4.5 stars!!

First line:
The bright yellow safety marker passed behind them as Dara leaned back on the solid wood boards of the chairlift, easing her skis onto the rests.

Memorable Scenes:
- first sex scene > good thing I'm read this book during a pretty cold spell or I'd have spontaneously combusted
- Jack and Kane discussing erotic romance > I love Viv for this scene
- icicles in the hot tub scene > the thought of coldness never crossed my mind

Review:
The main characters of FALLING, FREESTYLE are Dara, Kane and Jack. Three lifelong friends who embark on something that goes beyond close friendship. What a delicious, awesome read. It had everything I want in an erotic romance: well-written, steamy hot, funny, emotional and attention-grabbing.

Plain and ordinary is how Dara sees herself. She has a thing for her two best friends but doesn't dare going for either of them for fear of ruining their three-way friendship. She's pure and straightforward, what you see is what you get. I really loved how she handled both men and could match them in practically everything they dished out.

The two main men are Kane and Jack. Kane is a goofy, loud daredevil. He’s the kind of man who throes himself into a situation and then doubles back to think about it…maybe… Jack is the opposite of Kane. He’s solid, instinctive and supportive and is most happy when all is ordered and pristine

Though Kane definitely was a drool-worthy character, it was Jack who made me weak in the knees and that's not just because of my soft spot for heroes with his name. I loved how Kane, the boisterous, dare-devilish character, was the one who had the most trepidation about the ménage (at first) and it was Jack, the more cautious one, who dove in headfirst and was reassuring and encouraging Kane. He was also the more adventurous one in the bedroom, making Kane look the tamer one of the two. This dynamic in the book was just fascinating.

FALLING, FREESTYLE is, without a doubt, my favorite Vivian Arend read to-date, it just ticked all the right boxes: ménage, friends-to-lovers, sizzling hot sex, witty banter and genuine emotions. And when I started trying to picture in my head how certain things would work (using safety harness from skis as improvised handcuffs for example), I knew I had me a winner! The start of the book was more intense than the ending but still it was still the best Vivian Arend book I've read up till now. There was even a little bit of conflict to resolve, which is something that's not standard in her books.

I just love Vivian Arend’s writing. With FALLING, FREESTYLE I was once again drawn in from the very start by the ease and humor in her writing. The banter, camaraderie and chemistry between Dara, Kane and Jack are great and a big positive in this story.

One thing I MUST mention is the Alpine Responsibility Code that was quoted rule by rule at the beginning of every chapter. They were so fitting the stuff going on in the actual chapters, I just loved them and I wonder if there will be something similar, like a Rock Climbing Responsibility Code, in the next book.

The skiing stuff in this book brought memories back for me I'd rather forget. Years ago I discovered at a former job's teambuilding day that involved skiing lessons, in a what might be hilarious to some but in a disastrous way for me, that skiing is not my forte. I think there's still a traumatized ski instructor out there who will run screaming should I ever go down a slope in his vicinity. Still I enjoyed the joy of going down the slopes through Dara, Kane and Jack's characters.

I'm a sucker for the ménage trope as well as the friends-to-lovers trope and with FALLING, FREESTYLE Vivian Arend gave me a lovely combination of both that will definitely go on the favorite list.

Favorite Quotes:
"What's the solution? You going to step back and let me show her who's the better guy?" Jack's husky voice sent a shiver racing over Dara's skin.

She took his mouth like she took to the hills, full out, full speed--caution be damned.

"Did I offend your delicate feelings with my wicked proposal?"
He leered at her as he rose to his feet. "Hell no, I was just trying to figure out how you managed to avoid suggesting it a long time ago. Two righteous studs at your beck and call for years, and it took you this long to finally come to your senses?"

She tried to regain his lips, but he pressed his finger against them. She growled and muttered against the single digit. "Why not?"
Kane cleared his throat. "Because I'm an old-fashioned kind of guy? One step at a time."
"I'll totally let you run the bases before you hit a home run with me."

Kane and Jack exchanged glances. "She likes a little restraint?" Kane asked.
Jack nodded. "Looks that way. You want to get her legs?"
"Hey guys, she’s right here, listening to you...holy--"
Kane pulled her knees up and to the side. With no further preamble, he dropped his head between her legs, and suddenly she couldn't breathe.

Sensory overload approached like a freight train, and she let herself go, knowing they would catch her.

He [Kane] crawled on top of Dara and nuzzled her neck. His lips touched the lobe of her ear and he licked it before whispering softly, "I want you. Will you take me?"

