TARAL -- Laird Neil MacGreagor's bride was not happy in her marriage. She tried everything to compensate including turning her attention to making sure the fun loving Taral didn't marry the wrong man. But before Taral could have a proper wedding, affairs of the heart had to be set aside for a far more dangerous concern - a concern that threatened the survival of the entire clan.
RALIN -- He wanted nothing more than to die, but six months after he lost his beloved Kindel, Walrick found himself in a new land with people who wanted him to become their laird. After years of living next to a threatening neighbor, the extreme loss of life from the plague made the MacGreagors more vulnerable and falling in love much more difficult for Ralin. Would Neil find a way to save his people and would Walrick accept a challenge to lead the other clan?
STEPPEN -- Laird Neil MacGreagor did the best he could to save their lives, but now the MacGreagors were without a homeland. Then three different rumors began to circulate -- one started by the MacDonalds, one by the Fergusons and one by someone in the north. With Neil’s son in Steppen’s charge, she had no place to go and no one to turn to. She'd loved Walrick all her life, but could she ever forgive him for not coming back?
EDANA -- A new home meant new problems -- which laird would they follow, where would they build new cottages and how could Walrick marry Steppen when Neil forgot to bring the priest? Slade MacGreagor had problems of his own. Attempting to locate his clan in an unfamiliar land, he happened upon nine sisters who desperately needed his help.
SLAVA -- Slava had a secret and once she told her sister, Charlotte, all nine sisters decided to leave -- even the betrothed Edana. Jessup was ready to throttle a reluctant Lucas,
Taral was growing fonder of Geddes and Walrick finally had his priest. But when the sisters left, so did the singing and the hopes of several unmarried men. Would the sisters ever want to come back and if so, would the MacGreagors have to fight another clan to get them?

I started Marti Talbott's Highlander Series I three days ago. I finished it in one day. I immediately bought the second book for my Kindle (Highlander Series II) and finished that in one day as well. I just finished the third book (yes, Highlander Series III).
I CANNOT PUT THESE BOOKS DOWN!
The premise really is about one clan (the MacGreagors) who live close to the border of England during the 12th Century. Each book has four stories. Each story is about one character and their romance and flows easily into the next story. But, as the book moves on, all the stories weave into each other so the characters are all in the entire book. I rarely read books with short stories in them because I find that I just am getting into the characters and the story and it ends. This is not the case with these books.
These stories are character-driven and emotion packed. I have laughed and I have cried (which I almost never do with a book). Ms. Talbott truly brings you right in and you find yourself feeling a part of this wonderful family and wondering what is going to happen next. Following the family through love, tragedy, war, and plague (up to the third book), you are happy when they triumph and cry when tragedy strikes.
There are no hot and heavy sex scenes here, but I didn't even notice their absence. The books are not like what we are accustomed to in our "Highlander" books in the respect that they are not historically accurate. But, they are beautifully written fantasies and the romance is lovely. This is escapism at its best.
I purchased the first book for my Kindle on Amazon for $.99. A steal for such a wonderful book! The next books in the series for Kindles come in at $3.99 each.
A final word: When I was checking out the series on Amazon, I saw several ladies write in their reviews that you should be prepared to put aside any chores you may have, tell your friends you will talk to them in a few days and be prepared for several late nights. I laughed when I saw that and said "yeah, right." I should have heeded their advice!
I'm starting the fourth book today. I can see I will be accomplishing nothing again today! Ah, but what bliss! :)
These stories just get better and better. I love all so far. I absolutely loved the characters and the storyline so much. On to Book #4. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊

Oh my goodness! When I stumbled on the free book deal for the first book of this amazing series, I did not know what I was getting into. Books #1, 2, and 3 were bought and read in the same day, all chores and other tasks forsaken.
Though these are not your typical "Highlander" books, they will suck you in with their character-driven and emotion-packed stories. You will sink into the first story and rise up from your chair hours later, disappointed that your adventure with the MacGreagors ended so soon.
This series did surprise me. The first five books of the series are essentially short story anthologies, and I usually do not enjoy them as much as I enjoy full-length novels. But even though the story is about a different person, they are so interwoven that you feel like you are reading a full-length novel.
This is one book (and series) that you will be glad that you purchased. I guarantee that you will not want to put it down.
