Similar to the Five Silly Monkeys book by Steve Haskamp this book would be ideal in a lower elementary classroom to introduce counting backwards and also as a good "hands on" book for students who are still struggling with the concepts of numbers or just need the kinesthetic experience to really understand the material. The Ladybugs are 3D and with each turn of the page a bug disappers and can be "felt" no longer. This book would be a great way to merge math with language arts and allowing the kids to make a prediction about what is happening to the ladybugs everytime a new animal comes. They'd be in for a real surprise at the end when they find out. I highly recommend Five Little Ladybugs. A good extension of this activitiy would be for hte kids to get their own lady bug manipulatives and start at different numbers and show how they would count back with them.
This little book taught my daughter to count! By the time she was two she was counting to ten and loving it! Not only can she count, but she can read numbers, too. In addition to being educational, the colors and art work are great and I love how the little lady bugs are 3d. If you're not into lady bugs, there are other versions out there...but who doesn't love a little ladybug?!
This is the book Nathan wants to read ALL THE TIME right now. He keeps grabbing it and shoving it in my face. Noah is also enjoying it. Both of them like counting the ladybugs (Noah out loud, Nathan in a grunting fashion and then he grins at me). It's cute enough and thankfully no real harm comes to the ladybugs (this would be hard on me).
This book is counting lady bugs. I love that the book has raised lady bugs so that children can feel them. This book and very bright and colorful so it will keep children engaged. This is a great book to help children start counting.
12 months - came in a pack of three of the same style book. I think we now own five variations of these subtraction books. I would say own one and make it a bigger book that counts down from ten. These get boring and redundant if your child is quick to pick up numbers and their order.
Five ladybugs disappear one by one in this countdown board book.
This board book counts down from five to one using raised ladybugs and a cutout construction. Young readers will enjoy the sensory experience of counting the ladybugs by touch.
Cute book, although the number of ladybugs decreases so it seems like they are getting eating by the bigger animals. (They show all the ladybugs at the end.)
I love this book for the rhyming, the ladybugs, and it's length. Finley loves it too- and liked the handpuppet it came with- well, liked the cardboard inside the handpuppet anyway!
