The Hate Disease
Dr. Calhoun and his pet tormal Murgatroyd work for the Interstellar Medical Service making routine public health inspections on far-flung colonial planets. When they reach Tallien Three they are greeted with a rocket attack by the Paras, a mutated form of human rapidly replacing the “normals”. The normals think it’s a pandemic of demonic possession but Calhoun has his doubts. If he can keep from turning into a Para, or being assassinated by them he just might figure this thing out.

This is one of the Med Ship books. A disease has split the population of a planet apart & has them at each other's throats. Some interesting ideas, but not terribly well presented. Still, there is food for thought in it.
The narrator was Greg Margaruitte (sp?) who usually does a good job. Most of it was fine this time, but his pronunciation of some words was jarring. For instance, he pronounced "demonic" (dee-mon-ick) as 'dee-o-min-ick'. I didn't even understand it at first. There were a couple of others, too.

Fantasy reading 📚
Due to eye issues Alexa reads to me, a will written fantasy Sci-Fi space thriller novella. The characters are interesting and will developed. The story line is fast moving, violent, and complicated as the main character races to save a planet. I would recommend this novella to readers of fantasy Sci-Fi. Enjoy reading 🔰2021 🏥

I quite enjoyed this novella. Aside from being a very quick read, it posits interesting human political control motivations and leadership by threat. As you know, leadership by threat is all the rage these days; this novella is quite relevant.

This short story first appeared in Analog Magazine, August 1963, and is also known under the title, Tallien Three.
Over the better part of half a year, the population of planet Tallien 3 been slowly turned into the goings-on of another planet, Paras. What evil specifically turned Tallien 3 into a hideous, hateful, and vile living environment was an epidemic! (Oh, color me shocked at this point; the horror of this general theme does have the slight acrid and disgusting stench of 2020.) What or who will save the horrors the population experiences, specifically hate, mistrust, and general demonic possession? Well, none other than Calhoun and his faithful little monkey-like buddy, Mergatroyd! Doctor John Calhoun and his Med Service Crew resolve the problems, as only planetary doctor-saviors can.

Weird enough to enjoy.

The enemy was a little flat and underwhelming. The story lays in the shadow of the 1954 novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson.
