It is no secret that I am a huge fan of romance novels. After reading the premise for this book I couldn't wait to start reading it. I loved 'Crazy for you'. It is far from a typical romance book, Crazy for You offered so much more. The book takes place in the 80's in a world of sex, drugs and rock and roll. Roxanne meets starving musician Frank Garret and they both are immediately taken by each other. The passion that these two share for each other radiates off the pages. Roxanne has become one of my favourite book characters, I fell in love with her from the very beginning and I was surprised with how I could relate to her in some parts. This book is a page turner! The suspense in this book is a pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting all the twist and turns. They had me flying through the pages. The entire character cast is great, you'll find yourself falling in love with not just Roxanne and Frank but with all the characters.
Sandra Edwards is definitely a favourite author of mine, she delivers fantastic story lines that keep you hooked. I just learned from visiting her website(sandrawrites.com) that there is a sequel coming for 'Crazy for You'! It is titled 'Forever for You', I can't wait to get my hands on that one. I am excited to learn more about Roxanne and Frank and what is to come. 'Crazy for You' is filled with so much, wild storyline, romance and great suspense. What more could you ask for? An amazing book. A Must read!
Very predictable with little character development and a disjointed plot. Mediocre writing at best; I often wondered if the book had any kind of editing or even proofreading before release. This is one of the worst books I've ever read.
I was totally thrilled to win this book as a Goodreads giveaway! I already had it on my Kindle wish list to purchase in the future & had just purchased Incredible Dreams the previous week on my Kindle. So, on with the review! At first thought the title caught my attention because it took me back to 1987, my senior year of high school. I worked in a movie theatre that had one of those mini recording studios, & a girlfriend & I did a recording of the song "Crazy For You" by Madonna. We sounded pretty good too. Anyway, that was just from the title on to the book. This book was fantastic! I really enjoyed how Sandra went back & forth between the present & past to explain things. I don't think it would have worked any other way. All I can say is this story really hit home with me. Not the actual events, but the way the characters were toward each other. The love/hate relationship & how Roxie loved him so much she gave everything of herself. And how Frankie always took things wrong & held a grudge & had a hard time forgiving her for the things that she did. This is what I am going through right now & have yet to have a happy ending. I was a little freaked out as I was reading that I was comparing my relationship to theirs. It was a little disturbing. But the story pulled me in that much that I almost felt like I was part of their lives. I only wish I was lucky enough to get some kind of "do over" like Roxie got. I don't think I would want to forget my children, but what risks would you take to keep your one true love & be truly happy? It's a scary question, but believe me there are people out there that have relationships like this. Mine isn't quite as drastic as this, but it is true that there are people really feeling like this out there in the real world & not just in a story. As I closed the book I said to myself "Wow, what a great story & one that really pulls you in & makes you think". Amazing! Thank you Sandra for the wonderful story of Frankie & Roxie (AKA, Frank & Roxanne)or vice versa, I think what they say is true everything happens for a reason & I think I won this book to help me to look at my own situation & maybe ponder on what to do to help it out. Hopefully mine will have a happy ending too! Thanks again, Angela :-)
I read this book because it was based in Tampa and because it was free @ amazon. Although it was a little confusing I could not put it down. It has it ups and downs but overall I liked it,
I thought th is might have been a book about redemption, but it turned into a theme of domestic abuse is OK because maybe they will change. Even in the last few chapters, the guy is still overly jealous and violent and controlling. By the end, i was mad at the therapist, the sister and the best friend for encouraging her to keep working on the love because he just loved her too much and that's why he was abusive. Very disappointed. I really regret reading it.
***I received this ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***
Ok where to start with this...this was a very hard book to get through. The way the story is told with mostly dialogue and inner dialogue made it very hard for me to stay interested. The plot was not well thought out or even believable. I get that this is fiction but it still has to have a realistic plot. Roxanne manages to write books, covert them to screen plays, has her son, and wins best actress awards all in the span of four years. Um...yeah not realistic.
I did not connect or like any of the characters in this book, at all. The two main characters Roxy and Frankie are selfish, immature, and over-dramatic. I'm sorry but selfish, immature and over-dramatic does not equate to damaged. The writing was choppy and did not flow well, lacking in detail for the setting and characters. Possibly one of the most poorly written books I have ever read.
