Forged in Fear

Rate this book
I've spent years as the dragons' plaything; something to be tortured, experimented on, and used in the worst of ways. But my salvation comes in the form of three identical faces, betraying their own kind.

They'll gamble their lives committing treason to hide me, but I'll risk everything to keep them safe.

Yet no matter how far I run, I can't truly escape. Something’s changing, and the triplets are the key. I'll be their ruin if stay, but I'll they’ll be mine if I don’t leave. I have to run, and once I start, I can never stop.
In a world where monsters don't fear the light, there's nowhere left to hide.

Contains:
*Overprotective triplets
*prank wars
*Men that adore her
*Multi POV

This is a humorous, HFN standalone, 18+ RH dragon shifter romance with darker themes. (PLEASE see note at bottom) Both books in this universe are HFN standalones that can be read independently, though to appreciate all of the cameo references, you may want to start with Forged from the Ashes. This means that I will wrap things up with our main characters' story, but leave an opening into bigger world problems. This book is more romance focused, and it’s just not their job to fix the whole world.

PLEASE NOTE: This book is meant to be a tale of finding your inner strength and healing, to learn how to laugh again after being trapped in the darkness for so long. While I would love for you to read my work, I encourage you to read the warning at the beginning of the book. (None of the traumatic events are described in detail, but they ARE referenced.)

Ok so this book is a standalone but it does happen right after Forged from the Ashes and it has a few of those characters (mainly Ezra and her men) make an appearance. This tale is based on Paige and the Veles triplets.

After she is broken out of the lab Paige is at the triplets' home convalescing with her broken leg she feels useless and is itching to help relieve any burden that she can. The brothers are taking a great risk at housing her and she feels that she is not worth it and is itching to relieve them of their burden. The Veles brothers are happy to have her there, though they keep their distance because of what Paige has been through. With the lack of communication, the two parties are walking a very strained path. As soon as she gets her cast off Paige takes off and she makes her own way, trying to prove to everyone including herself that she is not as useless as they think. A year passes and she finds herself back at the Veles' door but Paige is certainly not the same girl that left.

I loved this book so much! J Kearston has quickly become of my favorite authors and I look forward to all her books. She paints an incredible picture that unfolds so easily and seamlessly in front of you. The details are impeccable and the characters are brilliant! There are some very dark themes in this book but she manages to lighten the mood with incredible ease and wit. We need the dark themes so we can understand Paige, and where she comes from, but we need the wit from the boys to act as a balm and show us how they can heal her. I don't think I have laughed out loud as hard or as much in a while- and that is the honest truth! I could not contain it and I will always be wary of superglue from now on!!

The characters as a flight really go warm your heart and you can't help but root for them and wish them all the best. I love how the book ended, there was no other ending that could make it any better, and it was so natural and believable. There was nothing forced about this book which made for an easy read that you can get lost in. I love the take of the dystopian world mixed in with dragons, as it really does make it an original story to read, throw in the steamy RH factor and you've got a fantastic read. I highly recommend this book and urge everyone to pick it up!!

Another winner from J. Kearston!

Following Forged in Fire, we are this time following Ezra's brothers Kahl, Kinsley and Kaiden as they protect and hide Saige from the hunters seeking to return her to captivity. Running from the evil group of humans set on breeding their own race of captive dragons.

All I can say is WOW! This was a great follow-up to Forged in Fire, and while I would have loved for there to be a sequel, I was very happy with the parallel storyline. There was enough crossover with Eli that I didn't feel as if I was standing on a familiar street looking at unknown houses.

J. Kearston proves time and again that the art of crafting a rich, in-depth character and weaving a compelling tale around said character is a whole next level, and raises the bar for other authors who hope to make their mark in this genre. I don't have to see the cover, read the blurb or search reviews... if I see J. Kearston listed as the author, it's a book I read.

This is another great read from this author and although it can be read as a standalone from book one you will be missing out if you don’t read it! Anyways this is well written, it’s funny, it’s an 18+ RH dragon shifter romance with darker themes and had me hooked all the way through. Set in an dystopian dragon world this is highly entertaining and full of twists and turns and surprises. Great storyline, great strong characters, this is a great read!