Jack came to his side. "Kane? Are you going through Dara's bag? That's dangerous. Women have killed for less--"

(Kane) "You know I've got four sisters. Nothing was sacred when I was growing up. The things those girls talked about when I was around would have scarred a lesser man."

Dara was up to something, and she deserved the right to play this one out as she desired. She lifted her chin and her gaze darted between him and his friend. There was none of her usual submissive softness in her stance, just an all-out sensual burn that threatened to ignite the entire room.

(Dara to Jack) "Kane and I are going in the hot tub to f#ck like bunnies. You want to come?"

Dara has been best friends and neighbors with Kane and Jack for a few years now. They love extreme sports and ski/snow board often together. Dara has held a secret crush on both Kane and Jack but never thought she’d pursue this crush because she didn’t want to loose either friendship.

Jack and Kane have lusted after their friend Dara since the day they meet. But the both decided never to pursue their desires because Dara is their friend and they didn’t want to compete for the same woman.

On a vacation ski trip, Dara decides to reveal her desire to try some things she’s read in her erotic romances and would like both Jack and Kane. At the same time, Jack and Kane decided that one of them should win Dara…they want to keep her in their lives even if one of them couldn’t have her … with Dara’s plans they both can.

This is a steamin’ hot romance of three friends experimenting with a budding sexual relationship. Freestyle was a nice, easy, entertaining read that contained 2 stories not just 1. I did read this on the beach, but it would have been much better reading in front of the fireplace in the winter…its just that kind of book.

This copy of Freestyle was given to me by Goodreads First Reads and Samhain Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked that this relationship was based on friendship and that all of those involved worried about ruining that friendship. I really loved that Dara took advantage of overhearing the boys secret conversation of her and that she did it in a way that was super sneaky.

I was impressed the way that Dara really went for what she wanted right away when they all arrived at the resort, I sort of expected her to chicken out. They boys response was interesting and not what I expected, one all for it, the other not sure.

Of course it didn't take long before the two were able to convince the one and then it was game on. Soon it seemed like there was no boundaries and all of them found new things to turn them on.

I wondered how things would go once they all went home, would things continue or would this just be a wild weekend. It seems all of the characters wondered the same thing. And again it was Dara who proposed make the weekend fun a permanent thing with them all. The guys were stunned at first, but then we had the same response, one for, one against, only this time the roles were reversed and it took a two on one to change the mind of the hold out. I will say that the two did so in a way that had me laughing!

Best Friends in love w/your their female friend. Okay.
She wants them too?!? No shocker there.
Vacation and an erotica book are the ingredients to helping her living out her fantasy w/her 2 besties. What?

Menage Scenes: 3
Originality: 2 - I was confused w/some of the pretzel/twister position these 3 got into.
DP: 3- Only once.
Penetratee: + Submissive and Nymph. - I didn't learn a thing about her other than that.
Pentrators: + large heavy cocks. - all I knew was their eye color.

Good to help get the juices flowing. Read before going to bed not while in it unless your a good multitasked.
It is was it is.

This is a great story about three friends and their love for each other.
During a long ski trip Dara plans to seduce her two best friends after finding out they want her just as much as she wants them. The idea is to find out which man she loves more and wants to spend forever with. What she finds after 4 days of hot icicle melting sex is that she can't choose and needs them both.
There is a little bondage and a man who likes to take control in the bedroom so it's light on the bdsm - nothing too shocking.

This was okay, but not great. There were a lot of non-problems and really nothing much happened except a woman who can't decide between her two hot best friends gets to have them both. It's a lovely scenario to think about, but it seemed pretty far fetched. I also got a little irritated at the two guys consistent reminders that they weren't gay. It is a nice quick read and really made me want to go skiing.

Uneven book
I really liked the outdoor, skiing and surfing description. It's clear the author loved that and it shared nicely.
However the remainder was not as successful for me. The characters just remained characters, defined mostly by their hair and eye color. And I think that was it. The tentative to show a hint of emotional conflict was a miss. The hot scenes were quite steamy.
So for a light outdoorsy erotic romance, that might be it.

A short book but good. It's a romance about a girl whose had to over come body image and self esteem issues due to a very bad accident. Her climbing instructor helps her through more than trauma. Along with her long time friend. It was a good book. I recommend this read.

