He'd gone bloody daft. He was hunkered here in a wet, stinking grave, straddling a corpse, thinking about shagging the girl. The attraction was about more than her lovely face and sleek build. She fascinated him for some bizarre, inexplicable reason. [...]

Funny how no matter how hard you ran from destiny, it always caught up and bit you in the ass.

Naphré Kurata is an assassin/enforcer with a conscience who left the Asetian Guard (a secretive, elite organization that protects the interests of the Daughters of Aset) because she felt that, despite her almost overwhelming sense of duty, choices that were made via lies and obfuscation didn't count as choices at all. Unfortunately, that decision lands her in an untenable situation where various gods are vying for both her mortal life and her eternal soul...



She was trouble in a dark-haired, dark-eyed, incredibly alluring package, and if he had half a brain, he'd get as far from her as he could.
Unfortunately, he was beginning to doubt that he had even half a brain.

Alastor Krayl is a soul reaper who is grieving the mysterious murder of his brother, Lokan. He's willing to do anything to locate and somehow rescue his sibling from the Underworld and exact vengeance upon his still unknown killers. When further investigation puts him on the trail of Naphré's mentor, it leads him to Naphré herself (in a rather unusual, sad situation), a shared, intense attraction that knocks him on his ass (and continually messes with his plans), as well as far more questions than answers...

Suddenly she had the most bizarre thought. "You followed me home to make sure I was okay? Like we were at our high school prom? You're kidding, right?"
He opened his mouth, closed it, and in his silence, she had her answer.

Alastor and Naphré eventually decide to work together for various reasons, despite holding back huge, potentially devastating secrets from one another. This, of course, brings about some rather intense, wicked hot moments between them as their relationship develops and their painful pasts are revealed. Time is running out and dire circumstances lead to some dangerous adventures that threaten to destroy them both and require far greater sacrifices than either ever imagined...

Once again, Ms. Silver brought a kickass cool heroine to the table with a dangerously hot hero (who is rather controlled... until he's not) who's more than willing to pull out her chair for her (or, better yet, offer her his lap...). Okay, okay, I confess that that's my own contribution to this tale, but you get what I'm saying here, right?


He looked raw and wild. There was nothing left of the controlled, impeccable facade he preferred to present. He was stripped bare, primal and male and so beautiful, Naphré's heart ached.
"I didn't know if I was ever going to see you again," she whispered. "I couldn't bear not seeing you again."
His gaze locked on hers; his eyes darkened, the pupils dilating, leaving only a thin blue rim.
The way he looked at her made her shiver. There was something inside him, something dark and animalistic. The walls had come down; the beast was free.
She wanted to say something. She didn't know what.
He didn't offer her the chance.
His mouth was on hers, hard, hungry, demanding. No gentle kiss. A claiming. A marking. His teeth nipped her lower lip. His tongue stroked the hurt. She moaned and reached for him, her hands fisting in his hair, her body responding on a level she hadn't even known was part of her.

This second book in the Sins Series has action, romance, serious heat, moments unexpected, definite humor, and great characters that you can't help but root for as they fight for answers, love, freedom, and each other. I really enjoyed hanging out with Naphré and Alastor again, and I hope if you go here, you will too.

This was a great sequel to The Sin Series, but it was not as amazing as the first book.

This book follows Alastor Krayl, the brother of Dagan and son of Sutekh, the Underworld God of Chaos and Evil. After being forced to abandon his normal life to live as a soul reaper, Alastor was united with his brothers, and they saved him from losing his mind. But when he discovered one of his brothers were murdered, he is hurt. All he wants to do is find his brother's murderer and avenge his brother's death. After meeting Naphré Kurata, he slowly changes his goal to something new.

Alastor's character is very unique, I like the way he speaks and how we get to learn more about his past life as a human. It was interesting to see him grow through this adventure. Naphré Kurata is funny and strong, I like how she does not depend on others and does not care about what other people think. Roxy and Naphré are similar in some ways because they are both strong, but they have some differences which is great. I'm glad that they are different from Roxy and Dagan, and how their worlds collided.

One of the reasons of why I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first was probably because of the insta-love. Alastor and Naphré Kurata instantly feel this connection but I didn't feel their connection to be that strong. Dagan and Roxy had a connection due to their past, but Alastor and Naphré Kurata are different. I feel like their relationship was rushed and they were pushed together rather than having their relationship develop.

The plot was complex and the world was amazing. I can't wait to explore more of this world, it is so unique, and the way everything is organized is amazing. I love how this book is unpredictable, I hate when I know how the book would end. I like how the characters are loyal and how strong all of their connections are. I was glad that Roxy and Dagan were in this book, I wished they were in it more though.

I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster, at points I was super happy while other times I was angry or felt for the characters. I loved the writing style, Eve Silver does a great job of grasping reader's attention.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series, it is amazing so far!


I highly recommend this book to everyone, and if you do plan on reading this, don't forget to read the first book! I'll be off again!

Alastor Krayl is obsessed with finding his brother's killer and Naphre Kurata may be the key to discovering what happened to him. Each of these strong willed individuals is desperate to keep their secrets but this need is at war with their growing attraction. Can they learn to trust before it is too late and they lose everything they never knew they always wanted?