I really loved Forged from the Ashes, and I couldn't wait for the next book to come out to read it, especially after I found out it was about the triplet. However, I was left quite disappointed. I felt like it didn't have the same "edginess" and discovery that I found in the first book. It's still good, but not at the same level of book 1.

Saige is not human anymore. The experiments run on her changed her, and now she's a sort of hybrid. She has feelings for the triplet, and they have feeling for her but it's a sort of continuous "Saige runs and the triplet runs after her" type of thing.

Great book

Saige is human and recovering after escaping the mountain. She is such an amazingly strong woman to survive what she has been put through. Great choice in main character, especially her inner monologue- love her sharpshooting mind.
Kinsley, Kaiden & Kahl the triplets, look after Saige while she recovers from her injuries.
I love that we see their Younger brother Elias and Sister Ezra - also her flight.
Love the one liners throughout this book, like “No wonder you were so mopey; you have an STD.”
This book is very well written, in a way you just fall into the storyline. There are lows and highs, sadness and happiness.
Overall a great book.

Forged in Fear by J. Kearston is the second book in her Wings of War series, but not. This book is more of a temporary branch off to focus on Ezra’s brothers and their new mate.
Honestly, when I saw this book and that it was the next in the series I was so excited to being returning to Ezra’s story. So when I saw that this story was less about Ezra and more about the human found and her connection to the brothers...I was a bit disappointed. I loved the first book, and I’ve been eagerly watching and waiting for the next book to come along.
For me, this book starts out a bit too slow for my liking. I think that a bit of a prologue would have been a good idea to give readers a bit of background about Saige before diving into this book fully. A prologue would have helped develop Saige’s story while reminding readers what last transpired for Saige to cross paths with the brothers.
After a few chapters this book picks up the pace and things get really interesting. Once that happens I become more engaged in the story line and where things are moving. I’m not going to drop any spoilers, but I love the twists and the surprises. I like how we do get some glimpses of Ezra and her men and get to see the brothers cut loose a couple of times.
There is a lot of ebb and flow in the story line and with the characters. Sometimes it’s a good things and then other times it caused me to lose interest a bit in the story. There were a couple of situations with the characters that I didn’t fully like, but that’s honestly to be expected concerning the situations.
All in all, I’m choosing to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I struggled with the pace a bit too often for my liking. At times it felt like the author struggled with hitting their stride with this book and it shows in places. Since this book is a “stand-alone” addition, it has a nice little “happy ending.” There are quite a few good moments in this book I just wish that the story had felt more pulled together and flowed like the first in the series.

A great standalone book set into the same world as Forged from the Ashes, even featuring the characters from the book but with focus on different set of characters.
Completely different to Ezra's story yet the main elements remain. Saige is a female, meaning she is seen as a rare commodity in this power hungry world, and that puts her into a dire situation. Being human, she had to undergo a real torture in captivity, including experiments on her - and the effects of the experiments start to show now. She is changing, and the change might even get her in more danger than before.
Even though the focus of the book is on the romance aspect and the development of the relationships, acceptance of oneself and building self confidence, as well as learning how to deal with the past and enjoy the present, there is enough action, tension, and even fun moments to drive the story forward. There are even some eye opening moments (when you realize you definitely don't want to get glued to someone else by any means :D ). But in general I love that Saige is here the driving force, the one who has everything in her hands, and even though sometimes forced, she takes the time she needs to get accustomed to the changes in her life and adapts in a great way - Tim is a great example in the end. I really enjoyed the book.

We actually got to meet Saige in book one, Forged from the Ashes along with Ezra's brothers, Kaiden, Kinsley, and Kahl. After what happened in book one, Saige had a broken lead and the triplets took her in so she could heal. But she's finding it hard to trust them after what she's been through, and she thinks that because she's just a human they are going to kick her out the minute she's healed and she will do anything to keep them safe and takes matters into her own hands and leaves of her own accord.

