This book picks up where the first book leaves off. While this is 'sci-fi' it has a variety of elements from other genres to where anyone can listen to it and enjoy which is great for someone like me who has a hard time getting through sci-fi books. Caitlin Diggs is a really strong female character this is easily likeable. This author gave a well written story that kept me wanting to know what happens next.
I didn't like this narrator as well as in the first book, but I thought they still gave a great performance. I would have liked the performance much more if the narrator between the first book and this book had been the same. Once you start a character with one voice, it is hard to readjust with a new narrator; this is nothing against the narrator, just a personal preference for the narrator to stay consistent throughout a series.
I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
I found this to be a really good follow up to book 1.Caitlin is back and trying to stop Crowley and Black Magic from ending the world 'as we know it'.They just want it to be for them, not regular people. David Reimer was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
Not really my cup of coffee genre wise, but it was pretty solid. Very well written, which is a huge plus for me, and intriguing, for the most part ... albeit contextually impractical in some parts.
FBI agent Caitlin Diggs is an intriguing mix of paranormal investigator and analytic follower of clues in Gary Sarta’s Extreme Liquidation. Aided by a pleasingly enigmatic cat, a former ally on the force, and her partner at the agency, Deondra, she finds herself investigating crimes that might suddenly seem a lot too personal.
Lots of backstory and thoughtful character analysis—appropriate in an investigator I suppose—brings readers up to speed on earlier events and relationships, leaving them ready to learn more (especially about the cat). Meanwhile nicely changing viewpoints offer a chance to see what’s behind the scenes (again, especially with the cat—I love the chapter told from the cat's point of view).
When Caitlin’s visions start, the story simultaneously speeds up and slows down, allowing space for intriguing self-analysis, and lots of suspicion of evil in high places. Meanwhile evil from an ancient place stalks the protagonist, casting doubt on everything she knows, and suspicion on friends and foes.
A “red thread of destiny” offers protection, while a mysterious robe brings threat. Long passages of complex introspection offer a way through both deceits. And a slightly odd mathematics “weaves ethereal and material dimensions together.” Some strange word-choices combined with careful self-analysis to slow the story down. But fast action speed it up again, while hints of Stargate’s ancients blend with higher consciousness and “fourth dimensional” ascent, and the fate of the world might hang on the distinction between vision and dream.
Extreme Liquidation was a slower read than I expected, but it blends great characters with lots of intriguing ideas, and it tells a nicely complete story, making it a good introduction to the author’s Caitlin Diggs series.
Disclosure: I met the author online and was pleased to find a free ecopy of this book.
Extreme Liquidation by Gary Starta A Caitlin Diggs Novel 5 Stars
Reviewed at author’s request, of an e-book copy received from the author.
I found amazing the number of multiple plot themes the author is able to weave succinctly and skillfully into this mystery, and I also found the novel engrossing and compelling. I did not want to put it down before finishing (though a power outage ensured that I had to interrupt my reading). Author Gary Starta is prolific, but he is also sufficiently talented to carry off a novel that might have some writers quaking to try.
Caitlin Diggs has been an FBI agent for fifteen years, and she is a talented agent, highly proficient at her ugly job, catching serial killers. But the loss of the man she loved very much, a fellow agent, in a sting which should have been simple rather than deadly, has cost her terrible emotional turmoil. Additionally, her recent latent psychic abilities are latent no longer, and her visions are timely, vivid, and occasionally, on the deadly side. Matched against a shadowy opponent hubristic enough to take on even the Director of Homeland Security and win, Caitlin will be solving for her life, not just to close this case.
I love the Caitlin Digg's books. The author creates a character in Caitlin Digg's that reader will love. This novel combines supernatural with true life and conspiracy. When Greg Salinger of Homeland Security kills a woman and then jumps to his own death the mystery only begins. It will take everything Caitlin and Deondra Rivers, her new partner. have to solve this mystery and get to those behind mind altering drugs and murder. I love the author's writing style and ability to tell a story that keeps readers captivated and guessing throughout the novel's great story. Definitely one to grab! And enjoy!.
Book 2 of the Caitlin Diggs series brings the reader into the story right away. It's a well-written intense thriller as Diggs tries to stop her enemy, an enemy of humankind. Diggs has to focus on the new case, after a prominent suicide, but she still is dealing with her lover's death. It's a form of black magic that waves its powers the humans, and Diggs needs to stop it. This book was gripping from the first chapter, and it led me all the way to the end, in almost one sitting. I love a story where it makes sense with the mixture of thriller, suspense and hint of sci-fi. Starta is the author to keep an eye on, as his stories make a great impact.
Extreme Liquidation is a great follow-up to Blood Web. Both are installments to Gary Starta’s Caitlin Diggs series about an FBI agent with paranormal abilities that becomes a private investigator. If you want to read a mystery with a twist, this is the series for you.
