A Certain Kind of Hero: An Anthology

Rate this book
Two bad boys find redemption when they become unlikely heroes to two very special women and their families. Don't miss these romantic favorites from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Kathleen Eagle!

Defender

Gideon Defender understood hard choices. Innocent and pure, Raina McKenny had deserved someone better than him, so he'd stepped aside and watched her marry his brother. He'd stayed away when they adopted a baby and created the perfect life he could never offer her. Now, fifteen years later, Raina had returned to the reservation a widow with her fatherless teenage son in tow, and Gideon faced the toughest choices of his life. Between desire and duty, between condemnation and trust, between fatherhood and honor…and even between life and death.

Broomstick Cowboy

Amy Becker needed a man. Tate Harrison wouldn't have been her first choice…but then, her first choice had gone and died, leaving her pregnant, broke and on the verge of losing everything. Surprisingly, Tate was a good father figure to her children, a tireless worker and far too tempting during those long winter nights. But Tate wasn't one for roots; he was hers only until spring. Unless she could convince him to stay.

Western Romance at It’s Best

I’ve always enjoyed Ms. Eagle’s books, and this one did not disappoint. If you love strong heroes and women who are their match, you’ll enjoy these two stories.

A reread for me. Really liked both stories. They are both older but worth a read if you come across them. I got this at my library, not sure how available it is for purchase.

Defender is the story of Gideon who stepped aside as a younger, troubled man and the girl married his brother. Now Raina is back visiting the reservation with her (adopted) son after her husband died. She and Gideon are working out their relationship in the midst of political trouble for the tribe. Gideon has been through a lot since they broke up 15 years ago. He's grown up and come out a much better man. Raina seems not to have changed as much - she didn't really have to. But when her son is threatened, she learns a lot. Gideon is a good hero - sexy, good to Raina, and a great role model to Peter. His dead brother sounds like a real wet blanket, but thankfully isn't vilified.

Broomstick Cowboy is super good. A similar story in that Amy and Tate had been in love (lust) when they were younger. He wanted to leave town, she wanted to stay, so she chose his best friend instead. Now her husband is dead and Tate is back to help her. I loved his relationship with her young child and the birth of the new baby and how he took such good care of her was so sweet. The breastfeeding scene was amazing! I thought Amy was an idiot for choosing the friend in the beginning, but she definitely learned her lesson and didn't just fall into convenience with Tate. It was obvious they really loved each other.

There are two novels in this one. I liked the first novel better than the second. Even so, they were both very good
Kathleen never fails to deliver to her readers exactly what they are looking for.