I really enjoyed getting to know all of these characters a little more throughout the story and I thought they were all perfect for each other. Saige goes through a lot in the story, and so do the triplets. They are definitely on the overprotective side, but wouldn't you be in the messed-up dystopian world the author has created. If it ever comes to a point of having to choose between the boys I'm definitely going with the whychoose option cause each guy is loveable in their own way.

Also the pranks that are pulled in this book left me in stitches, while some of the book is serious with what is going on with Saige, the pranks definitely helped to lift the mood.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

This is a great addition to the world we were introduced to in Forged in Fire with Ezra and her men. Each book works as a stand alone but it is so much better if you read book one first. We meet Saige as she recuperates at the home of the Veles triplets after they rescue her from a research facility. As a human she knows she cannot stay as it would put them all at rick but at the same time she doesn't really want to leave. The triplets want her to stay as well but after she had no choices before they are determined to let her do as she wants so they let her go yet they do what they can to keep her safe once she does so. What they don't know is that they unwittingly created a flight bond that is bringing out a dragon in her that they had no clue existed. This makes things quite interesting as she returns a year later so they can figure it all out. Full of surprise twists as well as a feel good romance at the same time making for quite the enjoyable read. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

This book is technically a standalone, but I would definitely recommend reading book 1 in the series first.
I loved this book, it carries on where book 1 left off and it's all about Ezra's triplet brothers.
Saige was found in the last book when the guys were rescuing their sister but is human and needs to be kept hidden. As much as she wants to stay, she knows she must leave before she is found out. But it’s only after she leaves that she realises that they had triggered a mate bond, so then she tries to return, only she's not the same person anymore in more than one way.
Saige has been through so much and yet she is determined to survive. She may have gone through hell but she has definitely kept her humour, it was great to see it sprinkled throughout the book, especially with the prank wars the triplets seem to have with most of the town.
The triplets are overprotective, but still try and let her do things her own way. They want to make big changes in the way the world is run but know it can only be done in small steps.
I loved the epilogue at the end.

Alright, so this book is technically another standalone, but follows the events of Forged In Fire. Can I just say, J. Kearston is one of my favorite authors, and I’m in love with this world. I absolutely love the characters and books so much. The story line is phenomenal and the characters are real, and relatable, gripping you and pulling you into the story to feel their emotions with them, on The rollercoaster of feelings this book inspires. Saige has one traumatic past that she can’t quite escape from, and it’s constantly one thing after the next, keeping her from ever relaxing. The triplets and Saige all have inner turmoil on the whole situation, that they need to work through, but lack of communication can wreak havoc on anyone. Which it does. Saige is thrown into something that she, and they, never expected, and now they’re all left to try and sort out the chaos. But will that happen before they lose the chance? I guess you better read it to find out. 😉

Awesome love story!
I looooove this book (and series) it was just so cool, and I just love the FMC so much. She is so independent and wants what’s best for her guys which I admire.

This series brings such a cool take on dragons, with epic world-building, but a soft romantic core that melts my heart. A bonus is that each one can be read as a standalone!

The plot of this kind of takes off where book 1 left off, but with different characters (that we have met before), and this style really suits this series.

The journey, mental and physical our FMC goes on through this book is impressive and I really love her development, but it also pulls at my heartstrings because some moments just seem so sad and hopeless. I both loved and hated this, because it hurt, but also kudos on the great writing!

I can’t wait for the next book and am excited to see where the overarching plot is heading because it feels like it’s going to be brilliant.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "FORGED IN FEAR"
This is one unique interesting, intriguing, story that grabs you from beginning to end the story pulls you right in with well developed characters you can't get enough of.
Saige is human she's been broken out of a lab where she was experimented on taken to the Veles brother's triplets Kahl, Kaiden & Kingsley home to let her broken leg heal their taking risk having her there when her leg is better she runs away.
Saige arrives a year later not the same girl who ran away at Veles triplets doorstep because the dragons triggered a mate bond between them, she'd been through so much but she was determined to survive.
I definitely recommend to get this amazing humorous witty book with laugh out loud moments the storyline PHENOMINALLY well written the characters are so great they pull you tight into all chaos I'm so looking forward to next book to see what's going up happen.

