Adam Slater doesn't scare easily, which is lucky because his study overlooks a graveyard. He has a degree in Folklore and an unhealthy love of horror films, both of which helped to inspire The Shadowing books. If he wasn't a writer - and if his girlfriend would let him - he'd be a stunt driver.

"It is coming"
These are the words left near murder victims and a message for the main protagonist a
"I can see dead people!" kind of teenager.
Callum has the gift to see the dead, he can't communicate with them but see them, he discovers new abilities and treads new territory with fears, his whole supernatural world is about to get ever so more sinister. There is talk of the Netherworld another domain where creatures live, monster-like, demons who should not be allowed to enter your threshold expect if invited in.
Callum can foresee future events and he helps prevent accidents, he is soon to find out that there are others like him and one by one they are being killed off my an evil Hunter of the Netherworld.
This was a fun read of the supernatural kind and this novel sets up a foundation for a promising series where the main protagonist Callum is an interesting character who can sense evil, has the power to see the dead, resist magic and foresee future events.
One should glide through this easy read, written with a visceral feel. If there is a problem I have, it is that the ending events could have been written with more complexity and the story could have been made longer.

Hunted, the first in The Shadowing series, is one book I wasn’t too sure about reading. I’m not the biggest fan of the cover, and the premise didn’t really sound like something I would personally enjoy. However, Hunted ended up surprising me in some big ways, because not only was I fully enchanted by the world presented, but I also adored nearly every scary yet delicious second of it.

Hunted starts just about how every other scary movie does: with the POV of the “bad guy”. However, it was the perfect way to start the book, in my opinion, because it managed to capture what the book would be like: frightening and eerie yet entertaining.

One of the ways that held true was through the plot. Adam Slater presented an interesting idea involving mythology as well as the supernatural with “The Shadowing." I really enjoyed learning more about it through the plot events as well as the challenges and dilemmas Callum faces throughout, especially when it threw some chilling twists and turns my way with not only change of events but also the switching of POVs.

Moreover, I really enjoyed the characters in this one, even though they weren’t the best developed or original. Callum was a likable protagonist, especially given the fact that he wasn’t the scared main character usually involved with scary books. Instead, Callum was almost dauntless, facing every problem thrown his way head on. I also enjoyed the addition of Callum’s grandmother, who managed to twist the books in some great ways as well, and the group of friends Callum managed to build up throughout Hunted.

Adam Slater’s writing was also decent. It wasn’t the best out there, but I really enjoyed the tone as well as voice he used in this…it felt almost like I was reading a movie screenplay in some ways, which was cool. Better yet, I loved the little twist he threw at the end, even though it means adding yet another sequel to my wish list.

In all, don’t let the cover of this one keep you away like it almost did to me, because Hunted is a great book, especially for fans of YA horror.

The Shadowing: Hunted
By: Adam Slater
ISBN: 9781606842614
Expected Publication: September 13, 2011 by EdgemontUSA
Available Format: Hardback, paperback, ebook

My Rating: ★★★★★

Callum Scott is a teenage boy with some extraordinary abilities. Not only can he see ghosts, everywhere, but he also has some precognitive talents. When Callum starts to realize even the ghosts are frightened, he knows something strange is happening. Something dark and perilous is hunting him, and even more danger lies just around the corner. There is more to Callum than he thought, and the fate of the entire world may soon rest upon his shoulders.

I received a copy of Hunted through netGally for review.

I really loved this book. I loved the characters. I loved the plot. I loved it! My only complaint is there wasn’t more…

This is a fantastic YA horror/paranormal read. It is scary, but not too scary. It is gruesome, but not too gruesome. There’s a fantastic balance between the human relationships and the cold creepiness of the ghosts and the hunter. The story itself is a great twist on ghosts and demons. Slater has a nice, easy writing style, and the story is paced wonderfully. It’s also a very quick read, which is always nice!

Callum seems like just your ordinary teenager, and he handles his abilities so well, without seeming too nonchalant about them. Gran is a fantastic supporting character. She is so completely normal, but still has that little edge to her so you know there is something else going on. This is where I could have used a little more—I want to know ALL about Gran and Callum’s family and how they got to this point! I am really hoping the next book in the series, Skinned, delves a little deeper.

