Denise Skelton is an avid reader who's often found reading four or five books simultaneously. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Denise is a part of a close-knit family and is lovingly supported by her husband, three daughters and two sons. Skelton draws inspiration from everyday life. As a US Army veteran, and former private investigator, who's just about seen it all, she often awakes with exciting new creative ideas flowing through her mind like a river of words.
Acclaimed author Holly Chase Williams, said, "The emotional satisfaction you experienced as My Everything's mysteries were solved and the conflicts resolved stuck with you long after you turned the final page".
5.0⭐️ This is a beautiful, thoroughly engaging romantic love story between two people from different racial backgrounds, as well as different social and economic strata. What really impressed me about the book is the notions of true respect, love, communication and decency that is a focal point throughout the story. Additionally, I found the book to be well-crafted with great pacing and plotting.
Deanna is a hardworking middle-class black woman who runs her deceased father's PI business, and she's built a reputation as being very good at her job. Benjamin, on the other hand, is a very wealthy white businessman who took control of his family's multi-million dollar business and other family responsibilities when his father died. These two people are so very, very likeable, as well as their close family and supportive friends. The villains, as always, were true to form.
Reading this book gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling--you know the feeling one gets when relaxing with a hot cup of cocoa and a favorite movie on a cold winter night. As I reminisce about this book, it suddenly struck me that many more recently written IR books featuring a BW, seem to be lacking the romantic element in a significant way, giving rise to sex, more sex, a few pages of plot, very little character development, and yes, more sex. Don't get me wrong--I love steamy, sexually explicit IR romances, and I love numerous sexual encounters between the IR couple, but I never want a character development and a plausible plot that advances the story to be sacrificed (the exception would be a purely erotic novel). I sort of miss that wine me, dine me and dazzle me kind of romance in a lot of our IR books--oh, well.
NB: I purchased the original trade paperback book in 2006. It is now available for Kindle purchase on Amazon and sports a different cover.
Benjamin Harrison's sister Lisa has leukemia and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. When Ben's marrow isn't a match for his sister's it would seem that there is no hope. That is, until Ben learns that his father had had an affair and somewhere he had a half-sibling. Ben hires a private detective, Deanna Meyers, to find this sibling he never knew in hope so saving his sister. The entire family is about to get a few surprises. Ben is about to find the love of his life.
My Everything is a love story that is founded around a good deal of drama. Both the Harrison and Meyers families and those they love are going through family difficulties. Ben is having a little problem breaking off a relationship with his ex. In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, Ben and Deanna find a quiet ease together that just seems to fit.
Wow, what a refreshing book. A heroine that is still a virgin, but is more woman than any of those in those erotic books that's trying to be romance but comes off as porn. she is confident and has her stuff together. a heroine I can truly respect and admire. I always say, having sex does not make one a woman, just sexually experienced.
The hero, what can I say, now this is what I called a real man. who wouldn't want a man like him. he never pressured her. when they made love it was on her timeline and decision.
This book made me laugh, cry, smile, it just gave me that aw feeling. Beautiful, beautiful romance, even though it had me blubbering like a baby.
Thank you Miss Skelton:)
One thing though, she should not have had to leave the room. He should of kicked that ex to the curb right in front of her :D
Ben met Dee when he hired her to find his sister. The high powered executive and the feisty PI had little in common but were instantly smitten. However, Ben and Dee had outside forces determined to keep them apart. Ms. Skelton gives us really funny dialogue and engaging characters….some intense action and heart. Great story.
Okay I'm going to keep this short. Its not that there's anything wrong with the book so much as its just seriously trite. Everything that happens is kind of predictable. Even the things that they say to each other. Him always coming to her defense in a certain way in certain settings it's all so.... well its just all been done before. There is nothing really out of the ordinary about any of the details in the story right down to the dialog. Okay maybe his ex is a little bit more of her nut than the usual in a love story, but still pretty textbook.
Just a few small spelling and grammar errors that I picked up on. Definitely nothing that put me off getting into the flow of things. So points for that. Its just that everything that happens is so text book romantically perfect it kinda left nothing to capture my imagination or immerse myself in.
4 stars. I have to admit, the cover does not do justice with the story, sorry. But the story was compelling and romantic. It had a little like who, what, yeah okay. I kept making guess who the person was talking on the phone or who that person was seeing in the hotel. Ben and Dee were such a lovely couple. Holly and Edmond adorable. Terry and Janet, man, I would definitely beat the crap out of them and go to jail with a smile in my face. Bravo to Ms. Skelton a very good book. Thank you.
Talk about crazy!!! I don't even know where to start. This book was stupid good. The story was great and real. Dee and Ben had a great relationship. You felt the love pouring from the pages!! Terry was a trip. I would have slapped her a long time ago. Janet, that heifer needed a straight jacket and padded cell!!! The only thing I didn't like was the changing of POV's. It was random and you're going back rereading cause you like what what happen??? Overall very good book!!