"4.5 stars" Falling, Freestyle is the first book in Vivian Arend’s Xtreme Adventures duet. Kane and Jack have been best friends since childhood and do almost everything together. They added Dara into their little friends’ group after meeting her when she moved into the same apartment building and they’ve all been pretty inseparable for the last four years. They share the same passion for snow sports and take an annual skiing trip together. Dara has been attracted to both men for a while, but she’s kept her distance, not knowing how they feel about her. Kane and Jack both want to pursue Dara romantically, so they end up having a spat over who should get that chance first, which Dara accidentally overhears. Feeling she can’t possibly choose between them, she makes a plan to seduce them both into sharing a menage during their vacation, hoping that it might help her decide which one she’s more compatible with. While Kane and Jack are surprised by Dara’s overt sexual invitation, neither of them can deny her what she wants, so they end up spending their days tearing up the slopes and their nights burning up the sheets. When their trip comes to an end, Dara is even more conflicted and can’t imagine being without either of her guys. She proposes a permanent menage, but Jack isn’t sold on the idea and needs a bit of persuading from Kane and Dara to give it a try.

I’d say that the main weakness of this story is that it doesn’t have a great deal of character development. Beyond learning how Kane, Jack, and Dara became friends, we aren't given much information about their backgrounds or their current circumstances, such as their family lives and what they do for a living, as well as whether an unconventional relationship might affect those things. However, I can happily say that they all have distinct personalities and kinky preferences. After reading erotic romances, Dara is into the idea of a menage. She isn’t sure if it’s one of those things that’s better in theory than in practice, but she’s daring enough to take the reins in order to find out. Kane loves that Dara is into him, but he’d rather it be one-on-one. He’s heard about guys in menages crossing swords, which is something that doesn’t interest him at all. This makes him angst over Dara’s suggestion until Jack offers up a little reassurance. Kane isn’t really into BDSM either, but finds that he kind of likes Jack taking control of their intimate times. Jack is the kind of guy who’s up for just about anything. From the moment Dara makes her proposition, he’s totally on board, wanting to fulfill all her fantasies. He enjoys things like bondage and spanking and he likes to dominate in the bedroom. He loves sharing intimacies with his two best friends for the weekend, but he’s also more of a pragmatist when it comes to the idea of a permanent threesome, feeling it probably wouldn’t work for a number of reasons. However, Kane knows him well enough to realize what Jack needs to spur him into action.

Overall, I very much enjoyed Falling, Freestyle. The characterizations may have been a little underdeveloped but there’s enough present that I can say I liked all three quite well. Having Kane and Jack angst over certain parts of Dara’s suggestion made it seem more real than if they’d all just fallen into bed together without even thinking about it. Anyone who reads my reviews with any degree of regularity will know that I’m a total sucker for friends-to-lovers romances, so that aspect made it even more appealing to me. Them all being friends for so long also made the rapid progression to lovers a lot more believable as well. The book is novella length, so it’s primarily about the sexy times, but there’s just enough story in between to keep things interesting. As for the steam factor, it’s off the charts. The love scenes are extremely well written with plenty of variety. I just love how Kane and Jack both treat Dara with gentleness and respect and are eager to fulfill her fantasies. All said, I had a great time reading Falling, Freestyle. It was my first book by Vivian Arend, but it definitely won’t be my last. I look forward to the second book of the series and checking out her back list as well.

Note: This book contains explicit language and sexual situations in both M/F and M/F/M combinations, including mild bondage, spanking and domination, exhibitionism, creative use of icicles, and anal sex, all of which could be objectionable to sensitive readers.

Hot with friends

Great story of 3 besties-two guys and one girl, who decide to take their relationship to the next level. Very good

Good read

Love this author and this is a different style of book than the series she normally produces. That said I really enjoyed it, especially the friends to lovers and their journey getting there. Recommend.

I didn’t realize I was getting a menage when I started this book, but I’m with our heroine, why choose when they both bring it all to the table! This wasn’t just hot, it left scorch marks in its’ path, and because we are friends to lovers, the bond and emotions were already there to build upon <3

I decided on this book when looking for a sexy romance set in snow. Living in the South, snow is a rarity, and I figured if I couldn't make snow angels in real life, I may as well curl up with a book whose snow-capped setting fulfills my winter wonderland desire. Enter Falling Freestyle, a story about three best friends -- two guys, one girl -- who use a winter weekend getaway to take their relationship to the next level.

Dara, Kane and Jack have been the Three Musketeers for years, and while Dara trusts them with her life, lately she's grown tired of being considered "one of the guys". Wanting to show them that she's got moves that extend beyond the slopes and a figure underneath all the snow gear, she decides to seduce them during their annual ski trip. Kane and Jack's love for Dara has begun to creep beyond "best friend" territory, but don't want to frighten her off or force her to choose between them. But when Dara proposes that the three of them spend the weekend getting to know each other better, Kane and Jack figure it's better to share Dara than neither having a chance with her at all. While their relationship may work during their weekend away, the trio must face reality when they return home. Who will Dara choose as her boyfriend and as her boy friend? Can they go back to being friends?