This is a good YA that will appeal to male audiences as well. There is enough horror and gore involved, and there really isn’t any romance, certainly no swooning, silly girls. The hunter is downright gross and evil, and it is great! The horror genre is really growing on me again, so I was fascinated with how this character played out. Even Jacob and Doom gave me the creeps, but I love how their part in the story developed.

Hunted will make your skin crawl, and you might even have a few nightmares, but you will love every second of it!

'The Shadowing' is chock-full of thrills and packed with enough creepy supernatural goings-on to keep you up all night. You'll most definitely have to read this book with the lights on!

I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive about reading this to begin with, as I'm not usually a fan of the horror genre. It's certainly not something that I would normally have picked for myself. It has the scariest cover ever! However, I'm so glad that I was sent a copy of this and gave it a go because it's a stellar opening to the series and has left me dying for more. I got sucked into the story and found it incredibly difficult to put it down as the suspense was unbearable. I couldn't go to bed until I'd reached the end.

The story centres around Callum Scott, a young boy who has the ability to see ghosts and who starts having strange premonitions which warn him about events to come. He lives with his Gran who is dismissive of anything to do with magic or the supernatural. When children start getting murdered, Callum may be the only one that can stop the strange creature responsible. But how can one boy stop a terrible evil?

Callum is a great central character as he seems so normal but has an incredible ability which may be the only thing that can save the human world from what lies on the other side. A little is told about Callum's family history but I feel like there's much more to come. I suspect a big secret could end up being revealed.

What I loved about 'The Shadowing' was that it was such a fast-paced and exciting read. Each chapter was full of thrills and spills and interesting plot twists. I had no idea what was coming next and spent most of the time on the edge of my seat. It had a stunning opening which really set the tone for the rest of the book and a fantastic ending which was jaw-droppingly brilliant.

This book will appeal hugely to a male audience who are looking for the next big thing in this genre but that's not to say that females won't love it too. I did! There are a couple of bits which made me a bit squeamish as Slater doesn't hold back from the gore-factor, so I probably wouldn't recommend this to very young readers but those who are slightly older will lap this up.

I'm eagerly anticipating getting my hands on 'The Shadowing: Skinned' which is the next book in the series. Who knows what's coming next!

Predictable can be good too, it just needs strong imaginative writing to support it. A good plot can only save so much.

And such is the case of Callum Scott in Hunted. The premise is familiar in itself, a boy born with special abilities tries to ignore them and pretend he's normal. Then something happens that makes him face the extraordinary side of himself and he embarks on a journey to the unknown - unknown called Netherworld in this case. He gains friends and allies and finds out about his mission in life - the one he was born fulfil.

The concept of a chime-child is new to me, but I quite like the idea. Especially when it's coupled with a young male protagonist. And written in third limited. I swoon. I've read way too many romance centred books about girls who obsess over boys written in first and this was like breath of fresh air.

I just wish the male author hadn't discarded the sense of romance completely. At least it would have made a great distraction for when Gran finds Callum and Melissa alone in the cottage flushed and breathing heavily.

"Snogging were you? Aren't you a bit young for that." I was fully expecting to read that line, but no, Gran immediately jumps to protect her precious books. Not only doesn't her reaction make me as the reader suspicious, it makes Callum look more thick-headed than he has the right to be.

Rest of the plot, however, falls into place smoothly. Unfortunately, that's about it. The writing is just good enough to support the plot, but it doesn't exactly elevate it to something exceptional. I've recently read few very well written and plotted books, so I can tell the difference even if I'm not able to argue why. All I can say that with the obvious repetitions - like the word "corridor" repeated unnecessarily in two sequenced sentences - and quotes like "Now he was trapped. Or was he?" the author indulges in wooden and dumbed down text way too often for a work that's aimed for the adult audience.

Still, I liked the book well enough and hope that whatever issues I had with the writing are resolved before the sequel.

The Shadowing Haunted by adam Slater

1.What is the author's purpose in writing the book?

