For more than forty years, Robert E. Coleman's bestselling The Master Plan of Evangelism has been the standard in evangelism literature. But what is the theology behind evangelism? And why is it important for Christians to understand? The Heart of the Gospel offers a systematic theology of evangelism that will ground and inform our practice of spreading the Good News. Each chapter covers a major biblical doctrine, explains its various evangelical interpretations, treats misconceptions that adversely affect evangelism, and offers practical applications of the doctrine. Based on decades of classroom teaching, this comprehensive work is aimed at ministry readers interested in evangelism and outreach.
Robert E. Coleman is widely known for his ministry as a disciplemaker and evangelist, and for many years has given leadership to the Billy Graham Center Institute of Evangelism at Wheaton College, along with the International Schools of Evangelism. He is the author of 21 books, including bestseller The Master Plan of Evangelism. Translations of one or more of his books are published in 100 languages. He and his wife, Marietta, reside in Deerfield, Illinois. They have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren.
Robert Coleman’s Master Plan of Evangelism has been a go to book I have trained dozens of dozens of disciple makers with. This theology is a helpful complement to those wishing to understand the theology that undergirds his philosophy. His ability to tie each systematic component to evangelism is a helpful reminder and his applications are far superior to those attempted by most systematic theologians. He continually lands on a Wesleyan perspective on theological issues, but generously explains other options.
I read this book for a class I need to take for my organization. This was a great book for an overview of theology for someone who has not studied it before. What I really liked about it especially was the illustrations that were provided. They drove points home really well, and some of the stories made me tear up. It also gave a well rounded view of both a Calvinistic and an Arminian perspective on certain points, giving the best arguments for both sides. It also was clear to point out what were heresies also. Recommended for anyone who wants to begin studying theology
Didn’t read every single chapter, but such a great synopsis of different theological doctrines in an easily digestible format. I liked how simply stated each description was while still being rich. I learned a lot from each section. I also liked the application portions of each chapter, which were very relevant and not overly wordy. Would recommend if you’re looking to develop your view of theology!
Excellent, a theology founded on the gospel. Coleman's writing and illustrations take you back to an era where the gospel was truly foundational to Christian living. His systematic theology as presented in this book is based on the premise that the gospel is, after all, the point of Christian theology.
Who ever knew a theology book could be so interesting and hard-to-put-down? Highly recommend this for everyone! I didn't want to finish it...will re-read for sure!