The story continues from the point where Sins of the Heart left off and is a strong sequel. It must be noted that the books should be read in order or the complex plot becomes virtually incomprehensible.

Alastor and Naphre are exciting characters and their backgrounds and motivation are detailed and intriguing. Their romance, however, is not as prominent or as developed as Dagan and Roxy’s. Alastor is very controlled and does not allow his emotions to influence his decisions until Naphre comes along and he cannot understand why she affects him so deeply. Naphre is very similar to Roxy – sexy, smart and spunky. Her professional ethics as an underworld assassin are particularly appealing.

The story begins with Alastor’s attempt to gain more information concerning the mystery surrounding his brother Lokan’s murder. However, as the tale progresses the focus shifts away from this aspect of the plot and readers are no closer to discovering who is behind the horrendous bloodletting. Instead, the storyline moves toward Naphre’s true identity and the revelation of which underworld god has prior claim to the sins of her soul.

The mythology is well-researched and fascinating. It is refreshing to read about mythologies other than the Greeks and the Romans, and the focus in this installment is on the Japanese goddess of death. Silver’s writing is unique and her attention to detail is excellent. One thing that stands out is her use of accent and dialogue. For example, Alastor grew up in regency England and his vocabulary and style of speech reflect his origins. As with the revised edition of the first book, Silver has overcome most of the repetitious phrasing and identical wording.

The updated version of the book also resolves the abrupt ending of the original, yet the new epilogue still does not return the reader back into the main mystery. Nevertheless, the next installment focusing on the third brother, Mal, and Calliope another daughter of Aset will provide some of the necessary closure.

It's Alaster Krayl's turn in the spotlight as the second Soul Reaper son of an Egyptian god tries to claim a soul which may have crucial knowledge about his brother's death. Unfortunately, Alaster's attempt to retrieve the info is foiled when the goddess, Izanami, announces a prior claim on said soul. When Alaster attempts a to bargain for the soul, the exchange his father offers on Alaster's behalf presents a real dilemma for Alaster - because as much as Alaster wants to save his brother from limbo, this bartered soul is one that Alaster wants to keep for himself.

Despite the setup, not much happens towards the series arc in Sins of the Soul. But that didn't bother me since I really liked the leading pair - Naphre, is smart a capable assassin who rejected her heritage as a Guardian daughter of Asset, but still didn't escape her fate - but somehow she manages to maintain a moral code of sorts when accepting assignments. And Alaster, who is the cultured son of a god - but beneath his polished veneer, something wild and anguished lurks. Both Naphre and Alaster have interesting backstories - I really enjoyed the way that author Silver used a Japanese myth to parallel Alaster's - and I appreciated that Silver allowed the pairs connection to develop slowly and lets the tension between them build instead of rushing the consummation.

I liked Sins of the Soul a great deal, I am really enjoying Eve Silver's Otherkin series and three Soul Reaper brothers who find forbidden love while searching for the soul of another brother who was murdered. And I am fascinated by the mythological underworld tie-ins from different cultures' that Silver has included in her series - in her first book Sins of the Heart (Hqn) they were mostly Egyptian and in Sins of the Soul, the Japanese diety associated with creation and death, Izanami, plays a significant role which added that extra something for me.

Now I am anxiously waiting the final book in the trilogy and final brother Mal's story. Sins of the Flesh (Hqn) is coming the beginning of next month. If you are looking for a bit more of Silver's soul reapers you may want to check out the standalone e-prequel Sin's Daughter.

The hunt for Lokan's killer and the search for his body continues in this second installment of Eve Silver's Otherkin series. This book picks up just days after the last one left off. Dagan, Alastor and Mal are no closer to figuring out who killed their brother. But they haven't given up.

Alastor is following a lead when his path first crosses with Naphré. She is a Topworld Assassin who has turned her back on her heritage as a Daughter of Aset... the sworn enemies of Alastor's father, Sutekh, the Lord of Chaos. Things aren't going well for Naphré. Her mentor, Butcher, has betrayed her and taken a job to kill her. Naphré manages to turn the tables, but just as she buries his body, Alastor shows up. He knows Butcher could have information about who killed Lokan, so he harvests the man's soul to bring to his father for answers. But Butcher's soul belongs to another deity and she wants the soul that is due to her.

There is an immediate awareness and attraction between Alastor and Naphré. Both characters are strong, but stoic. They have both known deep loss, but keep a tight reign on their emotions. Neither is looking for love, but they can't ignore what is growing between them. I liked these two much better than Dagan and Roxy. It's probably one of the reasons that I liked the book better, as a whole. Neither was reckless or full of bluster. Neither was obnoxious. But when push comes to shove, both can and do kick ass. The burn is a slower build between them, which is good. It feels like it takes forever to get to the consummation, but the payoff is good.

Another plus for this installment is the fact that the world building is already in place. It makes the storytelling less cumbersome and the book moved much faster. There was a lot of action and intrigue surrounding all the different gods and factions. The ending was pretty abrupt, though. And while the state of our couple's relationship is resolved, there is virtually no movement in the mystery of Lokan's murder. Yep, it's another cliffhanger. That would really annoy me if I didn't already have the next book lined up to read. 4 stars.