Adam Slater presented an interesting idea involving mythology as well as the supernatural with “The Shadowing." He wanted to attract the younger population with this book. The author does something that has been lacking in Young Adult fiction lately – he brings in supernatural creatures that aren’t “mainstream”. You won’t find vampires or werewolves here! Instead we’re talking Grims, Chime Children, and the Born Dead – all creatures that even those that are versed in the occult will have a problem identifying.
2.What is the theme of the book?

The theme of the book,is that people will always do everything for people they love, like Callum did for his Gran. That you should never show fear to the enemy, and that never think that someone is better than you.
3.What syle was this book wrritten in and is it effective?

The writing style is narration, and it was very effective. It gave a dramatic effect to the book.Suspense is built effectively throughout the story and it was very scary and that was the point of this novell.
4.What is your opinion of the book?

To book kept my attention from the beginning,it captured my imagination. The spooky story, the mystery, the atmosphere it didn't let me to stopp rading.I really enjpyed the characters esspecially the main character Callum.I like to read about mysteries an imaginary creatures so this book was very good choice.

I decided to start reading this book the night before school started. That, dear readers, was a big mistake! Not only could I not put the book down because it was so fascinating, but I was also scared out of my mind! I have not been this creeped out in a long time, and while I absolutely LOVE this novel, I do not recommend reading it right before bed. I ended up “sleeping” with the lights on, but didn’t find much sleep at all, which, of course, made for an interesting school day the next morning…

But aside from choosing the wrong time of day to read this novel, it is a fantastic piece! I was captivated from page one. It’s a very creepy tale, and it definitely made my skin crawl on more than one occasion. I haven’t read such a great ghost story in such a long time, and it was both refreshing and shocking. While there is a little bit of blood and gore, I personally think it’s minimal and adds to the overall creep factor of the novel. I might not give this novel to any MG readers, but I think it is suitable for YA and above.

I especially love that the chapters switched back and forth, showing the hunter at work, and then moving back to Callum as he tries to figure out what is happening around him. And, while this novel does take place in the present, it has a very archaic feel to it...

Loved this story and I loved the fact that the main character, Callum, and his female friend, Melissa, don't have a romance ...... and I'm going to say yet, as it still may happen. It seems that every YA I read has to have some romance blooming or already happening between the main character and a best friend or possible enemy or complete opposite schoolmate etc, so it was nice to read a story that had two friends of opposite sex and not have an under running love story happening at the same time.

The story was really well told and well paced. It was mostly from Callum's POV but some wee chapters were from the Hunter's POV as well. I like how this series is going to turn out, it's going to be a different bad guy every book and I can tell that they're not going to be fluffy or light reading. The bad guy (maybe gal, you never find out) was quite terrifying to picture and from the excerpt I read of the next book, it's going to be the same.

In his grandmother's tidy cottage, Callum Scott is safe from the ghosts that he sees everyday on the paths of his small town. However, the ghosts have been disappearing as a new creature comes to town, a creature that eats the eyes of it's victims. Exploring his grandmother's books with the help of a friend, Callum begins to learn that his powers may be able to help him defeat the monster and prevent an even larger conflict from happening. Alternating between horror and the gruesome, Slater introduces an exciting new series. Callum is genuinely sympathetic, and the characters are well developed and authentic. The monster is creepy and shadowy, leaving readers to imagine the creature rather than splashing it over the page. For readers looking for a slightly toned down version of the Monstrumologist. - CS

The Plot - Callum is a teenager with some freaky gift. He can see ghosts. So far so cliché, right? Ok, but this is the least of his problems cose there’s a monster that is after him and all of those who are just like him. It’s called The Hunter and it kills it’s victims in a bloody way ripping their eyes off their sockets. Why? Well, that’s something to discover by reading the book. *evil laugh*

So, The Shadowing is near and evil is just around the corner. What are you going to do about it? Run and hide or stay and fight?

description

This plot kicks some ass and is scary as hell. I love it and it almost made me pee my pants with the ripping and tearing.

The Characters - Callum is this guy that lives with his gran and is so cute how the two treat each other with love and respect. She makes dinner and he makes the tea. They talk and share their day. Is all so cute and I really miss paranormal books that show this part of the characters lives. He is polite and reserved around people because of his secret and all. Is not very pop to say “I see dead people, all the time” as you may think.

description

There’s also Jacob, a ghost that appears to want to help Callum. With him comes Doom. No, is not actually Doom. That is the name of his doggy. Yep, he has a hellhound as a puppy.
If this wasn’t “help” enough, there’s also Melissa. A hippy/wika/weirdo girl that seems to know a whole lot of stuff about what Callum really is and what he can do.
All of them are strong in their own way and have a really important part in the story.

