"When I was small, they were the monsters beneath my bed. And you want me to go right to them? Deliver myself like a gift?"
Hurt flashed across his features before he masked it.
"Do you think I'd let them take you? Hurt you?" he asked, his voice low and intense.
"Why should I trust you?"

***Please note that this review has been updated and altered to reflect the changes (edited and new material) that have been made to this rereleased version of Sin's Daughter.

Amber and Kai's tale is a quick, action-filled, romantic novella that gives readers a wee taste of the Sin's world.

I suspected right from the start (unlike the characters) what had happened in terms of the loss and betrayal these two experienced, but (like the characters) I didn't know why.

Finding out the why made for an interesting ride...

His smile was feral, white teeth and threat of death, and when he moved, she barely saw him. All she saw was the surprise etched on [their] faces as he killed them, one by one, ripping free their hearts. [...] When it was done, he stood there, breathing hard, blood covering his hands and forearms, and a spray of it marking his face. And all around him, like fallen dominoes, the bodies of the dead.

When I first (and finally) read this in January 2017, it was actually the last book for me to complete from this series (as I'd read the first four books many moons ago and then read them again a while back) and one I'd been meaning to get to for quite some time.

So, yes, I read this prequel to the series last, but that worked out well for me. I knew everything that came after the fact and, therefore, experienced this story in a much richer way for having already been immersed in that particular world/mythology. I was more than happy to be back there again and watch this story unfold.

His gaze raked her, then he strode toward her, eyes glittering, mouth hard. He stopped a foot away, and she could feel energy pounding off him in waves. [...] He dragged her against him, hard muscle and heat. Lowering his mouth, he kissed her, his lips opening on hers, his tongue sliding inside.
And, heaven help her, she let him.
No, more than that, she dug her fingers into the solid muscle of his shoulders, held him close, and kissed him back.

In this newer version, certain things were more fleshed out and definite changes were made which altered my experience of the story on a number of levels. For some reason, it just didn't feel as fast paced for me as it did the first time around, and though I appreciated some of the changes that gave a bit more depth to the story, there were others that I could take or leave.

That being said, I liked Amber and Kai, and the dynamics between them as they found their way back to one another. I also appreciated that the huge misunderstanding didn't drag out and torment this particular reader and that it was addressed in a reasonable amount of time. Actual conversation and communication does wonders...

So, on that final note, I enjoyed this wee peek into underworld/topworld dynamics, demon machinations, the reverberating impact of secrets and lies, and the things that people (and other beings entirely) are willing to do for love.

Heads up:An arc of Eve Silver's Sin's Daughter was provided in exchange for an honest review.

This is a novella that takes place before the Sins Series, which starts off with Sins of the Heart. If you haven't heard of that, I have written a review already for the first three books. If you would like to know more about this series, be sure to check it out. This review is going to be short due to the fact that I am going to avoid spoiling certain parts. I recommend that you read this after reading the first three books of the series, because that is how I read it and it seemed like the perfect order.

The two characters in this novella were Amber and Kai. Amber is very mysterious and secretive, she has a lot of questions but no answers. Kai is a guy who protects those he loves including Amber. After a terrible incident, 50 years ago, Amber and Kai are separated. In present day, Kai and Amber cross paths once again and finally find answers to the questions they had 50 years ago. Both of them haven't aged but they have changed from their past. But does this change affect the way they loved each other 50 years ago?

This novella was good but not the greatest. It was nice and refreshing to read something super short in 40 minutes. The characters were nice, but I didn't feel attached to them because the story was so short. I could feel the character's bonds and how strong it was, but I didn't feel connected to them or concerned about what would happen next.

I enjoyed this more than other novellas that I have read, but I feel like I love Eve Silver's novels better. Her novels are longer and I can invest my emotions into the characters I read about, (I don't think that makes sense, but you get what I mean, right?). I didn't laugh as much as I usually do in her other novels, even though they are really serious.

Although I didn't enjoy this as much as her other books, I highly recommend you read it if you have read the Sins series. If you didn't read the Sins series, I highly recommend it, it's entertaining, fun and dark. The romance is great and the characters are unique.

Anyway, I'll be off!

