About the author

Simon started drawing cartoons at an early age and went to study Graphics and Animation at De Montfort University. He has a great interest in British wildlife, painting, the great outdoors and of course cats. He now works in London as an animator and director at Tandem Films.
Simon lives in Bedfordshire with this three cats: Hugh, Maisie, Jess and Teddy.

beyond the fence

I loved this one too. I love the recurring characters and objects. This is my third book and I hope to read more. These make me smile and nod; as well as laugh out loud. The yard gnome has become a favorite. He’s a character ! Lots of critters are. Simon’s hilarious, but he is no saint.

Anyone who is owned by a cat should read this book of wonderful cat cartoons. This book is a follow up to Tofield's first book: Simon's Cat. The cat is back....and hilarious. Simon's cat fights with other cats, stalks birds, eats bugs, spills the litter box, battles tape and other situations that will make cat owners chuckle and nod their heads.

The artwork is cute, and arranged in the book to be like a story. Not every page is a rip-snorter, but every page is cute, with some being uproariously funny.

As the resident housekeeper for 4 lovely felines, and a constant stream of foster kittens, I really identified with this book. Several times I had to laugh out loud as one of my cats had done the very thing depicted in the cartoon. For example, my cat Chester loves to eat stink bugs, but every time he throws up. One cartoon page shows Simon's Cat gleefully eating a bug, then making disgusted nauseated faces until the last frame where he joyfully eats the same sort of bug again. Completely Chester. All day long.

Delightful book. :) Tofield is servant to 4 cats of his own and has published 9 books of cat cartoons. This was the first one I checked out at the library. I'm definitely going to read more. Loved this one! There is also a YouTube channel with animated shorts here: Simon's Cat

The angriest naughtiest cat is back! Anybody who has a cat will surely see something of their cat in this book, with the possible exceptions of those who own one of the weird bald cats. For my cat Simon Tofield has captured my cats constant shouting for food, including the shouting at my neighbours.

In this book the cat gets a bath and is so angry he packs some food and leaves home. He then has an adventure meeting lots of new creatures and managing to annoy them all, my favourite was him throwing ants at a spiders web.

The illustrations can be simple on one page and the next page can be complex with lots of animals hidden in camouflage.

This book is probably only for cat owners, but I'd still recommend it for everybody.

Después de Kafka precisaba un libro ligero y los libros de Simon's cat son ideales para dejarse llevar por un buen momento, las ilustraciones en este ejemplar son muy trabajadas, mismo se puede ver algunos dibujos hechos por PC, y otros con sumo detalle, se nota la evolución del dibujante.
Sobre la historia parece al comienzo no tener otro hilo que el día a día del gato de Simon, pero finalmente un buen día decide irse de aventura llegando a la campiña inglesa, conociendo muchos animales distintos y haciendo nuevas travesuras y amistades.
Un librito hermoso.

Sometimes you tell your goodreads account you've read a book even though it's exclusively pictures because it isn't a very reading heavy year for you and there is no way you're meeting your yearly goal. (very cute book though)

Simon's Cat doesn't always succeed to be funny. The drawings are very cute, however, and I guess that's where most people get their enjoyment from the book.

I like that there's a consistensy in the plot, which isn‘t very common with this sort of picture books. The book has a beginning, middle and end. Still, some pages just seem to be filler material that don‘t really have anything on them that's interesting. Then there are a lot of other pages with jokes that just don‘t hit the mark for me.

Some pages are however quite hilarious, especially if you are familiar with living with cats. I for instance liked it when the cat was sharpening his/her claws on a sheep and when the cat was fighting to get rid of tape that was stuck to it.

Simon's cat is actually a pretty sweet cat and has lots of adventures, but I think the only thing missing from these books is that there is not even a little bit of writing, so yes the illustrations are great but seeing only drawing all the time seems boring to me after a point. Apart from that, if I talk about this book, this time our cat is exploring the outside world and interacting with many animals. He had very enjoyable adventures.

Since there might be people wanting to buy it, I looked at the price on amazon and it looks like $ 16. Frankly, it wasn't a book that should have been in my library for me. I am happy to be able to follow it as pdf.

If you like drawing books, I am sure you will love this book.

