Lucy has some very strange neighbors with horns, humps, tails, and trunks. That's because Lucy lives next door to the zoo! Every night, she climbs down the long neck of Georgina the Giraffe and listens to one of them tell her a story. Tonight it's Lucy's turn to listen to the story of Georgina the Giraffe. Georgina is very talented and wants everyone to know. But things don't go quite according to plan.
Another of the loved one book. I would recommend reading a book to my son rather than spoiling him by sticking him to the TV. Always encourage your child to read rather than showing a television series.
Should your child (or grandchild) be an avid viewer of CBeebies then they are probably familiar with the TV show “64 Zoo Lane”. If they love the TV show then getting this book, or one of the others in the series, is a no-brainer.
This book has nice wide pages with colourful pictures on them that match the art from the TV show. Inside is the story of Georgina the Giraffe, but also the lyrics to the theme song from the TV show so that you can sing along to that too.
Georgina the Giraffe is probably one of the favourite animals at the zoo because it is always she that lets Lucy slide down her neck to come into the zoo every night for her bedtime story, as told by one of the animals.
Georgina’s story (which matches one of the TV episodes) is of how she got her neck in a knot one day and so had to see the knot doctor. It is a funny story because everyone knows giraffes in real-life can’t get knots in their necks, and also because of the pictures. For example when she gets to the knot doctor she has to queue in line behind lots of other animals with knotty problems of their own, e.g. a chameleon who has a knot in a place you’d expect.
All in all this is a perfect companion to the TV show.
If I’ve read this book once then I’ve read it a hundred times. When my son was little it was one of his favourite bedtime stories (along with The Gingerbread Man which, to this day, I can recite word for word. If fact it could be my specialist subject on Mastermind)
This entire series of books are beautifully illustrated and have entertaining stories featuring memorable characters
Sadly my son has grown out of these and is now working his way through the adventures of Harry Potter.
There is something magical about sharing a book with your child at bedtime and I have very fond memories of Georgina the Giraffe and the knot in her neck
3.5 stars. This book is part of the '64 Zoo Lane' series that is also seen on TV. In this story, Georgina the Giraffe gets a knot in her neck after showing off. Her friends can't get the knot out, so they take her to the knot doctor where she learns something valuable.
The illustrations are fun and it's got a good lesson about the dangers of showing off. I thought the part about the knot doctor was really original. However, I was a little surprised with the final sentence. It wasn't necessarily the most obvious conclusion for the story. Overall, a nice tale with good values.
