This work is dedicated to adaptive signal processing. It lays down the foundations for the adaptive detection of a random signal of unknown statistics buried in a non-stationary background also of unknown statistics. This procedure is based on a set of examples of the received signal that are representative of the environment.
Simon Haykin was a Canadian electrical engineer noted for his pioneering work in Adaptive Signal Processing with emphasis on applications to Radar Engineering and Telecom Technology. He was a Distinguished University Professor at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