This brand new to me series luckily came out with the Free e-book version of the prequel story and I snapped it up to read.. Just finished and this is the coolest short story ever, it has the neatest paranormal twists for the two main characters Kai and Amber that has ever come to my attention in a long time... The story if full of action, hot sweaty sex and some of the most honest give and take between the male and female lead in a book in a very long while... I cannot wait to dive into the full length books that starts off with "Sins of The Heart"!

A great companion piece to the Sins series that fills in some pieces of the puzzle in the main story line. Short, but satisfyingly dark, haunting, gritty, sexy, and attention grabbing, Sin's Daughter fits right into the Sins Series. Note that is novella can be read as a stand alone and/or at any time before or after reading any of the other books in the series. I definitely recommend reading this piece.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book from the author.

Wow! I enjoyed this short story, immensely. It had a fast pace, with action in the right places and the right amount of spiced up passion. Sin's Daughter was a great setup story for the Otherkin Trilogy, it laid the ground work out nicely with plenty of hints of intrigues to come. I can't wait to get my hands on the first book, Sins of the Heart!

Short, sweet, and to the point! No messing around with tons of background, but I didn't really miss it. I got the gist of the story from what's written. This is basically a short recap and reunion of two lovers who both thought the other betrayed them. It sets up the series nicely and introduced you to a handful of what I'm assuming are characters from upcoming books.

This wasn't terrible; I don't want to imply that you shouldn't give the book, author, or series a shot. But for me it was just too short, too predictable, and frankly, just not memorable. For a romance, I found it way too lacking in dramatic tension. I see that others have enjoyed this author more. Maybe her full-length novels are a better choice.

I enjoyed this quick novella in the Otherkin series. I would have loved it to have been more of a novel rather than a novella as I really enjoyed the characters and the story line. I wanted to read this book first that I can have an understanding of the rest of the books, and I am more excited now to read them. Great read.

*Disclaimer: I received this novella from the author for free. The following review is my own with no input or influence from the author.
This is a novella in the Sins series. It’s not about any of the sons of Sutekh, but Kai one of his soul reapers, and Amanda, the girl he loves. This was a fun little back story that gives some insight into one of the players in Sutekh’s realm. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next installment in the sins series. I don’t really want to say too much about this story as I don’t want to give away any of the twists and surprises, and for such a short book there are quite a few. Suffice to say, you can’t go wrong with this book, nor any of the others in the sin series.

I listened to this on audible after obtaining a review code.

I had the feeling straight away that Amber hadn’t betrayed Kai, but then when it jumped over to Ambers perspective and she thought he’d betrayed her I knew for certain they’d each been set up.

I realised at the crash why Amber was been hunted, particularly when Kai pointed out the “hunters” could have killed her but hadn’t. So it was funny when she met big Ralph and he tried and failed to explain things…although he seemed to think she’d just had a disagreement with her father, and not that she didn’t actually know who he was.

The book didn’t lack drama, suspense, action or spiciness, despite been a short book. I was just as impressed with this as I was with Sins of the Heart!

The narrator’s were on point again! I just love how they always differentiate between characters, and how they convey every emotion the characters have!

Amazing!!!

Sexy - Suspenseful - full of Surprises and as always Sinfully Stimulating
This is a Novella in the Sin Series
It may seem out of order but truly it isn't -
It fills in some missing information and provides more detailed background for some of the characters
(like the box - the guy running down the alley - don't want to give spoilers but for those who have read the series it fills in some blanks)
This is Kai and Amber's story
Kai is a soldier not a son of Sutkeh - this is an important piece of information and I am truly hoping that we get to see more of his "transition" as I think it will reveal more key players
Amber -
What she is .... Did not see that coming at all
Not sure how this is going to play in the bigger picture but it has to be a major kink in our antagonists' plans

The pacing was quite fast and from the very first page there was action. It felt like being thrown in at the deep end but it worked well for this book.

I liked the characters but I wish there was more information about them. Especially Sutekh, Asmodeus and the other demons of the Underworld.

Kai and Amber constantly flipped between trusting each other to not, again and again and it did get a little boring.

I did predict the plot twist but I was surprised by Amber's reaction. I thought she would run or kick off about it, but she didn't.

I also wanted to explore the Underworld some more and learn about the dynamics there.

I am curious enough that I think I'd read another book set in this world

This book is a novella that ties into the series but doesn't have to be read at any particular point. I wanted a quick read, so I decided to read this novella first, and I regret doing so. I think more context is needed, which I could probably gain from reading Sins of the Heart.

