More of a 4.5 I think.
It’s quite different from the cdrama in many aspects but I enjoyed the book a lot too. I especially liked that the main couple’s family life was explored a lot more in the book. The book does have too too many characters to keep track of, which got a lot confusing, but the important ones were pretty interesting in the book, albeit a lot different from Blossom.
Overall, a nice change of pace for me reading a cnovel after a very long time. Definitely made me wanna read more.

In Jiu Chong Zi (Nine Layered Purple / Nine Fold Purple / Deep Purple / Blossom), Dou Zhao finds herself regretful on her death bed of the way that her life has turned out. Given the chance to relive it all and makes changes, she encounters Song Mo, who was a frightful figure in her past life though they did not know each other personally. However, in this new life, fate has intertwined the two. Can Dou Zhao avoid becoming entangled in Song Mo's future? Or will she find what she's been missing in him?
As someone who watched Blossom first, the differences between the book and the show are wide, but I think that that just makes it a better read. There were a ton of liberties taken for the film adaptation, but it enhances the story while also making sense for turning a 523 chapter novel into a 34 episode show.
My only issue was really how young everybody was. Dou Zhao and Song Mo are almost too capable for their ages, but it's not too much of a surprise in-text. Also I didn't like that Dou Zhao rebirth was a whole mystical thing in the show (and Song Mo and Ji Jianming are actively in it with her), but she tells not one soul in the book. It's a solitary experience, and pretty much the ONLY fantastical thing about the story.
Ultimately I enjoyed it, and will probably go and read this author's other books.
If you like Rebirth, Marriage of Convenience, and capable young people, this one is for you.

9/30/24 oh. man. Ok so 😅 I actually had to look back at the first few paragraphs of C1 to remember this - with her trash ass ex and ML not appearing till like chapter ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN - but it was really good. Still don't know how TF the drama will cover even a fraction of this 523 chapter book with only 34(?) episodes... 🤷🏻♀️ especially since there's SO MUCH going on. Omg SO MUCH. Like ... not ... that that much is even filler.

Really interesting engaging story, lots of interesting side characters and grey family. I liked that even for FL things that looked shiny and good... weren't so much - like when ML asks her "why struggle with your family - being with me will be much better and easier." >.> only it kinda was ... but wasn't what with his evil dad and half brother. Damn.
Still! He was so love with her! <3 And I LOVED how - ugh so many goddamn misunderstandings before she REALLY agreed to marry him - or even consider it - BUT! once she was in they were all in and I loved it. Our awesome work together couple.
I can definitely see myself re-reading this book ... but *sigh* wish another site would pick it up/actually translate it instead of slap up really mediocre/barely edited MTL.

I actually watched the cdrama first starring Li Yun Rui and Meng Ziyi then decided to read the books as well. I bought all the physical books and it's a newer version than this one and it contains 6 books.
The cdrama were amazing. I gave it a try because of the director and now I have found two actors whose chemistry I really really like. The novel covers more of Dou Zhao's first life and there are more relatives to keep count of. The drama significantly shortened this part a lot and went right to the storytelling. The core plot is the same though and I actually liked both media format.
Dou Zhao and Song Mo's relationship were so beautiful! The way they are willing to ride or die for each other, the way Dou Zhao fell for Song Mo little by little after their marriage was a sight to see.
Song Han, the little brother, was even more despicable in the novel than in the drama and I couldn't stand him. Both of their parents (the dads) stayed awful and could compete for the worst dad of the year. Overall, I loved the books and it didn't disappoint!

I can’t make comparisons to the Cdrama because I have not seen it. it does remind me of the Cdrama The Story of Minglan. The details are intricate. The number of characters are numerous. I am satisfied with the novel even with a flood of details before the story picked up energy.
It’s worth pushing through the early slower paced subplots to get to the action, intrigue and suspense in later chapters.
The novel shows the burdens of trying to survive with foes both inside and outside the complex noble households. It’s a coming of age story for the MC and other young nobles. Knowledge from rebirth aids the MC a bit too much. It still worth reading. 5/5

After watching the cdrama Blossom starring Meng Ziyi and Li Yunrui, I decided to read long novel. This one month, I am enjoyed by reading novels
九重紫 Nine Purple over 500+ chapters. What an interesting reading adventure.
Zhi Zhi's novel 九重紫 Nine Purple has a slight difference in storyline from the cdrama series Blossom. But that doesn't detract from the essential essence of the characters and the core of the story of Dao Zhao and General Song Mo.
We are invited to see the story of Dao Zhao who returns to her childhood after getting tired of the household polemics of the noble family. Little Dao Zhao returned and wished to save her mother. She also wanted to live as she wished peacefully without having to be constrained by the rules of the hypocritical noble family.
Stories about slides of life, strategies to deal with others, the politics of noble and royal families, early matchmaking and the life of ancient nobles.
Did Dao Zhao get her wish? How was her encounter with the intimidating and powerful General Song Mo?
I rate it 4/5 because the last big war lacked the combat action like in the spectacular "Blossom" series. The writer is better at writing love stories and strategies than the action scenes of war in writing.
