Ikea was beneath her, never mind wallyworld). She finds one night, a camera built IN to the bookshelf. Of course she knows whodunnit. Of course the idiot shows up a few minutes later, ostensibly to remove the camera and also to attempt a date? Hookup? Probably the latter. Nearly getting hit in the eye with a dart disabused him of the notion - temporarily.

Our H, PI (who really couldn't find his arse with both hands), is the spy. Somehow, he cons her into booking them a trip to a resort which is actually a glorified sex club, owned by the company that let her go - to investigate. Right. While there they run into...a woman who always seems to be hanging around, and a set of twins who also always seem to be hanging around.

The woman, lady lawyer whose marriage broke up after she, her husband, and another couple did a swinging event at said resort the year before, is waiting on - are you ready for this? Douchebag. Not that she says as much. But douchebag has asked her to keep an eye out for new arrivals and let him know. Of course she tells him. And waits for his arrival before giving up and flirting heavily with one of the twins.

The twins - both cops, one undercover, one partying - are there looking for the same person.

The H finds evidence about the lady lawyer, decides they're all in danger, grabs the two women, and runs. One of the twins - the one lawyer has been flirting with - comes after them, eventually catching up. They relocate to a bed and breakfast. Both females feel the urge to phone home (or email as the case may be). Douchebag, as it turns out, is hiding in bed and breakfast. Grabs h. H and twin take off after her, getting word at some point from other twin that douche and accomplices are meeting. They conveniently manage to spoil his dastardly plans.

Thoughts - no way in hell would I have opened the door and let the guy in, knowing he hid a camera in the bookcase. Of course, I wouldn't have been wandering around the front of the shop in any state other than fully dressed either. And...the cops would have been called when I found the camera. So the whole trip to a sex club wouldn't have happened. Wouldn't have anyway though - I'd rather take my chances (or knock the idiot out, lock him in a bathroom, and do my own investigating).

Having gotten stuck in the situation... No telling where you're from. No using an alias so close to your own name. Yeah; for an actual visit to the hotel for adventure. NOT while investigating someone. And I'm good with no touchy. Doofi spent at least half their time their fantasizing about getting in each other's pants.

It never occurred to any of these geniuses to check nearby lodging for him either, otherwise they'd have known where he was.

It was sheer luck he was caught, mostly because a) the twin undercover picked up on the meeting and got one of his goons, and also because, conveniently, the b&b happened to have a couple of snowmobiles.

Interesting how much I loved this one as one of her historical romances I dragged my feet through- usually I like that type better than modern day. In this case, I like her modern day tale WAY more.
