(Sequel to MURDER SUSPECT - guilty until proven innocent)
Monday morning Jimmy sat up in bed putting his hand to the back of his neck feeling the cold, damp, sweat. He'd just awoke from a recurring dream that usually forebode traumatic experiences about to happen in his life, as if the last few weeks hadn't been a nightmare scenario risking life and limb investigating the criminal organisation he worked for called The Firm.
Jimmy had been arrested and subsequently charged with the murder of two pensioners that rented a flat from The Firm. Jimmy believed it must have been somebody in The Firm that had set him up for the murders. Eventually he had enough evidence to risk a confrontation with the boss of The Firm. First he was threatened with death but ended up being offered a better job with the gang working directly for the main man who proved to Jimmy that his organisation had nothing to do with framing him with the murders.
Jimmy learned just two days ago from the leader of a dodgy police unit nicknamed the GHOST SQUAD investigating his case that it was them that had manipulated the evidence to frame Jimmy for the murders. They had been trying for years to get evidence on The Firm and had seized the opportunity to set Jimmy off uncovering a web of criminal activity. Having admitted to Jimmy what they had done the DCI in charge of the GHOST SQUAD then had the audacity to ask Jimmy to accept the job offer from The Firm and work undercover as a SPUD (Special Undercover Detective) for the GHOST SQUAD feeding back the evidence that would finally bring down the biggest ever criminal organisation in the country.
Jimmy still can't believe he'd said yes. He now had two jobs, two very dangerous jobs. If The Firm found out what he was up to he was dead meat, and if he got himself in trouble with the law, the GHOST SQUAD would deny any knowledge of who he was and what he was doing - being between a rock and a hard place didn't quite cover it. Jimmy knew the last few weeks meddling in the criminal organisation's business trying to prove his innocence would be like a Sunday School Picnic compared to what lay ahead of him in the weeks to come. Soon he would be embroiled in drug smuggling, money laundering, and murder, and have to deal with a live ghost from his past. 369 pages, Paperback
