The Forest is an entertaining set of poetry, plays, and short anthologies written by Laura Lonshein Ludwig. The poems in this book have topics about Author Laura’s life, making each one personal and autobiographical in nature. The author covers many topics from her life experiences to relationships with people making this a relatable read. The plays are written in a historical context about the public and historical figures. The short stories are diverse in topic making each read unique and intriguing.
The poems were my favorite part of this book because Ludwig’s poetry is beautiful and resonated with me. The author’s writing is powerful and her ability to show her different writing styles shines through her writing. My favorite play was the Oscar Wilde play, but I felt the author’s note in the middle took away from it. I would’ve preferred to have seen the author’s note before the story or at the beginning of her book. The formatting of the short stories also made them more difficult to read as some of them did not have great paragraph breaks. However, this doesn’t take away completely from Laura’s writing as her stories had interesting concepts, and I think that readers who enjoy poetry, plays, and short stories Will enjoy what the author has to offer. Particularly if you like learning about others’ lives through art and historical fiction. I would suggest you give this a read!