Although this book picks up where Forged from the Ashes finishes, it can be read as a stand alone. Reading Ashes first will add a lot of background, and depth to some of the running jokes - and it's a great book - but you can dive straight into Forged in Fear without missing any plot points.

Saige has been experimented on and tortured by dragons, and is recovering with the help of the Veles triplets - Ezra's brothers from the first book. As a result, we have a FMC who's a really tough cookie, but most people treat like she's made of glass while she deals with the lasting impact of the experiments and what they mean for both her and the greater dragon population.

Overall, it's a fun story, and I'd love to see more of this world in the future.

I found this book very entertaining! I loved the mix of a dystopian world and dragons with Kearston’s twist on it all. It was filled with action, pranks, steam, and plenty of men. But even though this book is humorous, there are some very dark themes within.
The main character Saige is a human that was rescued from a place where she was experimented on and after breaking a leg when she escaped she stayed with three hunky brothers while she healed. The brothers are risking a lot letting Saige stay because if she is caught she could be killed. After Saige’s leg heals she feels like she is a burden to the brothers and decides to leave on her own.
This book had some humour in it in the form of pranks and they were pretty funny. If you love dragons and dystopian stories you should check out this book!

So technically this can be read as a standalone, but it does follows events of Forged from the Ashes. But I did liked there was enough crossover with Ezra that I didn't feel as if I was scrambling to reconnect the dots. I will however recommend that you do read the books in order to better make sense on what's going on. Overall I found this book to be very enjoyable and entertaining read! I loved the mix of a dystopian world with dragons but with a twist. It had action, intrigue, steamy encounter, and laugh out loud moments. Even with the add it humor their were dark elements within still made for a helluva read. Can't wait to see what going to happen next in series. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

I loved getting more from this series! I loved that we get more from this world and seeing more from Saige and the triplets. Saige really is put through so much and the Triplets are walking on eggshells trying to do what they think is best for her. This series can be read as a standelone but reading the first book in the world is a good idea to get more of the background. With that being said this book does a great job with filling in some blanks.

Kahl, Kaiden and Kinsley want to keep Saige around even though she is a human however Saige thinks they all don't want to be around her. They all have some blinders on and their progression throughout the book was amazing to watch. There is plenty of steamy, humor but there is also some dark moments. After the surprise twist we got with this book I am excited to see what will happen next in this world!

I loved this book. Forged in fear is a standalone, but it follows on from Forged from the ashes, but this one follows the triplets and Saige.
I love that it's a different take on a dystopian world, and it has dragons in!

After rescuing Saige, the triplets look after her while her broken leg is healing. Because of Saiges traumatic past, her and the guys don't communicate as well as they could have. So she decides she needs to leave once her leg is healed, as they could get into a lot of trouble for having a human in their town, and she could be killed just for being there.

I love that no matter what surprises they encounter, they are 100% there for each other, whether she's human or not. I loved everything about this book, and I can't wait too see where J Kearston goes next!

Ohh I loved this book! This is right after Forged from the Ashes but it is a standalone. But I think it's best to read them in order to make more sense of what's going on in my opinion. Saige was rescued from the lab Ezra was taken too. The brothers take care of her until she's all healed and sets off by herself. But when you find your mates you always come back to them in the end. There's a lot of tension, sexual tension between this flight that's for sure! It's really the unknown. Saige and her dragon grow agitated everyday and the men are getting increasingly annoying. Ha! And learning to heal from ones past and learn to love yourself is a big deal throughout this book. But the ending, you get a good chuckle out of it. Can't wait to see what's next in this world of dragons.

Loved the continured story line of Forged from the Ahses. This story's continuation focus on the triplet brothers of Ezra when they connect with Saige who had been kept in the lab Ezra's family and flight helped her escapte from with Saige's help. Since Saige had been a prisoner for so long, her trust issues create the foundation for the story and the character building, as well as the world building, make a great read.