The Writing - It’s third person narration but it is told by 2 POVs. Callum’s and The Hunter’s. The passing, the way the things developed and the way it describe, oh, the way this guy describe makes me chill to the bones. I couldn’t blink for most part of the book. He doesn’t get cot in the little details, but the ones he do are wonderfully tell in a extremely particular way. You see through his eyes. I know, I know. The eyes are very important in the story. I didn’t mean to make a joke. But that was totally the way I felt. This guy, this guy. I’ll keep my eye on him.

description

Considerations - This author is sick. Really, really crazy and I have nightmares just imagining what kind of mind would come up with a story like this. The details, oh, I can’t say that enough. The way he describe the dark, the shadows, the emotions. I literally had nightmares with this book.

description

Imagine you can see ghosts. Scary, right? But then you start to have visions about bloody murders. Double scary? That’s right. Then, a ghost boy with a giant dog from hell appears on your door step telling about a danger that’s coming your way. Pee your pants yet? I sure have to change my panties after this revelation. Ok, so that’s it, right? Yeh, you wish. Gran has a,,, ok, ok,, no more. Go read the book to find out. This is too juicy for me to spill the beans like that. *Dr. Evil laugh*

description

I really love this book and I totally didn’t expect to even like it. The story was compelling and the ending, wow, let me wanting more but not in a terrible cliffhanger kind of way.
The best part is that I had a sneak a peak of the next book. I’m telling people, this is freaky-and-wonderfully-scare-you-to-death kind of book.

“The girl lies by the canal, her face turned upwards like a stargazer. But she will never see the stars again. Her eyes have been torn out. The rain fills the empty sockets until they brim over, spilling bloody tears down her cold, white cheeks..”

Hunted is a YA paranormal horror novel. This tale is told from the point of view of fourteen year old protagonist Scott Callum. Callum has always known he was different; he lives with his Gram in a small crammed cottage, sees ghosts and has amazing luck. He views himself as an outcast because of his abilities and keeps to himself. Experiences from his elementary school days, have kept him from sharing his strange gifts with anyone. Young people are being brutally murdered by the eerie “Hunter” and messages are being left in blood all over town. Strange things begin happening to Callum, the ghosts he normally sees at the Nether Marlock Church are no longer there, and instead the town is filled with even more ghosts than usual. He senses something evil is following him. He sees a strange ghost child with a huge grizzly dog and thinks they are the evil following him. He begins having dreams and premonitions. When he has a vision or senses there is danger, his hands tingle and go numb. At school, this occurs and he saves a new age Goth girl named, Melissa from death. Callum slowly learns that this quirky girl is brave, smart and not at all afraid of the supernatural. Callum and Melissa begin to search for clues about the large dog and ghost boy he has seen. Together they learn that Callum is a chime child. This is a child born beneath a full moon between midnight on Friday and the cockcrow on Saturday. They also learn that once every century, the boundary between the demon Netherworld and the human world weaken. Creatures gather, preparing to cross over, to bring death and destruction. This time is called The Shadowing. Callum must face who he is, what is hunting him, who his friends are and whether or not he wants to save the world.
The story started off slow for me, but once it took off I was completely engrossed. I loved watching Callum go from a slumped shouldered unsure teen into a more confident young man. I liked Melissa from the beginning, and wish I had been such a confident young woman in high school. The villain in this story, “the hunter”, gave me goose bumps. I wanted more details of the Netherworld, and I am hoping Slater satisfies this in the next book. The book contains a preview to the second book in this trilogy entitled The Shadowing: Skinned. This reader to intends see where Adam Slater will take this story next.

