In Papercutz Slices #2: Breaking Down crude has never looked worse. I did not like anything about this cheap piece of literature sorry can't call it that and in fact it kind of made me mad. Is this the way people feel is right to earn money? By slapping on some shoddily drawn characters into a parse story-line and market it out to the young public?

I say young because who else would pick up a book like this but teens who want to laugh a little at Breaking Dawn/Twilight? Unless you're like me of course, and just a glutton for punishment, then you would grab this also. I leant this from my library (and what a wise decision that was!) because an excerpt of the first few pages was featured on Amazon and I thought:

"What the flying monkey! I have nothing to lose." Note now that I was most likely not in my senses. And I admit to nothing. There was no alcohol! I think.

But I did regret, and I lost something: my time. I can't really count on ten fingers how many brain cells kind of died off during the process of this read. They drift somewhere now in Brainless Siberia along with all my martyred Fallen and Jenna and Jonah's Nuggets. Please, a moment of silence for the cranium departed.

Bottom Line:

This was bull, complete and utter bull; and yea in a way I was expecting that, what with it being a Parody and all, but this was so much worse than I could have ever imagined.

The List of Suck:

a.) The art sucked.

b.) The story (can I call I call it that?) was a grenade of Charlie Sheen awfulness.

c.) Also, parodies are supposed to be funny, why wasn't I laughing?

d.) Stefan Petrucha owes me 1000000 brain cells and I plan to sue. In this day and age a woman cannot be losing crucial storing capacity such as brains of cells all willy nilly. My request to court will appear in the mail shortly.

If you know anything about the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, then you know it is massively popular, but there are vastly divergent opinions of the series. Personally, I’ve never read them and have no desire to.
For those who haven’t read the Twilight series or seen the movies, I’ll give a brief rundown. Bella moves to Forks, Oregon to live with her dad. She meets Edward, who is a sparkly brooding vampire. They fall in love. There are the obvious complications and their relationship has its ups and downs.
Breaking Down is a parody of the series. This graphic novel includes parodies of all four of Ms. Meyer’s Twilight novels. Since it is an unauthorized parody, character names have been changed, but it’s obvious who the characters are supposed to be.
The jokes are quick and funny, and you don’t need to read the original series to get them all. The writing is very good and the artwork is well-done, and highlights the fact that this IS a parody. While not all of the jokes are directly related to the books, Maia and Stephan Petrucha do quite well at poking fun at the series. Breaking Down is a fun read, and one that I think most readers would enjoy. Recommended.

I laughed so hard. and what is up with the light socket. I am a big spoof girl so just about anything that makes fun of stuff i really love i tend give it a chance. I think that I liked that harry potty one better but this was still quite funny. So i think that if you want a good laugh as all of us die hard series fans need ( you as we really need to lighting up a bit because you know us being crazy and all) check it out I think it was worth it.

OMG this is soooo wrong it is right! A graphic novel parody of the book Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. Did I mention so wrong?! Bella is named Bleh in this book along with Fredward and T-Bob (ie Edward and Jacob). This book is for anyone who is tired of the Twilight series and just needs a good laugh.

Not only does it parodies the Twilight series, it also parodies other vampires in TV shows and books.
Bella is portrayed as Bleh-Bleh a "buzz" addict. Edward is Fredward a sparking, wimpy vampire. And Jacob is portrayed as J-Bob.
It wasn't funny, but at least it wasn't boring.
I'm still in need of a good parody.

Don't waste your time.
When I saw this Twilight Parody I, of course, thought it would be funny... I can honestly say I didn't laugh once. The artwork was horrible, and what little bit of an actual story there was sucked. (No pun intended.)

I can usually find at least a couple of things about a book that I like but with this one... I just can't think of anything that I liked.

Elective Reading: Graphic Novel + Science Fiction/Fantasy

Summary:
This graphic novel parodies the entirety of the Twilight series into one narrative. With an emphasis on references to Breaking Dawn, the final book in the series, Breaking Down pokes fun at every vampire, werewolf, basic human girl love triangle trope. If you have not read the popular series, it is fairly straightforward to tell who Fredward Sullen, Bleh-Bleh, and J-Bob are alluding to.

Personal Reaction:
I liked the idea behind the book. However, the delivery felt a little clumsy. The jokes were redundant and similar enough to those made in several pop culture references to win original merit. There was almost a jealous tone throughout the novel that called out Twilight's basic-ness yet popularity. Instead of being a light-hearted and funny read that made the Twilight series seem dull, this book accomplished the opposite.

