Nobody's perfect. Every day, some guy forgets his wife's birthday, some schmuck drives his Corolla into the Lexus in front of him, and some mother forgets to make cupcakes for her kid's school bake sale. But you'll never sweat the small stuff again. This book gives these denizens of disaster a major self-esteem boost by detailing 220 of the world's most easily avoided catastrophes, such
Pretty decent history spanning a century as more of major screw ups that could have in most cases been avoided. Although tragic and perhaps could be perceived as morbid in some regard dependant on the screw up the book basically states the facts that regardless of the tragedies there was almost always some moron to blame and usually rightfully so. I’m reading another one of these books at the moment too and amazingly nothing has been repeated from book to book.
I really like the idea behind this book, 220 of history’s most regrettable moments. After all, people that don’t remember history tend to repeat it. The book chronicles 220 one page stories throughout history. Each story is told with much humor and sarcasm. The problem is that after reading tragedy after tragedy, disaster after disaster, I found the sarcasm no longer funny! I also feel that the authors missed a few important events and added way too many irrelevant sports entries. Even with these problems I have to say that I found the book very interesting and worth the read. I would like to see other history books from these trivia authors.
I feel as if it has been a long time since I have read something that delivers exactly as expected. This little book does exactly that, in a very big way. Granted, it is not necessarily high art literature, or even a concise narrative...but certainly a page turner, and a mildly amusing one at that. Strongly recommended for the lover of the arcane.
This was both amusing and interesting. There were times that the history geek in me was like 'Wait! There's more to it than that! You're completely ignoring the context and simplifying it way too much!', but it was still a fun read.
I was frustrated that half the stories were of joeschmo's dying to stupid mistakes. If I wanted that, I would have read the Darwin Awards :( entertainly written though!