This author surprises me. I don't know why I expect this series to be blah but I did. And it's not. It's a surprisingly well developed world with all kinds of gods and goddesses, all manner of demons and creepy crawlies. And though it took a good while for the couple to get to even meet and interact a lot, the end conflict was intense, the love passionate and tender. The sex is HOT!

There were a few parts that I skimmed...lots of lagging action, and I felt like much of the internal dialogue could have been cut out. But when Naphre' and Alastor are on the move and kicking ass, they really kicked ass. The ending to this book sealed the fourth star for me. So if you read this and get bored, hold out for the last bits!

Care Fenici, vi presento un bel romanzo fantasy con demoni, dei degli Inferi e molti altri personaggi particolari.

Di questa autrice non avevo letto niente e devo dirvi che il mondo che ha creato mi affascina soprattutto grazie alla quantità di grandi fighi che cacciano l’anima – chissà perché i cattivi devono essere sempre belli e affascinanti -, sette e dispute tra le divinità demoniache.

La narrazione, almeno all’inizio, è lenta, purtroppo, ma andando avanti si rifà alla grande.

I personaggi sono descritti molto bene, non solo fisicamente, ma anche caratterialmente riuscendo a prendere vita nella mia testa.

Come sulla Terra, anche negli Inferi ci sono padri stronzi con relative problematiche tra e genitori-figli, il che me lo ha reso più reale. Il rapporto che hanno i fratelli Krayl è invidiabile, sono legatissimi.

Ho sentito una particolare preferenza per è Naphé, una donna giovane, cresciuta dal nonno e il padre, entrata nella guardia Asetiana per diritto di nascita, ma al momento di seguire la tradizione e bere il sangue fugge via.

Da allora la sua vita è stata un susseguirsi di situazioni e decisioni pessime, ma ha un carattere forte, determinata a farcela da sola.

Anche negli inferi bisogna saper usare la diplomazia, gli dei sono manipolatori e cercano sempre di fregare gli altri – come gli uomini – e hanno ambasciatori che possono viaggiare per i vari regni degli Inferi, per fortuna perché se ci si addentra in un territorio non proprio si rischia di non uscirne più.

La ragazza incontra per la prima volta Alastor fuori da un locale, non sa chi è ma si sente subito attratta da lui, sente di conoscerlo anche se sa di non averlo mai visto, è convinta che lui non l’abbia vista, invece si sbaglia di grosso, anche lui si sente attratto da lei anche se non dovrebbe, lui è un mangia anime, col passare dei secoli gli si è indurito il cuore, ma non riesce a dimenticare Naphé.

I due si ritroveranno spesso in situazioni di pericolo, e senza sapere il perché sentono di potersi e doversi fidare l’uno dell’altra.

Anche se l’attrazione esplode subito tra i due, entrambi sono determinati a non cedere, per ammettere di essersi innamorati dovranno rischiare la loro vita e vedere Alastor fare l’estremo sacrificio per salvare il suo amore mi ha emozionata tantissimo.

Be ready for your soul to move with these characters

Oh this novel! If you thought Sins of the Heart was hard to put down... take a breath and prepare to do it again. I have noticed that sometimes the second and third novel just don't quite measure up to the magic of the first book in a series. I am happy to report that this is not the case at all in this series. This book has fire, ice, moments where you want to cry (and might find yourself even doing so,) and moments that warm your soul. The characters in this novel are so complex and so human... well as human as one of them can get being a demigod, but you get what I am trying to say.

Alastor is such a pure breed gentleman in one minute and such a razor edge, what choice is he going to make, and is he lying- in the next kind-a-guy. He is delightfully delicious and tragically handsome... like Hamlet. If Hamlet was as powerful as Alastor was I can guarantee that Hamlet would have ended differently. I would love to have this frightening, charming, control freak over as guest for dinner. I want to hear all his stories.

Naphre has built walls, and rightfully so. She also has many reasons for hiding those walls and not revealing her true self. She is such a beautiful, sad, lonely, hard, disconnected by miles kind-a- gal. I would also love to have her over for dinner, but I am aware now that dinner would be filled with small talk and her evasive answers. Still, I would love to hear her sayings and talk to her about all her different trail mixes she makes. Some sounds really yummy, while others... not so much.

I can not praise this series enough and can not praise this novel enough. When I reached the ending of it I was so full of emotion. I will not tell you what kind- I do not want to give anything away. =)

E IL PUZZLE INIZIA AD AVERE UN SENSO

tutto bello a parte la Shikome! io odio insetti & co..per cui stavo di un maleeeeeee @_@

trama avvincente ci sono nuovi personaggi e altri tasselli del puzzle si uniscono. I due protagonisti Alastor e Naphrè mi sono molto piaciuti.. così freddi e "ho tutto sotto controllo" e poi...fanno davvero scintille!!!! vedi capitolo 12 O_O.

è vero si conoscono da pochi giorni..ma tutto quello che hanno passato e che passano insieme...non può fare altro che unirli ancora di più.

Come lo scorso libro la trama la fa da padrone, ma quelle 2,3 scene d'amore che ci sono sono davvero intense e bollenti..e anche le nuove scoperte che si fanno in tutto questo mistero lasciano davvero senza fiato.

é davvero ricco di emozioni e di sorprese e non è il solito romanzo tiepidino..qui c'è davvero di più. E scusate della fine ne vogliamo parlare? nooooooooo tutto è ancora sospeso!

