An excellent resource on receiving and giving God's love for men, this book seems to consider women's issues anecdotally and then mostly from the man's point of view. That's not a terrible crime (as reflected in my rating) because few similar books written by women understand, let alone adequately address men's issues.
Good use of both scripture, testimony and personal experience. Better written than the newer Spiritual Slavery to Spiritual Sonship.
Men, if you're only going to read one Jack Frost book, read this one. The ladies, unfortunately, will need to look to someone like Lisa Bevere.

Easy to read, but challenging to implement. A necessary and beautiful shift toward what many conservative Anabaptists have not experienced - Father’s embrace. There is some potential for this to be completely revolutionary for some men who have had distant fathers and realize they themselves may be walking in those same paths.
Women are left a bit in the back of the intended audience, not explicitly excluded, but likely not connecting as well with this book as guys will. I think he could have written it to a more gender-neutral reader without sacrificing much. Maybe it’s just a reflection of the turn of the century era when this book was written. For these reasons and because they’ll identify with the author’s generation, my dad’s generation will love this book and it could feel dated to Millennials and younger.
I also think he fails to explain the tension between Father’s unconditional love and how my sin and willing turning from him affects my ability to receive that love. Also how with continued turning away, we will eventually experience the Father’s judgment and wrath. It’s a necessary emphasis shift toward God’s love that many of us need, but without a great explanation of how sin affects this.
Regardless, I still highly recommend!

1. List two strengths and two weakness/points of disagreement that you have with this book.
Strengths of the book include:
1) It makes you evaluate your love for God because without that all other love fades away; and
2) It explains through story and Bible versus how much God loves us, and the breakdown of the family as we moved away from God’s love hit the nail on the head.
Weaknesses of the book include:
1) The author’s point that major events in one’s life should be discounted rather than the moment-to-moment philosophy of serving God. While I agree in general with this, I do think that there are specific major events that happen to us that wake us up, almost like God is showing His hard love for us through those moments. While He didn’t cause them to happen, He does know that we will likely seek him more; and
2) Repetition is good, but overly used can be a barrier for growth. I think this book has a little too much repetition throughout without staying focused on the key points, though I enjoyed it very much.

The author was trying to create a sense of the need for God’s love just like God desires our love. Without our love for God, all other love will fade.

This book focused on the Father’s love. Without loving Him with all of your heart, we are lost in a dark world.
4. How did this book directly impact you as a revivalist?
As a revivalist, I want to spread the love of Jesus to others. However, I can’t do this until I first love Jesus with all my heart. I must also remain humble throughout my life as I serve God, as Jesus served as well. After this has been fulfilled, though this is a lifetime ordeal, then can I bring Christ to others.

Jack Frost poured out his heart in this book in such a real, raw, and transparent way, it captivated me as I was able to relate to the words written on every page in a way I was not expecting. Frost takes you on a journey from revealing Father God’s love by explaining how you were created to experience God’s love and embrace, to listing out certain ways or thought patterns that may currently be hindrances for you to experience Father’s love, and he concludes the book by sharing how you can process this information and Father God’s love. Throughout this book, the main point of how God radically loves you and pursues you despite what your past circumstances may be leading you to think and how we were created in His image to live in deep daily intimacy with Him is found at the turn of every page. This book has such a unique way of making you feel seen and that you aren't the only one who ever had those thoughts you were too ashamed to admit. As you read this book, Frost’s raw transparency and clear depiction of his own story and shortcomings, and as he shares his witness of how he found Father God’s embrace you will undoubtedly find yourself convicted of sins you have committed against love in your own life. Some you may have already known but would never want to outwardly admit, and others will come as a shock to you how you never realized how it was all intertwined and the sin would keep you in a constant spiral leaving you feeling disconnected from Father God’s love. It was filled with so many "aha!!!" moments for me. This book is rich in content and gives you practical steps, walking you through specific prayers, and practically holding your hand in such a loving way toward repentance. After reading this book, you will find a revival taking place in your heart as you begin to receive a true conviction of your sin and cry out to God for His forgiveness, mercy, and grace. In doing so, you will be met with a gift as you experience Father God’s sweet embrace that has always been there.