Where can I get a refund for the 15 minutes of my life spent reading this? I thought it would be a funny parody, but it was dumb.

some parts were funny and others not so much. to be honest, i only bought this because: 1) i'm a huge fan of twilight and was interested in seeing a parody of it and 2) i really enjoyed 'tales from the crypt: diary of a stinky dead kid'. 'breaking down' obviously did not live up to my expectations and it was not rlly that good. im sorry!!!

Breaking Down was a quick, entertaining if slightly odd parody.

Breaking Down is narrated by Bleh-Bleh’s father Duck. He gives us an update on what’s been happening over the last few years and we get to see in pictures how the story unfolds.

Bleh-Bleh is quite true to her Twilight counterpart, being exceptionally dull and dim-witted. It is emphasised here in her addiction of sticking her tongue in light-sockets “for a buzz”.

Fredward and J-Bob have equal panel time to Bleh-Bleh in this parody and it is made quite obvious who the authors think Bella should have ended up with.

We also get a cast of evil child stars (including appearances by the Rugrats, Stewie and Chuckie), super-heroes and quite well drawn renditions of the Volturi.

What kept me entertained about Breaking Down was that all of the questionable things from the Twilight Saga were brought up and emphasized, including but not limited to: Jacob’s imprinting on a child, Bella’s ability to chose the cold, dead, scrawny guy over the hot, live, nice guy, and Bella’s inability to realise that Edward was a dangerous killer.

Breaking Down was odd, it was not what I am looking for in a parody, when I think parodies I think Disc World series, a parody of life but not outrageously so, there is still a story in front of the comedy. This was an obvious jab at all the atrocities of Twilight, it was a weekend comic put together by Petrucha and his daughter and it was funny, it was light and it was quick.

I have still yet to find a parody that I enjoy without thinking “well, that’s just stupid and obvious”, but Breaking Down was an entertaining read for those of us that have read the Twilight series and who will be able to pick up on the major jokes but also a lot of the subtle and well hidden ones.

Breaking Down was a light, funny and playful approach to the Twilight saga.

I had a lot more fun with this one because I think Twilight lends itself well to parody. We follow the adventures of Bleh (Bella) as she meets vampires (including Fredward Sullen), werewolves (including J-Bob), zombies, and other monsters. And of course, she demonstrates her stupidity and she falls in love. There are some great scenes from the books that are included (I think it hits most of the big scenes) and there are some new scenes that I wish had been in the books (seriously, J-Bob’s obsessions are hilarious). And I enjoyed the twist on the Bella/Edward baby. Overall, I thought this was pretty funny and I would say I almost liked it.

Before I say anything I would like to preface it with this: I met Mir Petrucha and he was an amazingly fun gentleman.

1) As I mentioned before, Graphic Novels freak me out a little bit. So I can't say I particularly enjoyed this book.

2) I know it was supposed to be funny, but I don't believe it matched my humor, which I found to be quite sad. So when I say I didn't find it funny it's not because I thought it was rude of them to make fun of Twilight (when done tastefully and well I dont' care what you're making fun of generally, as attested by my love for Xlormp) But it was the kind of humor that I don't find humorous. Again, sad.

3) BUT, it was fairly clean and for those who enjoy making fun of things and enjoy Graphic Novels, I would say: go ahead and give this one a try.

Y'know looking at these reviews and seeing one of the authors comment on their reviews and being so childish about it explains a lot. Just look at the reviews from 2012 and you'll see what I mean.

Honestly, this has probably got to be one of the worst book parodies I've ever read in my life. With third grade humor, and art that's rather terrible, this book brings the satire genre to shame.

When a parody is done right, it can be done right. It doesn't mean watering it down to stupid and adding jokes that aren't relevant to the series at all; this book is something I'd recommend to people on what NOT to do in a parody. And that's probably the only good thing that ever came out of this book.

This graphic book was horrible. The art was ghastly and the parodies were not funny whatsoever. I was hoping to get a good laugh poking fun at the Twilight saga, but this book was just plain stupid. It seemed to be targeting 9 year old boys with potty humor as its target audience, but even that might be a reach. This comic is not even worth a library checkout, trust me.

I am a big Twilight fan,but I thought it would be fun to read a book that messes with Twilight. But with this book it kinda made me mad. I love twilight and all the characters in it (even edward at some points) but this books was just badly written and made all the characters look like idiots. I know thats what books like these usually do but this one took it alittle to far for me.

It was okay. Maybe it would've been better if I actually read the actual books but since I didn't, I don't really understand. I know kind of where the whole story revolves around to because I watched some of the movies. I just picked up the book and decided to read it because I love comic books and it mentioned being a parody, I expected to be laughing but I didn't.

MAD magazine-type parody of the Twilight genre. Not my cup of tea... It was not particularly well-drawn or well-written, but I guess it's not really supposed to be...