é stato all'altezza delle mie aspettative, sono proprio contenta! Brava Harmony questa autrice tiene davvevero incollati alle pagine e nn è il solito stravisto e rivisto.

e la nostra Naphrè è metà egiziana e giapponese per cui all'inizio di ogni capitolo abbiamo delle perle di saggezza giappo. e io che adoro giappone ed egitto..non vi dico!!!! *_*

These books are just fulfilling ALL of my needs! I’m getting a little bit of fantasy, paranormal, romance AND badass female characters and men who let them just BE. Gotta love it.

Sins of the Soul is a continuation of Dagans story “Sins of the Heart” and it follows Soul Reaper Alastor, another one of the Krayl brothers, on his journey to find their brother Lokan who was murdered. His soul was sent to an unknown realm in the underworld and the remaining three Krayl brothers are doing their very best to find him. While following another weak lead that may give answers as to where his brother is or what happened to him in the first place, he crosses the path of Zaphre. A topworld enforcer/assassin who has had her own dealings with demons and underworld gods. Of course their meeting sparks an attraction which leads to a world of confusion and resistance.

I love these books and I love the direction I think it’s going in. Eve Silver has a really great way of giving you just enough information to follow what’s going on but leaving just enough information and facts in the dark so that you’re constantly questioning what’s going on and what’s going to happen next. I have so many questions that I want answered but there was never a time where I felt like in order for me to enjoy the book, those questions needed to be answered immediately. There’s a perfect amount of intrigue in these books. I love how each book is following a different Krayl brother but all of the stories are tied together by the search for their brother and answers about what happened to him.

In Sins of the Heart we got to meet Dagan, the oldest of the four Krayl brothers. He’s sexy in a nonchalant way, a tad disheveled, badass with an attitude and the cajones to back it up. Alastor Krayl is the exact opposite of him. Alastor is regal and clean cut. He wears suits, expensive shoes and has a British accent. Think Klaus and Elijah but reverse the accents. Alastor is doing his part in trying to find his brother when he runs into Zaphre, a hired gun with conscience. There are different entities gunning for either Zaphres soul or her life, entities that may have answers or something do with Lokans disappearance so it only makes sense for Zahpre and Alastor to team up and try and dissect the puzzle as a team. And boy do things get hot and heavy!

What I love about these books so far, is that even though on the surface, the romance has the same blueprint, they’re completely different love stories. Dagan and Roxy’s relationship in Sins of the Heart was about reconnecting and making up for lost time. Zaphre and Alastor have never met, so the relationship and the attraction they feel for one another is fresh and new. It was great watching them get to know each other and fall for one another. Alastor is so different from his brother but they both carry that bad boy demeanor and its sexy as hell.

There were brief mentions of a “prophecy” throughout this book. That information along with the uncanny way the Krayl brothers are dropping like flies to the power of love with these women they should despise, has me thinking something more sinister and conniving is going on. Something more than just cupid shooting his arrows in their direction. It’s another of those intriguing things about these books that I’m loving so much and I cannot wait to get to the next book in tis series.

Silver continues in the Otherkin Trilogy with the second installment, featuring Soul Reaper brother Alastor. Alastor and his brothers are still on the hunt for their murdered brother, doing their best to unravel the few clues they were given. When Alastor is pointed in the direction on Naphré's mentor, he follows her to try and find out if she is a witness to the murder of his brother, or if she was involved with the killers.

Naphré is stuck as a hit man for the Underworld, and while she absolutely hates her job, her mentor made sure that she was really good at it. When he turns on her, she has to make a decision, her life or his? When she kills her own mentor, and realizes that Alastor has taken an interest in her, they go off together trying to find the answers to the questions they both have.

Their passion continues to ignite, even though neither wants it to. And when they are both lost in the Underworld, they do everything they can to get back to each other, to save each other from an eternity of nothingness. They both are willing to risk their souls for each other, despite all the secrets that were between them.

I really enjoy the mystery of this series, and can't wait for the answers regarding the youngest Krayl brother's death. While I understand why Silver is stretching the case out across the three books, I tend to get a little frustrated when one question in answered, and ten more come up. While I can appreciate it, it also drives me bonkers!! I can only hope that Silver wraps the series up a lot better than each book.

I really enjoyed Alastor and Naphré's characters. I absolutely love reading books in the regency period, and the fact that Alastor was raised as an aristocrat in that period, and still held many of the values he was raised with, made him swoon worthy in my book. I was somewhat surprised by his willingness to eat the food of the Underworld to save Naphré's soul. It really seemed to me that while he knew he had feelings for her, he didn't seem really ready to admit it yet. But, again it was just one of those things Alastor does that totally makes him swoon worthy in my book. Likewise, I enjoyed Naphré. I thought she was a smart, kick ass heroine who made the best out of the crappy hand that life has dealt her. She was spunky, full of laughs, and an overall great character.

I felt as if both the first and this second book were ended rather abruptly. It seems as if the plot is cruising, cruising along. The characters determine they want to make their relationship work, and suddenly it's over. While I appreciate the HEA as much as the next romance lover, I have come to find that I need a little more than “and they lived happily ever after.”

