She is passionate about holistic parenting which she believes requires constantly sourcing knowledge on how to nurture her children’s health and well-being. Strengthening their life force physically, emotionally and spiritually. Jennifer does not believe this style of parenting happens by default but rather that it requires both commitment and stamina. Her two recent books include “Ticklish – New Ways to Help Your Child Learn, Love and Play” and “Lunchbox Solutions” a digital book written with Therese Kerr and Chef Kate Mc Aloon. There are days where we all can feel squeezed by life (and our little companions) and Jennifer can see great value in establishing a safe environment for parents to make connections with other families. This reminds us all, that we are only human after all, that we are not infact “superheroes” and that community spirit is alive and well. Together as parents this enables us to raise a generation of conscientious and empowered young individuals. As a chiropractor married to a chiropractor, Jennifer and her husband run a large award-winning Allied Health Centre incorporating a wide range of practitioners who work collaboratively for the benefit of families.
Borrowed from my chiropractor and found it very interesting. Covers all parts of parenting from pre conception to past 3 years old. I enjoyed reading her birth stories and case studies presented.
I was leant this book to read by my chiropractor. Now I am very much into health and wellness, and I do like to take a science/evidenced based approach to things so I thought I would really get a lot out of the book given the huge amount of studies referenced in the back. BUT...
I just couldn’t get past this author’s idea on the way things should be done being the main message, rather than the research. Now the book is several years old, so some of the research is quite outdated! At least one study referred to has been archived, and some of the other studies have such small sample sizes they are not at all reliable sources of information. Yet there is so much information presented, it’s hard to know if it’s a quality study being referred to or not.
At times I felt like the author was saying “do this” or “don’t do this” without any explanation as to why. And of course being written by a chiropractor it consistently refers to why you should see a chiropractor throughout the whole book, with small case studies where such care was effective for a particular ailment.
In short, I would take the recommendations with a huge pinch of salt and do some further reading and research before making any major decisions.
For me, it wasn’t worth the read. But I felt obliged which is why I persisted with it.
This book holds a very special place for me. I was gifted The Well Adjusted Baby 13 years ago when my oldest was a baby, and it became the beginning of a much deeper awareness for me as a parent. At the time, it offered not only information, but validation and reassurance around the choices we were intuitively making.
The guidance in this book helped us feel more confident and grounded in our approach to parenting, and it went on to influence the decisions we made for all of our children thereafter. It encouraged trust in the parent child bond and emphasized responsiveness, connection, and emotional security in a way that felt supportive rather than rigid.
Beyond the personal impact, the book is very informative and accessible, offering practical insights while also helping parents feel less alone in their instincts. For anyone looking for reassurance, education, and a more connected approach to early parenting, this is a meaningful and supportive read.
Mainly just skimmed this one...borrowed it from my chiropractor. But had some really good stuff in it about anything and everything dealing with babies.