Dara, Jack and Kane's relationship is unorthodox, to say the least, but I really admired the friendship between the trio. While Kane and Jack are opposites, their love for Dara and respect for the other man feel genuine, which makes it hard to choose a favorite amongst them -- and also explains why Dara couldn't decide between them. Although the story contains sexual encounters that involve all three of them, the scenes are well-written and believable in the sense that the POVs of each character are realistic -- i.e., wrought with self-consciousness and worry about the effect it will have on their friendship.

However, there are still parts of the story in which belief needs to be suspended, such as the perfect hotel conditions where there just happens to be an already-heated hot tub awaiting their arrival. But, hey, I read to escape reality, so this was just fine by me. All-in-all, Falling, Freestyle is perfect for a cold night in, and most definitely one that is hot enough to melt the ice caps.

Not even a mountain of snow could cool off these three.

FALLING, FREESTYLE is a friends to lovers story with a few twists and gallons of hawt sauce. Three interesting characters pushing their sexual limits and taking me on all kinds of fun adventures on and off the slopes kept me enthralled. I enjoyed how these two very typical guys had to come to terms with every emotion that played out in their first ménage. How could he get turned on by watching their best friend with the girl he loved? Was his buddy thinking he was lusting after him too? Hands off, dude. And what kind of freak am I that I don't just want to dominate her, but tell him what to do to her? Those were the internal struggles that added depth to the story. It wasn't just about sex. It was about internal struggle and change.

Dani has been best friends with Kane and Jack since high school. On and off the ski slopes, the three of them have become ‘The Three Musketeers'.

But secretly they all want more.

The idea of sharing a female, especially Dani, is foreign to the boys. They each want her forever, waiting patiently for her to show some sign of preference. Dani loves and lusts for her boys equally, nightly fantasizing about casting the three in some of her erotica tales. It's not until she overhears the boys discussing her that she realizes the feelings are mutual.

Only, they want her to pick. Just. One.

Dani decides their upcoming trip may be the time to act on her only chance for a ménage fantasy, not only soothing her lusty ache but also helping her decide who she is most compatible with.

All three characters are unique from the beginning. I am a fan of interesting characters. It really sets a book apart for me, and these three did strike a chord. The ability of three different people to come together and work through the challenges of such a situation was as captivating as the exploits with ice cycles and ski lifts. It was sweet, and funny, and exceptionally kinky. Get ready for an exhibitionist ride.

If a ski trip isn't in your plans this winter, this may be just the substitute you need. With plenty of downhill fun, a hot tub full of hawt, and a cabin full of insatiable friends, you don't have to travel far to have it all. Enjoy!

My impressions:

I like friends to lover stories, I like threesomes. Most of all, I like Vivian Arend. So, this felt like a guaranteed good read. I must admit, I was some what disappointed. Oh, it isn’t bad, but it isn’t the sizzling book I had expected. There was a lot of sex, the interaction between characters. But, it felt like everything went too smoothly. There was no conflict. Oh, sometimes it was hinted
at, but it never interrupted the story.

Dana, Jack and Kane have been inseparable since Dana moved into their building years ago, they spend all their free time together but Dara has started to get fed up of them seeing her as one of the boys. Jack and Kane are as different as night and day but Dara has developed strong feelings for both of them, she'd love to move things forward but who should she pick? Can their friendship survive if she chooses one over the other?

I always enjoy Vivian Arend's paranormal romances so I thought it was about time I gave one of her contemporaries a try and Falling, Freestyle didn't disappoint. As a novella this is a fast read but it is full of heat and just about melted my kindle! Dara is definitely a gutsy lady - she knows what she wants and she's going to do whatever it takes to get it. As soon as they arrive at the ski resort for their annual holiday she sets her plan in motion and it doesn't take long before she's fulfilling her wildest fantasies.

Although it's a fairly short story Vivian Arend managed to show how deep the friendship goes between all three main characters. They are all worried about the effect that introducing sex will have on their friendship, especially as the menage is a weekend only thing and Dara is planning on using it as a way to see which of the two guys she is most compatible with. Jack is Dara's rock, he is always there when she needs him and she can't imagine her life without him. He is also the more dominant of the two and his tastes definitely fall on the more kinky side. Kane on the other hand is a practical joker who brings fun to the friendship, he's also an exhibitionist who likes nothing more than the idea of being caught. Between Jack and Kane Dara gets more than she'd bargained for both in and out of the bedroom but it doesn't make her decision any easier.

If you're looking for a fun, erotic read you can't go far wrong with Falling, Freestyle. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Review reposted from my Smitten with Reading blog...

