Meeting Jesus is the first step in a journey that is always filled with struggles as well as blessings, with setbacks as well as miracles. But no matter how hard the race, you can win it. You can cross the finish line filled with joy and confidence. You can know victory in Jesus.
The Rev. E.V. Hill was the pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. He rose from poverty in Texas to become a confidant of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and a power within one of the nation's largest African American denominations.
Hill was known as a preacher whose sermons could thunder with righteousness even as he could listen with a pastor's heart. Bishop Charles E. Blake, pastor of West Angeles Cathedral in Los Angeles and a leader in another predominantly African American denomination, the Church of God in Christ, called Hill "one of the most significant personalities in the clergy over the past 30 or 40 years."
"He was a great preacher, a tremendous preacher," Blake said, "and a common man's theologian."
If the Lord sends you a blessing, you can be certain He didn't have you in mind as the end result. He's just trying to get it through you to somewhere else. And I want to tell you some- thing, if He can get it through you, He'll send it to you. That's why He hasn't sent some people any blessings. They'd get it and build a dam and dam it up and can it up and sit on the can.
Spirit-filled compilation of preachings by the late E.V. Hill. Reading it comforted me, challenged me, made me repent, and ignited a desire within me to love God more. If these preachings had that much impact written, what more if they were spoken? E.V. Hill's writings are not "fire and brimstone" preachings, but they are a mirror to your soul and God's heart for His people. I cried reading the last essay where E.V. Hill recounts God's work in his life when his wife died. Every Christian should read this book.