Ever feel like struggling in your Christian walk? In the beginning it feels lightweight and colorful, but as the months and years go but Christianity becomes rather heavy and like a chore? Well this book goes through this and so many other struggles in the Christian life and brings us back to the heart of the issue. Have you had a revelation of the Father’s love for you? God is not mad at you. Even if you have sinned. He is not an angry God in the sky waiting for you to mess up. He has dealt with your sins already on the Cross and now there is no more condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus! Yes you may have failed and sinner, but get up, pick yourself up, clean the dust on your knees and fall back onto God’s love. He is you Father. He is waiting to love you. He is so excited about your homecoming and even when you’re still far off He will come running to you to receive you in his arms and throw the biggest party! Understanding God is not mad at you, but he loves you! That, will change everything about a person! New believer or old believer, doesn’t matter, this book is an essential! What a blessing was to find this author, Jack Frost! And what a Good Father do we have! Thank you Jesus!❤️

Primarily a book for men, there's still value here for women.
Jack Frost had a terrible father and threw himself into a life of fishing and becoming number one in his chosen pursuit on the sea. This was not only an escape and refuge from his childhood trauma but became his identity. That meant that even though he found forgiveness and a new life as a Jesus-follower, he had no idea how healthy relationships are formed and maintained. That became bad news for both his wife and his kids. When Jack became a Pastor/leader his default was simply to compete with everyone else to show how good he was in his field. Inevitably he became legalistic, joyless and brought huge hurt to his family. It also meant he missed out on the very heart of what it means to have a relationship with God – son/daughtership.
This book comes out of the things he discovered and the painful but ultimately liberating journey to live from intimacy: relationship not religion. It may be an eye-opener and key for some who are struggling with why living as a Christian can feel so joyless and difficult.

This was a fairly frustrating book. It is really repetitive and didn't seem to really be about *how* to "experience Father's embrace" but rather was just a continual loop of statements *that* it's important to do so...somehow...and a recitation of all kinds of spiritually destructive places you can wind up if you don't. The author sounded like he was desperately trying to convince himself that he had it figured out and had his relationship with God fixed for good and all. As an evangelical pastor he also insists on making up or reinterpreting terminology in his own weird way: always saying "Father" without "the" or "my" in front of it as we usually do in contemporary English, and definitely not consistent with older English; insisting that "soul" is about our bad ways of dealing with God and others while "spirit" is good; etc. I have no interest in more of this particular guy's attempts to either get me closer to God or sell books and feel better about himself.

Jack’s open honesty and explanations of the struggle between our outer man (mind, emotions, will, personality) versus our inner, renewed spirit in Christ, help me to discern who I am listening to each day...my old self or new. With that, my thoughts can more readily be taken to Christ, and correction spoken to my old self as I turn to walk in the Spirit of Christ living in me.
Becoming humble before the Father allows His Love to overflow into those around me. Increased intimacy and restoration of fractured relationships results when, through humility, I seek forgiveness where I have misrepresented Father’s Love to others.
Thank you, Jack, for this uplifting testimony of how to experience Father’s embrace. It has renewed me during a difficult season. God bless you and your family.

A 4th book recommended by my colleague. Although we have been on split teams for over a year now, somehow her recommendations have been inspiring and timely. All the books seem to have a similar theme, aside from carrying messages of what I need to hear the most during the time of reading. While this book got a little repetitive, I appreciate Jack's ability to use scripture in a non-judgmental way to encourage readers. I'm neither a devout Christian, nor a fan of the mega-church-ministry concept. Yet, Jack's suggestions reached me on a personal level, reminding me that our walk with God is a daily experience rather than a once-in-a-lifetime dynamic one that will change our lives. That's exactly what I needed to hear.