Amid all the escapades of growth and trials, humor is worked in and the prank loving triplets help Saige to let loose and show a more playful side. This dystopian world of dragons is well written. I think you'll enjoy it if you enjoy this genre quite well, and if you're new to the genre, I think you'll like it as well. Enjoy!

A great addition to the Wings of War series

Sadie, a a human experimented on by dragons, has spent the time since her rescue with the dragon triplets, Kahl, Kaiden, and Kinsley, trying to heal from a broken leg and the torture she endured. As the story progresses a new path is taken, a change is shaking, and keeping everything together is more difficult than breaking. J. Keaston’s Forged from Fear is a great addition to the Wings of War series, adding to the lovable cast of characters. The realizations they come to allow for series growth and different battles to be fought as each dragon finds their mate.

I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

Second book in the series. Humans pissed off the dragons and now the Hunter is the hunted. Dragons rule but even they are losing. Females are rare for all. We met Saige in the first book. She is human but she was experimented on and doesn’t know what that will mean. Her past is terrible. The things they did to her haunt her when she sleeps and when she is awake. Then there are the three men who are brothers and dragon shifters. They would lay down their lives for her but at the same time she would never bring them more problems. The world is a dangerous place for all females. Can they keep her safe or will she always be running? The story is amazing and so in-depth. The love only builds as well as does the bonding of a family.

Another great addition to this dragon series. This mixes the best of post-apocalyptic scenarios with true mate bonds.

The main character is fierce and flawed with a lot of self-doubt after going through so much. The triplets deserve a mate and are determined to show her just how perfect they can be together.

This book has a lot more patience and softness to it, which is necessary with all the backstory involved. I really enjoyed watching the relationships grow and evolve.

With this family, of course, there are some hilarious pranks and belly laugh moments. I especially enjoyed the superglue incident, lol.

After meeting Ezra’s brothers in the previous book, I was really hoping that they’d get one of their own. But in my wildest imaginings, I never pictured that it would be anything like this. Their story pulled me in from the very beginning and I couldn’t flip pages fast enough to devour it. This is such a unique look at dragons, shifters, and even politics. Nothing in this book played out the way I thought it would, and now I can’t wait to see what the author is going to do with the rest of this world. There are still so many possibilities and questions I’d love to know the answers to.

I have been excitedly waiting for this book after reading Forged in Ashes and boy was this brilliant! I was not disappointed at all. Saige is one tough cookie, she’s been through so much and needs to learn how to be loved again and watching her grow through the pages was great. She’s a wonderfully crafted character and Kearston does a great job of making Saige relatable and loveable. And the triplets... WOW. Sign me up! They were awesome, they were well written, compassionate, strong, steamy, completely loveable and three very different characters that worked well together. This was a great page turner and I am definitely adding this series to one of my favourites of the year!

I was gifted this book by the author. Saige was the human that helped Ezra escape the testing site in book one. She is offered shelter by the Veles triplets while she recovers from a broken leg. She runs from them and lives on the streets after realizing she depended on them too much. After one year, she finally makes her way to them. They love her, she loves them, but both have major trust issues. Also, Saige seems to have developed some new traits.

This story is an example of how everyone is different and wishes for "more". How species evolved and changed. Definitely worth reading!

Hate spoilers in reviews so I’m not going to leave any but what I will say is WOW! just WOW! Saige’s story has had me gripped from start to finish, wrapping around me like a glove on a cold day and keeping me totally enthralled. J. Kearston has once again woven a fantastic novel that had me transported to Hadeon as if I was actually there. Her books keep on exploring the boundaries of imagination and I for one am delighted to tag along for the ride! Another amazing read that I highly recommend!

Wow Saige is an interesting character, she is strong, almost too resilient. Both her and the guys are too stubborn. If they had just opened up even a little maybe they would have figured out a better way? All through out it's a constant misfire of communication, but then again that is what makes it a story. Their antics are hilarious and their pranks on Ezra are fantastic, not that she doesn't return the favor. As always Kearston writes a fun and heartwarming tale with twists and turns you don't always see coming. I would pick up her books any day.
