The only good thing about this comic collection is that it was short.
For being marketed as something classic Max Ride fans would love, they sure did strip the entire series of any character or plot or fun.
I'd hate for any newcomers to this story to have this as the first exposure to this universe.
Also the art style. What was happening there? The concept art and alternate covers were gorgeous but all we were left with were wonky proportions and downright ugly coloring.
Having read all the books growing up, I was extremely disappointed not seeing the huge feathery wings i had always imagined. It didn’t feel like I was reading Maximum Ride at all to be honest. The only characters that matched anything that i had imagined were Angel and Gasman and even then... the mech wings just didn’t fly with me. I love the idea of them being able to fold in near the spine, that was awesome! But not having the huge feathery beasts kinda was a let down. The story in general was good but I don’t really feel like it had the heart needed for a dedicated fan of the series. It seemed like a rushed mashup of the first few books. It didn’t have nearly enough background of the characters nor enough about the story for anyone who wasn’t already a fan of the series to pick up and read confidently in my opinion. The art was a hit and miss for me as well. There were scenes that I thought were beautifully done then there were ones that I just had to question what the artist was thinking. There was wonky anatomy galore and the characters seemed to randomly age in a few panels; one image had Nudge climbing the ladder and she looked to be in her early thirties instead of her early teens. I will say that its not a comic for everyone and, as much as I love the books, I don’t feel like it was a comic for me. True rating; 2.5/5 stars

It was pretty good, but there were a few places where the art was strange. There is one fight scene in which Fang is drawn all stretched out and super rubbery like he is Mr. Fantastic. I'm not a big fan of the mech wings idea, but they are drawn pretty cool. I think I have maybe read a little too much Max Ride...
It was good to revisit my favourite series as a child, maybe even all time. I was a tad disappointed with what they kept in the story, practically showing no character development and missed out a lot of key parts. I do like the manga version better, but this was fine.