Fourteen-year-old Callum sees ghosts everywhere. He also experiences premonitions and has a strange sixth sense, which he calls his “Luck”, that alerts him to danger. These abilities, along with the fact that he lives in a tiny cottage with his grandmother, are the kind of thing that makes a teenager a prime target for bullies, so Callum does his best to pretend that he’s just like everyone else. Soon, though, things start happening that are out of the ordinary even for Callum, and he finds himself having to team up with a gothy-type girl from his school, a ghost boy and his enormous ghost dog to battle some supernatural nasties.

I don’t normally gravitate towards books billed as “young-adult”, far less so towards those of the paranormal variety. However, this one caught my eye and I thought I’d give it a go. I’m really glad I did, as I found Hunted to be a well-written and promising start to this series. The story was fast-paced, enjoyable, and quite a quick read. Author Adam Slater has definitely set the stage for all kinds of interesting things to come as the series progresses, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the second book, Skinned.

I received this book as a galley from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Callum Scott has always been able to see ghosts, but when the veil between the human and demon world lifts, he discovers that his destiny is to fight and protect those that are hunted.

In my opinion, if you are going to write a book about demons and paranormal warfare, it has to be done in a way that avoids some of the most obvious cliches. Unfortunately, this book did not accomplish that. I found the characters to be undeveloped and two dimensional At times, the jerky style of the writing seemed like it had first been a screenplay. The story idea is a good one, but I never got attached to any of the characters and I never really felt that the action in the story was urgent enough to make you want to find out what happens next.

In the end, I had to give this two stars. It just lacked the spark that usually ignites my desire read nonstop until the book has ended.

In Hunted, readers are introduced to 14-year-old Callum Scott, a normal boy in every aspect except for one. Due to a set of unusual circumstances, Callum has the ability to see ghosts. This power is nothing new to Callum... that is, until it begins growing stronger and bodies start piling up. Now, it is up to Callum and a unique cast of characters to thwart whatever evil is murdering these children and hunting Callum himself.

Hunted by Adam Slater presented an interesting plot, even if it did begin a little slow. However, as others have said, a quality story can only carry a book so far. Callum seemed to be a very two-dimensional character since readers were never offered any true insight into his personality. Melissa was rather enjoyable and I feel as though she was a valuable addition to this novel. Overall, this book was good, though nothing special.

When I saw the publisher’s brief synopsis of Adam Slater’s new novel, The Shadowing: Hunted, I was intrigued by the use of myth and legend in a YA paranormal horror story. In fact, I think it’s the use of myth that tips this over into horror. This is one scary book – intriguing concept and definitely scary. It’s the start of a great new series that teens and adults alike are going to enjoy while they shiver! Read the rest of my review at http://popcornreads.com/?p=1696

I was looking for something for my 12 year old son, and I think this fits the bill.
Pretty bland as far as character development, but there's plenty of spooky action to make up for it. There's also a bit of gore thrown in for good measure.
Oh, and it's relatively short.

This is a middle-grade reader, so I wouldn't recommend it for adults.

Great book! Had to take off one star for some slightly unbelievable things, like Callum forgetting something no one would ever forget in such a situation.
But I really loved it. There are no boring moments in the story and the scary parts are awesome. Some of them sent shivers down my spine and I caught myself holding my breath a couple of times. I'm looking forward to the second book!

The whole chime child, born dead and those unique ideas are what gets me hooked up!

"It is coming".
After hundreds of pages of reading is when I realized that phrase has a whole different set of meaning to it, as Callum Scott glides through the chapters and learn the truth about himself and his family (a bit). Some questions, I believe, were left unanswered for the sequel and I'm raging about it.
I still love the twist in the end and the more you dive into the story, the more menacing it gets.

The first page set the tone for the whole book, and the overall pacing is nice. Everything is well-connected. Its spooky, ghostly, and mysterious. Also gruesome, but I'm grateful it didn't add too much to my already troubled sleep issues. Still, I keep glancing out my window and doors when my cat suddenly stood still upon them, so there's the impact of it. A perfect balance. And I would even say its cozy? I think its because of Slater's fantastic description of the scenes and where it took place; Nether Marlock seems to have a spooky yet peaceful air to it. Oh and Gran and Callum's cottage? A dream.