I can’t wait to read the final installment, and find out exactly how the murder took place, if the Krayl brothers are going to be able to bring their youngest brother back, and get a better insight into the Otherkin world. I must say, Silver has a way of sucking you in with her descriptive language, creating a vivid picture of exactly what is going on.

All in all, I give Sins of the Soul 3.5 out of 5 Underworld Hit Women.

This was an excellent book. The writing is so descriptive I could tell ES had an anatomy bcakground. Totally descriptive of wounds, cuts burns etc. She is an excellent writer, but characterization lacks for me. ONLY on the female heroine side though.

I have 3 minute problems that bug me. It's my own quirp, so I cannot take it away from the book.

1: The cover models are ugly. Not at all descriptive of the character in the book. If there is a discrepancy, always go for a headless model. Writers don't choose, publishers do. Someone needs to be fired, because I see the same thing with books over and over. Don't judge a book by it's cover, but that is supposed to get you interested in the books in the first place. I saw "new writer" & "good scores above 3.80 stars" on goodreads. ONLY reason I bought them.

2: I grew up in CA, the melting pot of the US. I am currently in the South where everyone has to be politically correct & nationalities must be split fair, no one getting more attention than the other. So far in each of these books, each charater is a mixed race. It puts me back here and irritated that ok here we go back to politically correct. Like the writer wants to be fair and appeal to everyone. I don't care about fair. All my friends are blended, but who cares about the importance to mention father Japanese, mother whatever or previously, father Jamaican or carribean (I can't remember) mother from Chicago... (what does that mean?)

3: The characters are cold and hard, nothing to love, no initial draw that sucks me in and makes me want to sit up all night reading it. It seems slow to start, although since the hard first half of the first book in this series (which I had to force myself to read)then finally I got who was who. This book was smoother because I already "got it".

Sins of the Soul is the 2nd book in the Otherkin trilogy. It tells the story from Alastor Krayl's perspective. He and his brothers continue to try to find their lost brother's soul before it's too late and the one(s) that were somehow able to kill him.

Alastor and Naphré first cross paths at a club entrance, she's leaving and he's arriving. His battle with himself over his attraction to her is entertaining and by the end, you are happy to find they are good match for each other.

Naphré, having forsaken her birthright, ends up being a killer anyway through a twist of fate. When her mentor and partner turns on her, she crosses paths with Alastor again. This time, he's following her. She's none to happy about it, but once she learns his intentions are to see that she's safe, she forgives him. ;)

Alastor claims a soul which he believes might hold the knowledge of his brother's death. Before he can have his father gather any information from it, Goddess Izanami announces a prior claim to it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the trippy world Eve created in this book. The characters find themselves in places with no time and total darkness, characters who are made up of creepy crawlies. It was dark and twisted and I loved it.

I couldn't wait to find out what happened next and jumped right from this to the final book in the trilogy, Sins of the Flesh.

This one starts off shortly after the first books cliffhanger. In this one we are reading the romance between two reluctant characters, Alastor and Naphré. Two characters who find it hard to trust in another and in their surroundings. Both are bound by certain paranoia and a need for control. This draws them together but also keeps them at arms distance. So, quite a bit of the book is very frustrating, however it does make sense.

As fast paced as the first book was, I was expecting the same from this one as well. Unfortunately, the beginning did seem to drag on a bit. However, the last half of the book made it worthwhile. I really enjoyed that part of the book. These two characters were made for each other and it was fun to find out how simular they really were. How their lives took on different directions, but they seemed to come to simular conclusions.

I give this book 3 1/2 stars. I do recommend this book, but really suggest you read the first in the series before picking up this one. You get more clues as to what is going to happen within the story and I have a few ideas I'm not going to share. This book also concluded a bit better than the first, so I didn't end up shaking my fist. The next in the series, Sins of the Flesh, should prove to be very interesting indeed. I also love this book because so far all of the heroines in the stories are women of mixed race. I just wish they included them on the cover.

This is such a fun, mysterious, and engaging series. Each book is about one of the brothers and they are trying to find out who killed brother number 4, Lokan, to seek vengeance, and possibly bring him back. This book was centered around Alaster. We still get to see glimpses of Dagan and Roxy, who were the leads of the last book, which was great since I completely loved them!

Alaster was a great character. He was flawed and insecure in some ways, but also strong and completely yummy! He missed and mourned the family he had before he realized who he was, but he also let it make him stronger. Naphre was a great female lead. She's a Topworld assassin, an assassin on earth, carrying out the jobs for the demons. Don't worry though, Nephre has her own set of moral codes, she only kills killers. Naphre won't accept jobs that don't fit into the bad guy code. She's strong and funny, and a smart-ass, which I love!

This series is great because it's so original in it's paranormal element. I love all the twists and turns that the politics of the underworld takes. The mystery keeps me guessing, every time I think I have it figured out, another twist gets thrown in and I'm trying to figure it out all over again. Overall, this book was just a great as the first and I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is Book 2 of a trilogy of which I didn't read book 1, but I was able to follow along despite the complex cast of characrers that seem to have made up Book 1.

What I liked most were the very unusual settings (diverse realms of multiple deities below ground and above)and highly creative beings and backgrounds woven into the story. Very refreshing to find something other (ha!) than the numerous vampires or UK settings out there.

