StarCrossed 4: In the Blink of an Eye takes us back to Salem, Massachusetts, where the town is evolving from openly making amends for its witch-burning past to something darker. While some people choose to lock their doors and pretend those who are Other don't exist, some decide to use them to turn a profit.
For years the home of vampire Gennady Zaitsev has been a refuge to wayward supernatural boys. Taken in at the age of four, werefox Fallon Demeter has grown up with the love and caring of his blended, surrogate family. As the fragile peace enjoyed by the supernaturals begins to break down, Fallon draws the unwanted attention of a vicious enemy from Gennady's past. Plunged into a harrowing adventure that brings his forgotten past back with horrifying clarity, Fallon becomes lost and alone in the brutal outside world.
As the buffer the supernaturals have enjoyed for so long continues to erode, Salem may no longer be their safe haven.
The secret is about to get out.

Not For The Faint Of Heart---That sums up my work with Jaye Valentine. I've always spent a good deal of time with the darker side of my imagination. I was never afraid of the dark. In fact, some of my fondest memories are of Saturday afternoons with my dad watching Creature Double Feature with a big bowl of popcorn. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. Werewolves, angels, demons and vampires were my childhood passions. I guess I never grew up.
I live in a little town famous for its historical ax-murderess, where the Ghost Hunters TAPS has a home office. Salem—famous for witches, Newport—famous for pirates, and Providence—famous for H.P.Lovecraft are all under an hour's drive. I guess I really didn't have a chance of not turning out the way I did."

This latest installment of the StarCrossed series focuses on the story of Fallon and his relationship with Gennady, with a hefty dose of Jericho and some Jace/Konnor action to boot.
Overall, this story is positively sweet by SC standards. Truth be told, the SC series as a whole may be described as many things, but sweet is not usually one of them. Nevertheless, Fallon IS a sweet character and having this book focus on him to a great extent lent a bit of sweetness to the story. Also, the authors went out of their way to put the reader at ease in terms of the final outcome of one of the main plot lines from the start. This was a smart move that prevented the story from becoming an out of control angst fest and allowed the reader to focus on the details.
In a way this story felt a bit like an aside, a launching platform for the next book. Yes, it moved the overarching plot forward a little, but a good portion of the story was set in the past providing the history of Fallon and his arrival at Gennady's household, as well as background details on Jericho that set the stage for his story. In addition to these background stories, there are two plot lines set in the present. One relates to Fallon's abduction and rescue and the other relates to Jericho's activities and lifestyle. The events recounted in "In the Blink of an Eye" mark a turning point in the series, with the actual impact to become apparent in some future book.
Every series I have read has a book like this one, a little fluffier than the norm with a plot that makes the reader wonder if the information provided therein could have somehow been reworked and repackaged in a way that flowed into the previous book, or the next book or both. Yet, still providing enough entertainment value and tid bits of a beloved world to make it a worthwhile read. As a fan of the series, I found all of the history provided very interesting as it sheds light into the causes and motives of past events and actions, particularly as it relates to Jace and Konnor. I also greatly enjoyed the new characters introduced, and hope to read more about them someday. While this book was not as "meaty" (no pun intended) as I expected, I loved it and I can't wait for the next one.
The StarCrossed series stands out for its top notch writing, fantastic world building, vivid imagery and strong "nothing sacred" themes. StarCrossed 4: In the Blink of an Eye is a great addition to the series, a must read for SC fans and yet another reason for new readers to jump into the StarCrossed bandwagon. That said, I encourage new readers to read the series in order, as I believe it increases the enjoyment of the books.
In The Blink of An Eye by Reno MacLeod and Jaye Valentine is the fourth book in the StarCrossed series and focused on the story of werefox Fallon Demeter, how he becomes part of the Zaitsev family and Gennady’s lover and partner, and how he is almost lost to them when he’s abducted. In Book 4, the authors turn out another well-written, multi-layered and captivating story that, in addition to featuring Fallon’s tale, takes the reader deeper into the dynamics and relationships of the Zaitsev family, grows the StarCrossed world and prepares the way for the next book in this continuing series.

**4.5** Not sure what I can say about this series that I haven't already said - well-written, interesting and unique characters, fascinating plot and world-building. It's definitely a fave series of mine and with regards to this particular book, I loved getting a peek at the past and how the "family" came to be a family. I really hope there's going to be another installment.