Speaking of Gran, my favourite character, you know there's more to her right off bat but she's concealing so well that even in the end of the book, there were some things she left us questioning about. She has so many layers to her. Brilliant Gran. If there's one thing I love the most about this book is how our main characters have this edgy vibe to them. They felt real; secrets they kept and how they were different than the first narrations of Callum of them. The bond between Callum and Gran is so realistic and in-depth. Callum is wise, and reasonable; some times he's scared and choose to run from the danger and some times he run straight towards it. Melissa is, well, a bright spark in Callum's life. The Hunter though he was incredibly scary at first because rather than just chasing anywho, he plotted his hunts so well. But as Callum finally overcome his fear, the menacing description of the Hunter grows dull, and that's genius. The thought of Jacob and Doom themselves is already chilling, and they didn't have to hunt you like the Hunter to make you run scared.

The theme of mythical creatures and other-worldly abilities is clear, with lessons here and there about trust, opening-up to someone and self-confidence. But somehow I feel like there should be more, or maybe I just wanted more of the characters because they were so so well-written. So there goes a cut in my initial 5-star-rating.

I'm bad at recommending, so I'm just going to say I rarely pick up horror books but I keep wanting to re-read this book! (Time constraints, however. But you get the point.)
It is a really big surprise that I enjoyed this book this much.
I wish I can read it for the first time again! Can't wait to get a copy of the sequel.

Nearly a 5-star-rating, a 4.8 from me.

On the surface, this is a fairly standard ghost story involving a young teenager, one of many that you can find on the bookshelves today. Dig a little bit deeper and you’ll find a surprisingly disturbing tale, not just in regard to the supernatural but also the more brutal and tragic sides of mundane teenage life. From the image of a skinnless humanoid figure and bloody murders involving the removal of eyes, to violent bullying and a painful hidden family legacy, this book has a good deal to make teens and adults alike think hard.

The story itself is a fairly simple one, when you get right down to it, but it is still an interesting read, with some interesting takes on folklore and legends. His storytelling style is fairly smooth, though I often found myself picturing the characters as somewhat younger than they really were, due to the tone of the writing. It wasn’t quite a mesh, but was close enough that I can’t complain too loudly about it.

My only real complaint about this novel was the way some things were established without really being introduced first, so to speak, in such a way that it occasionally felt as though I must have blinked and missed a character’s name being mentioned. A perfect example of this is when Callum introduces his friend as a “translator”, somebody who can’t interact with the spirit world but who knows plenty about it. It sounds at first as though he’s using the word as a way to describe what she does, but immediately afterward it starts being used almost as a title, as though a translator is something that a person is instead of something a person does. Other characters just accept it, but to the reader it comes across as clumsy, like something got skipped over.

Other than that, Hunted is a quick and decent beginning to what I’m hoping will continue to be an entertaining series. I look forward to seeing what the sequel will contain.

I think you might think by the cover of the book and the words “Hunted” that this book is maybe about somebody running away from being killed or something else, but it really isn’t. In this review I am going to be telling you if I liked this book or not, and also a little a bit about this and that of “The Shadowing...Hunted”. I will try my best to not spoil this book for you but will give you some details about it.
This book overall is about ghosts. It’s really a mysterious book that could get you stuck in it and will make you read it till it’s done. This book is really a book version of ghostbusters where they go fight ghosts and capture them, but this time it’s by two kids. The main character of the story Callum Scott explains of how he has nightmares, and sees a creature taking kids away. Then his visions start coming true. Kids popping up in the news of being disappeared and some even killed. This book at that part really had me, I wanted to keep on reading to see what happens next. Later on the book it gave me goosebumps by just reading. How the creature was really something nobody wants to see ever in their life. This book was really about something that could maybe happen in real life. If you want to know what the creature was you should really read the book.
In my opinion this book was really good, I’d give it a 10/10. I would recommend this book to people who are into mysterious things and horror. If you’re not into the horror part then I would maybe not recommend this book for you. If you’re anxious to start reading this book then you should get going now.

HUNTED. The gateway of evil opens every 100 years-known as The Shadowing. It’s when not just ghosts roam around earth but also dreadful flesh-eating monsters. Only the Chime Children, born at midnight of a full moon, can protect us. But what if they were already butchered even before the The Shadowing begins? Except for 1 teenage boy from Malrock—Callum.