3.5 stars. Since this book was free on Kindle, I was not expecting too much. I like it though some parts were cyclic… They have such a complicated relationship. Roxanne & Frank love each other with passion but I also like the part when they plotted revenge against each other. Initially, I’m not sure what the hell is she thinking when she walked away and hid from Frank when she got pregnant. But I liked how it was explained why she did that. The part about her real plan for the “honeymoon” made me cry. I also like the twist in towards the end. I think Frankie, (the son) really has a strong bond with Roxanne and deep inside he knew what's going on. I like the other characters Candy and Rich but I think in some parts they were just fillers to make the book longer.
I gave this book 1 star not because I didn't find the book interesting because it was definitely interesting. But the book was all over the place, it went from 3rd person to the characters first person. When I say characters I mean all the characters in this book had a point of view. It was a very odd read to say the least. I think the story could have been told in a more edited storyline if that makes any sense? It felt like I was in this soap opera watching individual sketches versus reading a really good story. The story had substance, but just not relatable or believable for me anyway.
Even though it wasn't for me, it may appeal to you and if it's free then you may want to try it out.
UPDATE: I had to change my rating on this one from 4 stars to 3 stars. After reading "Promises to Keep" and seeing how much that book moved me, I realized that this book wasn't as good as I originally thought. I am changing my rating to reflect how I feel about it now...it was ok. An easy read. Nothing spectacular. Read "Promises to keep" first!!
A very easy, easy light read. Kept me entertained and it went quickly. Total chick book. There is a follow-up to this book, not sure I will read it or not, but I like the idea of seeing what happens to all the characters after the supposed happy ending.
I got this book on my Kindle because it was cheap and I didn't have high expectations. Needless to say, I was wrong! I started this book less than 24 hours ago and have already finished it. It is a GREAT book! I have not read anything like it before and it completely caught me off guard. It isn't your typical chick-lit love story where everything is always perfect. Honestly, there were a few times through out the book were I had tears in my eyes! It is a wonderful story and I highly recommend it.
A love story but complicated a lot of misunderstandings and sometimes I was really pissed off at both of them him and her, she made two really bad decisions and then later he made some. I think the book needed some editing too much stuff about feelings and regret ... A little TOO much . The book held my attention and you just had to keep reading till the end. Also some things were a bit far-fetched can't say what without giving things away .... Well just one they don't put the writer of a book as the star of the movie made enough said.
Oh man, what a colossal waste of time this book was. I find it hard to believe that it ever received a green light for publication. Not ONCE did I ever feel sympathy for any of the main characters. The writing was disjointed and seemed to be written by several different people. In fact, the only parts I found mildly enjoyable were the chapters wherein Frank, Candy, and Rich were working on Roxanne's book and the last 2 chapters. Thank heavens I didn't pay even a single cent for this book because I am deleting it from my Kindle straight away.
Not my favorite Sandra Edwards and really more like 2 1/2 stars. She mentions in the forward that this is one of her first books and it was a free Kindle download for me, so no complaints about not getting my money's worth on it. But it was just not a compelling story and the timeline was off enough to bother me. In four years someone basically accomplishes the impossible - writes books, turns them to screenplays, has a baby and wins 2 best actress oscars after her baby is born. Um, no. Rags to riches with a different ending, but it just does not ring true in so many ways.
Crazy for You is an apt name for the characters and the events that evolve in the story line. Roxanne and Frank are two of the most foolhardy I have ever came across in any book I have ever read. A lot of unnecessary heartache and pain they cause each other by misunderstandings and running away from fear and love. This is one involved story but totally worth the read and tears. They both take the long way around to finally end up together. I loved the twists and turns and not knowing whats going to happen next. A pure reading pleasure.
Rock band member meets young widow. Rock band member becomes rock star. Young widow becomes rich author and movie star. She hides the birth of their baby from rock star. The rag to riches theme is over done. The story doesn't always hold together. It was a free kindle book and I think that was the right price.
I really enjoyed the beginning of this novel, and found the story was interesting and compelling. The middle, however, was filled with the back story and slowed everything down. I did want to find out what happened so kept reading and wasn't disappointed. A good read.
OMG I loved this book!! I could not put it down!! I have never cried so much while reading a book and felt such heartache for the characters. It sucked me in so much it was as if it was actually happening to me...which thank goodness it wasn't. This is a MUST READ!
Although it was a great story line, would've loved if the author detailed it a bit more--felt as if the entire story was rushed which made it unrealistic. The 3 sentence epilogue disappointed me most of all.
I liked this book. I got into it farily quickly, and it kept my attention. I had a hard time putting it down. It's well written and even I didn't see the plot twist coming.
This book was well written in the beginning and I actually understood the back and forth but the ending was a complete disappointment, it felt rushed and incomplete.