We all have filters we are working through when it comes to our view of God, especially in accepting Him as a Father. Our upbringing and life experiences have shaped our understanding and in many cases created poor definitions in our hearts of what a Father is. Jack Frost caught a revelation of God as Father that changed his life. In this book he does a brilliant job of sharing his journey and walking the reader through an inner healing of sorts. This process not only helps to redefine what a Father is but also creates a path for intimacy with God and experiencing His embrace. If you have struggled with the concept of God as a loving Father this book will most definitely help.

A solid, if not repetitive, book, definitely most helpful for married blokes. Does have a few beautiful passages though, so credit where it’s due.

I need only do what God asks-at every opportunity, commit myself to loving acts of humility before my family and others. Then God will do the thing He has promised. He will exalt me, in due season, into deeper depths of His humility and love. It can never be a performance thing. It is the positioning of our heart by entering into the lowly place.”

holy moly, this book! i was so challenged by the book to really let the love of God compel me towards others. i particularly loved his personal testimony & ultimate spurring on in loving primary relationships (family, and in my case my team as well) and OUT of that will come ministry opportunities naturally! i was shook & encouraged to run to my Father.
note - i think he wrote this primarily for men, there are plenty of marriage examples and conversations but at the end he specifically talks about different wives which was i guess helpful but kind of odd to me. just a good heads up to any female wanting to read this! 🙂

I can't say I love Jack Frost as a writer, or particularly the execution of the book as a whole. But it's undeniably a powerful message, with paragraphs here and there that just wreck you (in a good way) and make statements about the Father heart of God that just hit the nail on the head. Also, if nothing else, he totally changed the way that I look at the parable of the prodigal son, a parable I thought I'd heard preached to death now has new life breathed into it in a way that brings such freedom and release for me.

Humility is key
This book is an eye opening journey into the life of us all. Reading this as a "wounded wife " made me feel heard, appreciated & humbled me to understand the healing needed in my marriage. It gave me a fresh perspective into the heart of a orphan spirit. The afterword brought tme to tears & praise to my heart. This book is for anyone looking to build a closer relationship with Father GOD, your family & others. A must read to live a purposeful life with kingdom principles.

Very very good book talking about how God loves. While this is a topic that is often covered, it is not one that we can get too much exposure to. The approach that Frost takes in this book is super important as it covers growing from areas you have been hurt or have hurt and showing how those are not in the standard of the Love of the Father and then provides prayers and direction towards that kind of life. The bottom line of all of it is listening to Spirit guidance walking through interactions.

This book was a wonderful eye opener for me. Many of the areas covered within the pages read, told of problems I have been facing, over and over. Not much improvement in myself by methods and prayers I had been praying. Not only does the author go into detail about other problems caused by thought processes, but tells how to overcome, how move out of the cycle of pain by running to our Father's love. I am sure that I will be reading this book again.

It was a good book with many points that inspired be a caused me to pray more deeply. The one drawback I felt was that the book seemed to be written to middle aged men with families and a ministry. To much personal experience and not enough research in it to feel like the stories could really always apply to me.

This is an honest and sincere account of one man’s struggle to come to terms with the failings in his attitude and behaviour towards those he was closest to, and how he embarked on a journey towards transformation and recommitment to his family. It’s not a comfortable read but it does offer hope, and practical help.

Great book if you are seeking healing and repentance. Jack Frost is vulnerable with his personal story and how God's love changed him in the hope to help others experience Father's Love and be changed.

This is a great book about Gods love as a Fathers and how childhood experiences can hinder accepting this Love.

The foundation of being eternally loved by God must be our anchor if we are going to be who we are called to be. This is also the foundation of understanding the multi faced nature of Father. Love is His only motive even if we don’t always understand His actions.

This is the absolute best book I’ve ever read on the Father’s love!! It will blow you out of the water and totally change& heal how you see your Heavenly Father. We tend to put God in a box, but Jack Frost totally paints Him outside the lines, in the best way. This was a life-changing book.