.
Follow Callum as he discovers his true identity and mission, and his adventures through the Marlock woods with his queer squad of a a witch-wannabe, Melissa, and a centuries-old ghost of a stillborn child, Jacob with his Grim, Doom.

I was avoiding to read this horror story because of its terrifying cover art. But since I was challenged to read a book outside my comfort genre (fantasy), I opted to read this one because it looks interesting. I was not disappointed though. It’s only a total of 275 pages but it took me 3 days to finish! LOL! For a scaredy-cat like me, it was enough scary to keep my lights on at night until I finished the book.
It’s like reading level up Goosebumps story. Well-paced plot and atmospheric setting.

I give it 3.5 gems 💎💎💎 for being delightfully frightening that I would like to read the sequel, Skinned.

Hunted (The Shadowing, #1) by Adam Slater, Callum Scott has seen ghosts for as long as he can remember, but it's getting worse. The Shadowing is about to begin and Callum doesn't know what to do. For me, it took reading about half the book to get into the story. After about halfway through, it gets really interesting and I started to get into the story. That being said, I did like the book because it was spooky and creepy there was this one part of the book it was in the begging and this little kid was killed by a ghost and the kid got his eyes torn out that part was spooky and I liked it. My favorite quote was this “The girl lies by the black canal, her face turned upwards to the sky like a stargazer. But she will never see the stars again. Her eyes have been torn out. The rain fills the empty sockets until they brim over, spilling bloody tears down her cold white cheeks.”. My favorite character is Mellisa because she knows all about supernatural stuff and she is helping Callum with his ability. My least favorite character is the hunter because he wants to kill Callum and he is an evil and scary spirit.

Did you know that The Fetch is an animal that hunts chime children? The Forgetting was a suspenseful book that involved a lot of mystery. It was written by Adam Slater. I gave this book all five stars because of the description the author used and how suspenseful it was.
The Fetch is a monstrous beast that runs around trying to kill the chime children. Gran tries to protect Callum when he was little but her magic grew weak while he became stronger. The main character, Callum, runs and hides constantly because he finds out he is one of the chime children. The Fetch has already killed quite a few little kids, kids that are innocent. Will Callum be the next?
The Fetch is ready to attack. He runs to Gran's cottage while Callum is out with a friend. The Fetch isn't just a regular beast, it's a beast that can turn into what you look like. This time he ended up dressing like Callum. The same fingers, the same voice, the same everything. Before Callum arrived home, the Fetch ran up to Gran's door and lifted up the brass knocker.
Jacob, a ghost, a little boy, came to Callum trying to warn him. Callum kept pushing Jacob out of the way because he just didn't care. Jacob kept telling Callum that he is in real danger. Callum sadly just doesn't believe him till it's too late.
I rated this book five stars because of how suspenseful and how mysterious it was. This book was called "The Forgetting" written by Nicole Maggi. This book was one of my all time books because of how great the author description was. He made it come to life and feel like it was real. I would totally read this book again if I could!

I was a little scared to read this at first but really enjoyed it. Horror mixed with a little fantasy. Quick easy read and I can’t wait to read the others in the series. Glad I found this at my local bargain store.

Callum can see ghosts but not interact. He’s been like this his whole life but now something else is lurking….

The mythology and history carry this otherwise predictable scare. Would have loved to hear more of the history of the past 'chime children', but I would be lying if I said it didn't bring in the spook every now and then. I guess there are more backstories to be dug in the sequels but this eerie introduction into the series is pretty much more than I expected.

Rating: 3⭐

my favourite characters are Jacob and Doom 😂

the story itself ain't bad. it's a.. children/teen read. Callum picked up at the end, and I like Melissa. I'd probably read the second book.. if I can find it 😂 it's a short read. it's not terrifyingly scary (well maybe it is for children), but it is a slight bit disturbing 😂

Is a good book. I would recommend this for those who love reading horror scary stories. Is really deep, you can imagine the scene as you go reading, can make you feel like you're the character in the book and feel your heart racing as you read the story. It was really exciting good book

A nice quick read that leaves you wondering at the end. The only thing that I wish the book had was a better background on the main character. It doesn’t give you much just kind of throws you into the story and you just left wondering with more questions than you are answered