What I liked least was the 'You've got to be kidding' cover. Mostly, it's quite nice, with dramatic purple/black color scheme and the obligatory nekkid manchest much more tastefully done than the usual in your face presentation. The author's name in silver foil and striking font is also great in itself - but who decided the hero should flaunt a big silver dagger in place of genitalia? I've heard snark about penis-swords and such on romance covers, but this takes the 'Unsubtle much?' cake.

This is the second book of the Otherkin Trilogy and it centers on Alastor Krayl. Alastor is trying to find out who has murdered his youngest brother and becomes obsessed with it. A reluctant Underworld enforcer, Naphré wakes up some emotions that are new to the soul reaper, Alastor. Both are torn between duty and desire for each other.

The story is filled with wonderful details and descriptions. I enjoyed the way Eve Silver brought out her characters. They were filled with so many emotions and for me that is a plus.

This book is a faced passed page turner. I recommend reading the first book in the series prior to this one. Although they are two different books, they are of one adventure. I'm simply excited to get my hands on the last book of the trilogy, Sins of the Flesh.

I couldn't put this book down! I'm waffling between giving it 4.5 or 5 stars based on reading despite the headache, popping Alleve, and ignoring hunger pains. Although, I'm not sure it ranks up there with Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews.

Sins of the Soul, book 2 in a trilogy, continues with the search for Lokan's killer(s). Who is the the Big Bad? Will Lokan be returned to his body? The politics, the intrigue, the conspiracy, not to mention the compelling characters have me totally hooked in the Otherkin world. Today, I ran out and purchased the last book, Sins of the Flesh, along with another Eve Silver book.

Eve Silver delivers another gem. The underlying story of “who killed Lokan” is still there, but I feel like a lot of this was put to one side.

I listened to the audiobook version of this, and the narrator’s did a great job. Especially Vincent Lee Grayson who does a spectacular job of differentiating between the male characters - truly amazing! And Lilian Yves is so good at portraying the emotions and internal battle of Naphre.

Daegan and Roxy’s story (book 1) built into who killed Lokan, and why he willing let them take him. Yet in Alastor and Naphre’s story (book 2) we learn of a prophecy involving the blood of Sutekh and Aset, and have a glimpse of where Lokans soul is.

I knew from the small part he played in Sins of the Heart that I was going to like Alastor Krayl. He’s charming, polite, loyal and elegant…but ruthless in all the right ways! I certainly fell for him quicker than Naphre did! His brothers are everything I him…until he meets Naphre. And the mention of his human life and family shows a brokenness to him.

Naphre Kurata is an assassin with morales, who finds herself on the wrong side of a job. But from the start, she proves herself to be badass, and not someone you really want to mess with. Although we do know Butcher was dying, and made sure he gave Naphre the opportunity to get the upper hand, it doesn’t take away from how badass she is. Again, the story also shows that Naphre has a level of brokenness to her, after her mother abandoned her for the daughters of Aset and her father died.

Both characters are strong, but haunted by their pasts. And their journeys are almost mirrored in each other. Their doubts and fears around their choices and feelings added to the characters journeys together.

The last few chapters were intense, first with the trip to Izanami’s realm, which turned out not be that afterall. Then Alastor sensing Locan briefly. Alastor and Naphre finally having their way with each other - especially after the intense chemistry between them throughout the book. Izanami telling Naphre the truth over who owned her soul before Alastor could piece everything together and tell her himself. Then Alastor making the ultimate choice to save Naphre and trapping himself in Izanami’s realm…only to find out he wasn’t trapped at all, and return to Naphre.

Now for the who the hell is stupid enough to cross these soul reaping brothers?? Well I have two theories…Sutekh, or Mal…and I like Mal thus far, he’s funny, so don’t let it be him! And why would Sutekh betray his sons and kill one. But you have to wonder how Kahidji was involved with the Sutekh’s followers without the knowledge of his boss! And now a prophecy has been mentioned which may allow Sutekh topside…so that’s who my money is on!

It didn’t matter WHO claimed rights, and it didn’t matter what he had to do … HE KNEW, and nothing was going to get in his way … Mystical, mysterious and rich with mythological ambiance “Sins of the Soul” had me gasping, fighting to hold onto MY emotions as I listened to this enthralling, surprise filled story of power, persuasion, love, lust, loyalty and betrayal. And, by surprise filled, I mean JAW DROPPING surprise filled! There is no way I can give ANY plot details without divulging huge spoilers so I’ll just leave it at “headphones required”, and make sure you have a nice, comfy, quiet place where no one will bother you! You will want to let this deep, action filled, beautifully detailed story completely consume you as you get to know the fabulous characters crafted by our amazing author. They are all, without exception, richly defined, and multifaceted. I found myself having deep feelings about some as the story developed! Lokan Krayl, soul reaper and youngest son of Underworld god Sutekh, has been murdered. His death has rocked his brothers, incensed them, infuriated them...confused them. Lokan, like his brothers, are demigods. It isn't supposed to be possible for them to be killed.

His death has changed...everything.

Alastor, second son of Sutekh, is of one mind with his remaining brothers. Find Lokan's remains. Locate his Ka - his soul. Bring. Him. Back. Oh yeah...and find the person or persons responsible for this travesty and make them pay in ways not even Sutuekh himself could dream. Screaming and bleeding and dying in agony not optional.