Simon'ın kedisi aslında oldukça tatlı bir kedi ve bolca maceraya sahip fakat bence bu kitapların tek eksiği azıcık bile olsa yazı olmaması yani evet illüstrasyonlar harika ama sürekli yalnızca çizim görmek bir noktadan sonra bana sıkıcı geliyor. Bunun dışında bu cilt için konuşacak olursam kedimiz bu sefer dışarıdaki dünyayı keşfe çıkıyor ve bir çok hayvanla etkileşime geçiyor. Oldukça keyifli maceralara sahipti.

Almak isteyenler olabileceği için amazondan fiyatına baktım ve 16 dolar görünüyor. Açıkçası bana göre kitaplığımda olması gereken bir kitap değildi. Pdf olarak takip edebildiğim için mutluyum.

I just love Simon’s artistic style. In this book, we get treated to his take on all sorts of animals, other than the ones that have featured in his previous work. The humour gets a little dark here and there but overall this book is a lot of fun, as we follow the Cat on his adventures beyond his backyard and into the countryside.

Simon's cat with tape stuck on his paw and Simon's cat trying to fit himself into a box much smaller than his body size allows were my two favorite illustrations/pages.

The "beyond the fence" part was harder for me to identify with, as my kitties don't have much experience in the outside world...

Love the art of Simon's Cat, it's so adorable--but I'm used to having something to read in comics. I was surprised to see there was no dialogue or thoughts or even titles to the pieces in this book, and I think that's a neat way to do it, but I also think that I prefer a bit of guidance that words provide.

I also think I would have liked one of the other Simon's Cats books better to start on, because a cat in the house with their owner is more relateable to me than zany adventures of a runaway cat. The beginning of the book where he was still with his owner I enjoyed more than the rest. I would definitely check out another book of his.

Teine nunnu koomiksiraamat, milles Simoni kass otsustab maailma avastama minna. Palju tavapärast tembutamist ja kassi kiusakaid krutskeid lindude ning teiste pisiloomade arvel. Enamasti saab Simoni kass aga ise kohe nina pihta. Retke edenedes saavad siiski kõik sõpradeks ning veedavad koos lõbusa tegusa päeva. Armas. Ei puudu ka väike randevuu. Lõpuks sätib väsinud kiisu sammud kodu poole ja soovib loomulikult süüa, mida veel.
Pean veel kord ütlema, et klipid on ikkagi palju paremad, aga ühekordseks lehitsemiseks ja lõõgastavaks ajaviiteks sobis raamat hästi.

I first read the third in this series and didn't care for the book. This one is more than two times longer and has two times the quality of the volume to come. The situations and gags are better. Though, this is really not a gag cartoon lot. More situational, that mostly cat lovers will really like.

The drawing is still an issue. Single lines that have no depth. The storytelling doesn't suffer as much with this collection, in that the images are simpler and more distinct.

Bottom line: I recommend this book. 5 out of ten points.

This is a rather quick read, but it's wonderful in every possible way. With comic strips that stand on their own, but are all connected, Tofield tells a hilarious and heart warming story of Simon's cat's journey through the countryside. The art style is wonderful. The details are incredible and the design of the animals are both funny and awesome.
The sense of humor should work for literally everyone, it's a chubby cat trying to eat and destroy, what's not to love?

I really enjoyed Simons Cat animated and thought to pick this up. I liked the strips going from page to page and some really made me chuckle but some just didnt click with me. Something tells me that I would have absolutely loved this had I been 10 years old. So this one will be going to my son. Hope he'll enjoy it more than me.

With that said, its a beautiful hardcover and the
unconventional dimensions and blown out artwork is truly gorgeous to look at. Really looks great on the bookshelf.

I love the youtube videos, but this was a very enjoyable alternative. It's not really a story, and it has no text. It's a series of visual anecdotes about what Simon's cat gets up to when he is in the woods or on the farm, interacting with other animals. I picked it up every time I had a few spare moments to read, and I chuckled out loud virtually every session.

This tie-in book, to the hugely popular Simon's Cat short videos, sees the unruly cat up to his usual mischief. This volume sees him exploring the back garden and beyond and meeting a host of new friends. I was pleasantly surprised about the amount of hedgehogs featured, although once again the 'flea ridden' myth was propagated. A fun little book that firmly joins the bathroom books.