Overall, I really liked some concepts, but lacking context, I struggled to connect with the story and characters. The fact that Amber killed Kai and now he has returned was a very intriguing plot point. I would've expected him to be a little more bitter about it though!

The narrators did well, but I felt the voicing for Kai was really over-acted--think Christian Bale in Batman Begins.

I may come back and update this review after I read Sins of the Heart. I plan to read book 1 and then circle back to reread Sin's Daughter.

This novella is a prequel to the Otherkin series. Having read book 1, Sins of the Heart, first, it actually fits better as the 2nd read of the series as a number of the references to demons, Egyptian gods and otherwise make so much more sense if you've read at least one previous book in the series.

A novella/prequal is typically an appetizer of sorts. This story brings some depth to minor characters met in book 1, along with an intro to 2 new characters. Call this a side dish, if you will.

The world building and imagination in this series is amazing. I have already listened to Book 1 in this series and was pleasantly surprised that this was more of the type world same as Book 1. There were some characters you hear about interconnecting. The main couple and their love story was tragic and beautiful. This series is full of action, twists and turns sprinkled with some spice.
Lillian and Vincent do a great job with the narration as well.

This prequel is pretty good. I know nothing of this series and have started here, and I can honestly say it sets up for an intriguing and steamy storyline. A reaper and a demon's daughter. I wonder what shenanigans they'll get up to?

And the narrators were dazzling! I love audiobooks with dual POVs, gives it more depth.

I'd also recommend this to any lovers of paranormal romance. They'll be pleasantly surprised.

This book stands alone from the rest of the series, the only one that truly does, but is made more enjoyable if you read/have read the first book. I enjoyed the characters. The pace is fast moving and there is a significant story in addition to the romance between the main characters.

Loved the Worldbuilding

I loved Kai (male protagonist), and the worlbuilding of this novella. However, once I reached the end, the storyline felt a bit annoying. After all, everything happened because of a misunderstanding and the prejudice of Amber's mother. All of Amber's trauma and constant terror was created because her mother refused to get to know Amber's father after his true identity was revealed. I really want to slap that woman.

On the plus side, I truly enjoyed the fast-paced action and the goryish battles. And, of course, Kai. That man can suck my soul if he wishes.

Nifty Prequel Novella

Fifty years ago an act of betrayal led to the death of the only man Amber Hale ever allowed herself to love. Now she's on the run - again...still...always - and letting her guard down for just a blink of time almost seals her fate when the Hunters break into her apartment. She doesn't know why she's being hunted. For all that her mother instilled the deep fear of the Hunters long ago, Amber has never known why. She only knows she's been running her whole life...all one hundred or so years of it. She also doesn't know why she stopped aging when she was in her twenties, or why no matter the damage done to her, she can't be killed. A century of questions. No answers. Just endless running.

Until the night the Hunters broke in brandishing guns. She took out two of them, but there are more. As she maneuvers around to get a look at the rest of her small apartment, she's startled by the actions of one of the Hunters. He strides in and viciously attacks the other one. When he turns his head, Amber's ever-beating heart nearly stops. The man who she just watched slam a fist into the chest of a Hunter and rip out his heart...is Kai Warin. A man who was shot to death fifty years ago. The man she loved.

Eve Silver introduces readers to her Otherkin world with this action-packed prequel novella. While it's short on world-building, there's enough there to give you an idea of soul reapers and their backstory, and the smooth narrative and realistic dialogue shows off Silver's writing style and ability. The story arc was a bit condensed by necessity of length, but it still managed to be a satisfying read.

I was particularly pleased with how the romance was dealt with. I'm finicky about novellas that feature romances. Pushing characters together too quickly doesn't work for me. With the fifty year history between Amber and Kai, that issue was avoided and the relationship had a much more natural feel.

The ending of Sin's Daughter was abrupt, though, I have to admit. I wouldn't expect some long, drawn out ending for a novella, but in this case it was exceedingly short and choppy, and a bit anticlimactic on top of it. Most notably, it didn't come close to matching the intensity of the preceding action, and that was an issue that isn't impacted by the length of the novella. I also had one other slightly silly issue, but one I thought of often while reading. Amber is a century old, Kai would've been born sometime in the forties. Even if Amber wasn't born with the name "Amber" it's the one she used fifty years ago when she was with Kai and the one she's still using. Neither name seemed to fit with the time in which they were born and/or lived. They seemed far too modern. I feel almost ridiculous mentioning it, but for some reason, it was very jarring to me throughout the novella.

