This author has potential to be more and write more... Sadly, however, it took me a month to get through a book with only 20 stories because I just couldn't get into them. I couldn't get excited about them to WANT to keep reading. But, I pushed myself to finish because there are glimmers of some really good things in here. I hope he takes the time to further develop some of these into longer versions with more character and/or story development. He might do well. Of couse, this is just my opinion. Someone else might read these and enjoy them as they are. But, I thought it would be worth it to the author to bring up the idea of expanding some of these.

Day Trip:
This story was okay. It feels rushed and, althought it's a short story, it probably could be fleshed out a little more.

Forelorn:
I just didn't like this story. It just didn't seem all that horrifying to me.

Screaming Right To The End:
I enjoyed this story... including the ending. And, even though you know how it will end, your imagination is more than willing to run with it. There is promise here...

The Death Of Lester Williams:
I was enjoying this story; it was interesting and I started to get drawn in but then it just dropped me. It felt like there could have been more to write. Not a total loss but mildly disappointing.

Everybody Is Zombies:
A sad tale about the state of most American lives these days. Great analogy... comparing us (the living) to zombies. Not actually shocking or terrifying despite the implication of suicide as the answer but a very interesting statement on the reality of everday life.

August:
This story starts out awesome and I was liking the direction when suddenly it drops you. The ending is rushed. This story could be so much more. There is promise but it seems like the author gets bored or loses interest and just abruptly ends things.

When The Cows Come Home:
Weird. Borders on sci-fi. Not scary or frightening at all. Good for small children.

Hot Off The Press:
Very Twighlight Zone... Interesting but not doing much for me in the scary or horrifying dept.

Dark Side of Io:
This story was a melding of horror and sci-fi which was good. But again as the story got going, and I wanted it to keep going, it ended.

The Happiest Day of Her Life:
I guess most people would find this story horrifying on many levels but I didn't. There just wasn't anything special about it.

Zombie Tears:
This was interesting. Not horrifying... just interesting.

The Note:
Odd tale... unsettling.

Where The Baptized Drown:
Another interesting tale that only hints at the depth of darkness it contains. I think there is potential for more here... maybe stories about the other towns this preacher visited before his last?

Midnight In Oplontis:
I just didn't like this story... it just wasn't good.

Devil And Devil Damned:
Another interesting tale that only hints at the darkness it contains.

Interlude in Lombardy:
I enjoyed this tale. It is not gory or particularly scary in any way but it is well written. I could also envision it and felt myself transported to another time.

Born to Bring Trouble:
This just felt a little over the top. I didn't hate it but wouldn't say I liked it either. The story is just okay.

Walking Between The Rain:
I was bored by this story. I think it could be replaced with something better.

Terror In The Flare Lights:
Again, I was bored by this story. It lacks development; something to make me care about what's going on.

Killing Just For Fun:
This is just too short - even for a short story. Again, no development to draw me in and make me care.

All in all, I just found many of these to be too short; lacking development. But, as I said, there is potential.

pretty good stories all around, really compelling, gripping. The only complaint I had was that the ibook I bought had about six of the stories I couldn't read due to some weird font situation where all the words ran together. Otherwise, I highly recommend this book.

Wanted to update this review to say the ibook version has been fixed, so my only complaint is no longer valid.

Another great collection of short stories that are not the average hum-drum horror stories. There are some surprises in here and they are very enjoyable. Good quick read.