They've followed every lead they've found, discovered alleged conspiracies, uncovered a traitor, and while some of the information that has come to them is shocking, they haven't found what they need to find, and for Lokan, time is running out. That could be why Alastor is less than thrilled when he tracks his latest lead to a cemetery in the middle of nowhere just in time to see a surly Naphré Kurata burying the man.

Naphré wasn't having a good night. Her mentor, the man who trained her to be the assassin she is, admitted to accepting a hit on her and she was forced to kill him when he carried through with the attempt. Disregarding the pain of that betrayal and loss - sometimes life was just that ugly - the fact remains that Naphré has no idea who wants her dead, or why. The badness doesn't come close to ending there, either. No, she's left with the unsavory task of disposing of the body, and no sooner does she get it buried than a soul reaper shows himself and makes her uncover it so he can get at the soul.

The reaper may be hot as sin in his thousand dollar suit, and definitely acts all mightier than thou about getting his own hands dirty, but Naphré has had just about enough of being everyone's bitch and doesn't hesitate to let Alastor know that she's not without her own set of claws, regardless of how ineffective they are against him. She's a former Daughter of Aset and a soul-pledged assassin in her own right and no amount of sexy is going to push her around.

Even with his grim task, Naphré's fiery nature turns his head, and Alastor has a hard time shaking off their arousing confrontation. When he returns the soul of the man who may know something about his brother's death to his father, though, Alastor gets the third largest shock of his very long life. The soul is forfeit and its information unattainable...unless he brings Naphré to the Underworld goddess who has claim on it.

Something very peculiar is going on in Underworld, and the shifting tides of betrayal and murder are making the ground beneath his feet feel like quicksand. Still, nothing is more important to Alastor than his brother. He'll do anything, pay any price, to get him back - even if he has to use the one woman in centuries who stirs a heart he thought doomed to solitude.

I have to be honest here, I'm not entirely sure why I love this series as much as I do. That's horrible for a reviewer to say, isn't it? Especially one who's never at a loss for explaining in often excruciating detail just what she likes/dislikes/loathes about a book and why. Be that as it may, this series works for me in ways that other more widely popular series don't, and though I know what I like about it, I still can't figure out why that makes the series as a whole so appealing.

There's no doubt that the world is highly creative and original, and I thoroughly enjoy the backstory of the characters and the mythos created for the brothers' existence and purpose. Still, the narrative is often repetitive (admittedly, less so in this book than in the previous one), as Silver has a habit of reiterating information and themes throughout the books as if to emphasize the significance of key points. That tends to annoy me; I'm a reasonably intelligent reader who is capable of remembering information from one page to the next.

I have issues with the series plot arc, too. It's been very convoluted since the beginning and heavily burdened by the myriad of characters that seem to have a vested interest in Lokan's death, all their conflicting agendas, and all the whispers of conspiracy. I wasn't thrilled with the lack of progression of the arc in this book, either. Too many new questions and shady connections were introduced, far too few answers or information revealed. The focus on Naphré's storyline and her dubious past further blurred the lines of the investigation for me instead of clarifying it, and for an arc that was written as a trilogy, having the second book end with so few answers was a bit disappointing.

None of that sounds like it would warrant a four-and-a-half star rating from me, does it? I know. Those aren't small issues. And yet, despite them, I loved this book and I love this series.

Silver's strong, intelligent, kick-ass female lead characters totally work for me in every single facet. I loved Roxy in the first book, but Naphré is even better. I adore that she is an assassin - there just aren't enough female protagonists that are killers-for-hire in this day and age. These books definitely trend more towards the dark and sexual end of the urban fantasy romance/paranormal romance spectrum, and I dig that because that's where you find these sorts of gray-area heroines that I find so appealing. She's not a total badass, though. Naphré definitely has her own quirks and peccadilloes. The hand sanitizer alone made her easy to relate to - it humanized her.

And pair a completely appealing heroine up with a delicious alpha male like Alastor, toss a few soft spots or quirks into his character (age-old trauma works nicely...so does a penchant for English toffee - and don't even get me started on the yummy accent), making you want to both ravish him and comfort his physical and emotional wounds, then add a healthy dose of witty, humorous banter (especially tongue-in-cheek...I'm a sucker for tongue-in-cheek humor) and you've pushed just about every one of my happy-reader buttons. I can forgive a fair amount of technical and/or story issues if two eminently likable characters have chemistry that is smokin' hot, emotionally powerful, and in charge of the story. As it was in this book. It also helped that the romance arc between Alastor and Naphré was far more thoroughly and satisfactorily developed than the one between Roxy and Dagan in the first book.

Maybe I've been wrong about myself all these years. I've always thought I was a carefully objective reviewer who weighed every facet of a book before putting forth a judiciously chosen rating that accurately reflects not only what I felt about a book in its entirety, but what I thought about it as well. But maybe that's not the case, after all.

Maybe I'm just a total 'ho for the romance.

This book follows on from the cliffhanger ending of the first book, we’re hot on the trail of the people responsible for the death of Lokan Krayl. His brothers are devastated by his loss and will do anything to find his soul and body, in the hope to reunite them and bring him back.

Alastor is following up some leads when he meets Naphre Kurata. Given that the formula is similar to the first installment of the series, Krayl brother meets hot warrior woman, I was delighted to see some pretty significant differences in the protagonists this time round.