For a teaser, though, and a glimpse into the world of a series, it's a good effort. I was previously unfamiliar with Eve Silver's books, but based on what I read in Sin's Daughter, I'll be checking out the Otherkin Trilogy, starting with Sins of the Heart. I'm looking forward to seeing how Silver expands a plot into a full length novel.

Previous Series Title: Otherkin

Kai Warin awakens in the Underworld with the realization that his lover, Amber Hale, caused his death. Now he is a Reaper working for Osiris and Amber watches him kill a Hunter right in front of her. Thinking that Kai was the reason she was forced into hiding years ago, she tries to run from him, but he can't seem to let her go. Now they must run together to escape the forces chasing them.

Kai and Amber, a muddled history… who betrayed whom that fateful day? In “Sin’s Daughter” all is finally revealed! Completely enthralling, unbelievably emotional, fast moving and jam packed with betrayals, twists and stunning surprises, THIS hauntingly beautiful story has it ALL! As far as details … let’s not spoil the fun of this journey for others, but I will giddily admit I loved this story! I sat listening as the plot moved smoothly … then tension started building and I was holding on tight! At times my heart was in my throat, at others I breathed in relief, I was so invested, I had to know! I was completely hooked and enjoying every second of this beautifully written, magnificently narrated story! Along the way I came to know, love, and in some cases loathe, the beautifully designed, throughly developed characters! Let me say right here, right now, I love Kai and Amber. I was heavily invested in them from the get go, I was rooting for them, I wanted them together despite all odds, AND I wanted their happiness. Did I get what I wanted? You’ll have to listen because I can’t tell. That would be playing spoiler, but I will say that their journey and this story is sooo worth a listen. The narration that brings these characters and this story to life is exactly how the author intended it to be, heartbreaking, heartfelt, and stunning in it’s emotion and feeling! Close your eyes and YOU ARE THERE, watching the action unfold, hearing the scenes play out live! Absolutely stunning! The entire production is stunning and earns five perfect, stupendous stars! Every single second is MAGNIFICENT!

It was okay. The story happened in a two day span. Basically it gives the prolog of the boyfriend (Kai) dying and assuming that it was the result of his girlfriend Amber. But while dying he’s given a choice. So the story begins where Amber is running away from people she calls hunters. While defending herself someone comes to help to her so she assumed until the person takes his hand which have turned into claws and takes out the man’s heart. This person turns out to be Kai her ex-boyfriend. They are both upset with each other because they both assume that the other lead them to their death’s 50 years ago. Kai wants to know why the hunters are after her and while they are being chased both of them come clean about that night 50 years ago and Amber tells him that she cannot die and stopped aging at age 25. Kai revels he’s a soul reaper and the heart is for his master but he wants to find out what another demons wants from her. That night they have sex and next day basically she agrees it time to stop running and find out why the hunters are after her whom turns out that it is her father (a demon who cannot come above ground topside) who wants to get to know her. And that’s it the story concludes where they (Kai and Amber) are together while she is getting to know her father. That’s it. I thought there would have been more action and d a little more too why they wanted her.

I can't blame others who read this book first, because without the context of the other books, I may have felt the same way they did. However, I did read the other books first and saw this one after the fact. I loved the other books (for the most part) so was ok with how this one was written. Unlike the others, Kai and Amber did have a past...yeah, you don't really get much history into that past like how they met and fell in love, how and why he taught her to shoot, or exactly what happened when they both went to meet the other and Kai was killed. The book could have probably been longer with all of that, but since he is just a Reaper and not one of the brothers, I can see why the author made it short and sweet. Having a past just meant they needed to clear up the misunderstanding that stood between them. They both made assumptions (although I have to admit, hers was a bit weak given he would never have sent her Roses and she should have known that) which is what led them to where they are at. However, unless he died, she would have outlived him either way so I guess it was a good thing that he did die (just sucked that they lost 50 years). The ending definitely could have contained some more details too, but that didn't mean I didn't like this book.

I would suggest you read the other books first. Maybe I am just in the mood to be generous, but there are times when I do like short and sweet stories.