My Review:
A bit of menage on the ski slopes...HOT! Friends-to-lovers....my favorite style of romantic story. You should already know that I am going to like this one, right? ;o)

These three have been best friends for 4 years. Dara has debated for years about making her move on one of these guys, but after an overheard conversation between the two guys, Dara decides to take advantage of their upcoming ski weekend to figure out which one she wants. They all arrive at the ski lodge and she proposes a menage...just for the weekend.

They all know that this is just for the weekend and both guys are desperately hoping that they will be the one chosen. All three are best friends and no one wants anything to come between the three's friendship.

There is a vulnerability to their friendship that has been exposed by their introducing sex into the mix and they are all three leery of what is going to happen. All three care desperately for each other and no one wants anyone to be hurt. Jack is by his nature a Dom. He NEEDS to take charge in the bedroom, but he's afraid of intimidating the other two. Kane is intimidated by the idea of having another man in the bedroom, but at Jack's urging tries to let go and just enjoy the weekend. Dara knows that she needs to take the weekend to truly decide which man she wants but as the weekend progresses, finds herself more and more torn by what the decision may mean for the three of them.

I really enjoyed this story and the interactions between the three friends...both in and out of the bedroom. I've always enjoyed the idea of romance on the ski slopes and this one did not disappoint. A great sexy book!!

Falling Freestyle is guaranteed to make you want to go skiing for a long weekend after reading it! Despite the somewhat unappealing cover, this is a cute, fun read-perfect for a cold winters night.

Dara, Jack and Kane have been best friends forever. When Dara overhears the two of them talking about making a move on her before it's too late, she knows she has to take action. She's always been attracted to both of them, and doesn't want to lose either of them. Dara knows just what to do-on their annual ski weekend trip she'll make a move on them...both of them. She knows that she can't choose just one of them-the problem is to convince them that the three of them can have a relationship together.

Falling Freestyle is the first non paranormal erotic story that I've read by Vivian Arend. It was just as good as her paranormal erotic romances are. The characters are all lovable and I felt like I had known them forever after reading it. Dara is such a strong heroine. She knows what she wants and while she's a bit worried about going after it, she won't let fear stop her from making her move. Jack and Kane each have their own issues to deal with, and having them work them out made me love them that much more. One of the reasons I read so few contemporary romances is that the heroines all tend to have tragic pasts, but such isn't the case with Dara. It was just nice to have a story feature an older heroine without issues. While most of the story took place in the bedroom, it just, well worked. There so many steamy scenes that I was sad when the story ended so soon. Fans of Lauren Danes Brown Siblings have to give this novella a try!

Well, romances are about escapism and fantasy, and this packs quite a punch in 120 pages. Usually books this short fly by, but this one was impressive. Read the warnings, which I usually skip in copying the blurb here to the blog. If any of that isn’t for you, skip it (except bondage and spanking, which was very light). If you like best friend stories and triad stories, this is right up your alley.

I’m amazed at how the author packed so much character and steam into one novella. Dara is torn by her love of her two best friends, and wants to do something about them not seeing her as a girl. When she overhears that they both want her, she takes matters into her own hands. The guys are shocked when she reveals the erotic novel she’s been reading and asks them to help her fulfill some of her own fantasies, but agree to suspend reality for a weekend.

Kane and Jack are best friends who have never shared a woman before, and never even considered it. Usually in these stories the ménage idea is not new to everyone in the trio. The author got into the heads of all three characters, and managed to turn out one very hot romance. The guys go back and forth in their heads with jealousy vs. wanting to please Dara, and yet it doesn’t sound like whining or take away from the momentum of the book at all.

Oh…and the ending is fresh and entertaining, but I’m not going to spoil it.

I am always game for a good menage book. Always. This one was a little different from the menages I usually read because much of the action involves sex between two of them while the third looks on or engages only minimally. Trust me when I say this works perfectly for this book. It's sexy as hell and it very nicely deals with some of the issues Kane has with being involved in a trio when he's not sexually attracted to men.

One of the things I absolutely love about Vivian Arend's writing is that she gives us characters that feel very real. Kane has some reservations about sharing Dara with his best friend that has nothing to do with "sharing" her so much as being in close physical contact with another guy. Dara allows both Jack and Kane to push her boundaries while worrying that her request will change things between them in the long run. Jack worries that his penchant for dominance games in the bedroom might bleed over into real life and he'd end up demanding things of his best friends without consciously meaning to. Quite frankly, these things made the characters stand out and made me fall for them even more.

Fun, fast paced, and sex-ay, I am all over the friends to lovers and how they work things out to a mutually satisfying conclusion idea. It worked very nicely here and I fully approve of the use of icicles in the hot tub.
