Extreme Racing #1

Playboy Prankster

From zero to sixty in a heartbeat—if she doesn’t throttle him first.

When CJ Randall arrives in Nevada to cover the Celebrity Pro/Am Off Road Rally for DRIVE Magazine, she’s already stuck between a cactus and a hard place. Her boss has made it clear if this article doesn’t measure up, her job is wrecked. Then she gets a look at the “pro” half of her “am”: Tan. Rich. Overconfident. Unsuitable. Bachelor. Lacking. Ethics. T.R.O.U.B.L.E. She’s sworn off tall, dark and handsome men. Too bad the desert heat is making her hyperventilate like a hormone-crazed teenager.

Despite her makeup-free face and ready-to-go attitude—a far cry from the high-maintenance women he’s used to—Bryce Danvers doesn’t expect CJ to last an hour. To his surprise, she toughs out the entire day. The least he can do is show his appreciation with some fast food and a friendly kiss.

The instant their lips connect, warning klaxons go off in CJ’s head. He’s a taste of heaven she can’t afford to sample again.

Bryce finds himself wanting to give her generous curves a bumper-to-bumper inspection. And his focus on the checkered flag shot all to hell.

Warning: If you like your stories PG-13, this is not the book for you. If you like Boy Scout race car drivers with clean-cut reputations, you should pass. And if you like to breathe while reading, steer clear. Love, laughter and hot, hot, hot sex scenes will leave you gasping for air.

About the author

Pamela Britton

With over a million books in print, Pamela Britton likes to call herself the best known author nobody’s ever heard of. Of course, that’s begun to change thanks to a certain licensing agreement with that little racing organization known as NASCAR.

Nowadays it’s not unusual to hear her books being discussed by the likes of Jay Leno, Keith Olbermann, or Stephen Colbert. Flip open a magazine and you might read about her, too, in Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly, or Southwest Airlines’ Spirit Magazine. Channel surf and you might see her on CNN, ESPN, ABC or NBC.

But before the glitz and glamour of NASCAR, Pamela wrote books that were frequently voted the best of the best by The Detroit Free Press, Barnes & Noble (two years in a row) and RT BOOKclub Magazine. She’s won numerous writing awards, including the National Reader’s Choice Award, and a nomination for Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart and the Holt Medallion.

When not following the race circuit, Pamela writes full-time from her ranch in Northern California where she lives with her husband, daughter and, at last count, twenty-one four-legged friends.

If you'd like to chat with Pamela you can find her on her myspace where she loves to hangout with her readers.

Short story (~150 pages)
The main characters are only grossly depicted and do not have real flesh behind; they also behave inconsistently with what they are supposed to be. Their dialogues are probably supposed to sound like witty banter, but it's childish and falls short almost all the time. Given the inanity of what they talk about, I never believed for one instant in their attraction and then falling in love.
What else : I absolutely hate it when a female writer gives credence to PMS making women behave like the most highly emotional pregnant woman at the top of her hormon peak. Especially when this happens in a typically macho environment where no worthy heroine would daign let that happen. We've got almost 3 pages on that topic.
Definitely the worst book I've read from this author and probably the last, as it does not seem to improve over time (this one is more recent than the others).

A few quotes for the ride :
"She was a Chevy, he admitted. Plain exterior. Big engine. His gaze caught on her breasts. Big engines."
"Bryce couldn't really be staring at her like she was the oil in his motor."
"I just had sex with a man (the zhero) who's dipped his wick into more wax pots than a candle maker."
"He (the zhero in case you wondered) smelled like one of those pine-shaped car deodorants."

Lena’s Review:

CJ Randall has sworn to never fall for a guy and she has good reasons. Men are only good for one thing and even that is something worth holding her breath. She knows she’s not gorgeous like the blondes around Bryce Danvers or have the body like they do. So it baffles her why off-road race drive Bryce Danvers would want her. This guy is definitely sex on a stick and a devil in disguise.

Playboy Prankster is the first in Pamela Britton’s Extreme Racing series and it started off with a bang. Pamela Britton definitely has a heroine who is atypical in that she doesn’t consider herself sexy, but instead ugly. Now Bryce is the man who can make her feel beautiful in every way.

Playboy Prankster is the perfect title for Ms. Britton’s first book in the series because there are a lot of comedic scenes thanks to our hero, Bryce. Here is a guy who finally has a woman that doesn’t fall for his charms and it frustrates him. In my opinion, Pamela Britton did a great of making Bryce realize that all his tricks and schemes don’t compare to the feeling of falling in love with CJ.

Playboy Prankster is a well-written story that definitely involves a great deal of racing, speed, sex and a man who can tempt you in every way. Great job Ms. Britton.

This book was laugh out funny! My first by the author who normally writes NASCAR romances but this one is set for off road racing. The heroine is smart, funny and curvy. The banter between the hero and heroine made me grin. I could not put my Kindle down and it's been a long time since a book kept me this interested! The sexual tension between C.J. and Bryce was defiantly felt and I love how the author kept the sexual tension building till near then end. I can’t wait for the sequel!

Pamela Britton is one of my favorite romance writers. I rather enjoyed this book from her. I look forward to reading more in this series.

It was okay. It just seemed incredibly unbelievable. Danvers appears sweet at the start, but you never really get to know him.