One difference that I particularly appreciated was that both characters have some neurotic quirks, like germ phobia and control issues, caused by their pretty messed up histories. This contrasts nicely with the ‘we’re badass and can take on anything’ couple of Dae and Roxy. Naphre and Alastor are both scared of what they feel for each other but come together anyway, which is a winning formula for me.

As Alastor spent the beginning of his life being raised by a noble family in England, his character is British in his mannerisms – this was great up to a point but I feel that the ‘bloody hells’ and ‘wankers’ was a bit overdone given that we don’t really go around saying those things all that much.

Though the main thread of this story didn’t cover as much ground in the main conspiracy as the first book, there was action aplenty and some bold new characters were introduced. My favourite of which had to be the Japanese death goddess, she was the embodiment of all that is creepy but her calm rationality was really interesting to read.

I’m dying to read the next book in this series, presumably the third surviving brother will be finding the woman of his dreams and I am so very, very down for that.

This is the second book in the series and continues to be great! It is nice to read a series in the supernatural realm that is different from all of the others. I've always had a fascination with Egyptian history, pharaohs, and gods, so these books hit the mark. This book is about Alastor Krayl and Naphré Kurata. Alastor and two of his brothers are still trying to find out what happened to their brother Lokan who was murdered by a cultish group honoring Sutekh the God of Chaos and father to the four soul reapers. All three brothers have a goal of resurrecting Lokan, which requires them to find all of Lokan's body parts and his Ka before he partakes the food of the dead. I will say how much I enjoyed Alastor which may be due to the fact that another genre I love is Regency romance. Alastor was "born" into English aristocracy 300 years ago and it really colors his view of the world, although he has tried to keep up with the times. The choices he makes throughout the book get him in trouble and provide a great deal of angst for himself and Naphré. Naphré Kurata has trust issues which stem from her mother (a daughter of Aset) leaving her husband and daughter behind when she was a child to do her duty. It also doesn't help that the mentor you have worked with for years as an assassin takes a contract to kill you. Anyone who enjoys the paranormal will enjoy this book, oh and it has a little romance, too.

I enjoyed this book but not as much as the first. I really wanted Dagan's story to continue as the main theme with his brothers helping him. Alastor was ok but I didn't find him sexy at all. I think this had something to do with his way of speaking. I know he was brought up with human English parents but in a posh environment where only London was mentioned and who wouldn't have used the words 'pet' 'shag' or 'blimey' - they really grated on me. Considering he was now 300 years old, this would have worn off by now. I liked Naphre very much. As feisty as Roxy in the previous book but let down by Alastor with all he kept hidden from her. Dagan only appears very briefly but when he does...wow! Goosebumps!
I wont continue with the rest as this as it will just carry on with the next brother Malphus and him meeting his new love and trying to find his brother Lokan.
The reviews are good for this but sadly not for me.

Loved This Book So Much :)

Alastor is awesome :) i loved reading his book , i feel so bad for him because he never got a chance to say goodbye to his human family , so now he tries not to care about anyone except his 3 brothers but somehow Naphre slips past his walls and he ends up falling in love with her .

Naphre is killer (No pun intended ) she's such an interesting character & i loved learning about her and her past , about how she sold her soul to a demon to save her father and in turn became what she never wanted to be which is a killer ,but she also has a moral code ,she doesn't kill someone unless they deserve it.

Omg i loved the constant witty banter between her & Alastor ,they are both Sassy and Sarcastic and i loved every second of it :)

I love this series so so much , i am so happy that i decided to read it :)

4 Stars... The second installment to the series picks up exactly where the first book ended but focuses on Alastor and his love interest Naphre... The search for Lokan’s murderer continues as more secrets are unveiled and twisted relationships unmasked... All is not what it appears and time is of the essence to save Lokan’s soul... As Alastor’s and Naphre’s story unfolds, connections between the Daughters of Aset and Sutekh’s followers is revealed and a prophecy is unveiled... Who is the mastermind behind it all and what is their ultimate endgame?... I enjoyed Alastor and Naphre; both carried past pain and personal obstacles but each demonstrated an inner strength and loyalty to one another... Each connection for these brothers ultimately brings another piece of this larger puzzle together... Looking forward to Mal’s story and the secrets revealed.:)

I wish I could tell you I enjoyed this as much as the first book. But I can't. There was more paranormal, more action, more myth. Seemingly more of everything in the prior book. This just left me disappointed.

So with Naphre, we are introduced to a new mythological character and Underworld territory. Unfortunately, her full backstory doesn't really unfold until the end of the book. By that time, you've been flipping quickly through pages just hoping for more to the storyline. We met Alastor in the previous book. There wasn't much that drew me to him as my hero.

Not the worst read, but if you start the series with this book, you're unlikely to want to read the rest of the series.

I enjoyed the characters. The pace is fast moving and there is a significant story in addition to the romance between the main characters. The romance between the main characters is complete within this book but the story arc continues across the series and you should NOT start with this book. I don't believe that the story will feel coherent if you have not read the first one. I personally hate cliffhangers and, given the engaging style of the author, won't start any of her series without the last one being released, as it would frustrate me. Since all the books were out and I could just keep going, this was great.
