Competitive barrel racer Lacey Bishop has worked her way from homelessness and poverty to needing only a few points to qualify for the National Rodeo Finals when her only horse suffers a career-ending injury. Without the money to buy a new horse, Lacey has no choice but to trust an offer from Two Rivers Ranch to lease one of their best barrel-racing horses.

Horse trainer Wil Rivers is working hard to get her family’s ranch profitable again after the coronavirus pandemic shut them down for more than a year. Her best chance to save the ranch from foreclosure is a million-dollar-plus offer to buy the one barrel horse that could defeat the mare she’s leased to the bewitching Lacey Bishop.

When Lacey discovers Wil’s plan to sell the Two Rivers “money” horse to her fiercest competitor, she sees their chance for a future together and her chance to qualify for the finals disappearing in the rodeo arena dust.

D. Jackson Leigh grew up barefoot and happy, swimming in farm ponds and riding rude ponies in rural south Georgia. Her love of reading was nurtured early on by her grandmother, an English teacher who patiently taught her to work New York Times crossword puzzles in the daily paper, and by her mother who stretched the slim family budget to bring home grocery store copies of Trixie Belden mysteries and Bobbsey Twins adventures that Jackson would sit up all night reading.

It was her passion for writing led her quite accidentally to a career in journalism and, ultimately, North Carolina where she lives with her small pack of three terror, uh, terriers.

Lacey Bishop has been on her own for most of her life. Her worldly possessions are her barrel racing horse Denver and her truck with an attached horse trailer/camper combination. Lacey owns no forwarding address. While competing in rodeo’s throughout the season she meets horse trainer Wil Rivers. There is an instant attraction between the two women that they cannot resist.

It has been some time since I have read a D. Jackson Leigh novel and I have no legitimate reason why. Her stories are always well researched and quite well written. In my absence and with this novel I see a certain new gravitas in her work that is absent from earlier books. This story is made richer for it.

This is an insta love romance which appears early and heats up quickly. I can imagine with the transitory lifestyle of following the rodeo that lovers must make the most of the little time they have together. The barrel racing scenes are exciting and fun to read. The ex girlfriend of Wil is too far over the top in her villainy for my liking. Others may think differently.

Not for the first time a story by D. Jackson Leigh is set in equestrian sports. Her love for it is shown in the story. This time it is about different disciplines in the rodeo sport, mainly barrel racing. As a Swiss, I don't know much about rodeos, so it was once again exciting for me to read a story set in this environment. And who knows, maybe I can visit a rodeo on a trip to the USA, as I always wanted to become a riding and lassoing cowgirl as a child.

Lacey Bishop is a professional barrel racer, her big goal is the Nationals at the end of the season. Growing up in humble circumstances, she was abandoned by the most important people at an early age. With no family and hardly any friends, she is on her own, both in her job and in life. Her horse Denver is the most important partner in her life and her home is her horse trailer/camper. The disappointments of being abandoned are deeply ingrained and trust in others is virtually a foreign word to her.

Wil Rivers runs the Two Rivers Ranch with her father, where they breed and train horses for the various rodeo disciplines. But the ranch is still suffering financially from the effects of the pandemic. Wil desperately needs to sell a few horses to have any chance of keeping the ranch.

From a distance, Wil and Lacey have seen each other many times at rodeos but had never spoken. When the two finally meet, sparks fly from the start. The attraction is instant, and the chemistry between the two is crackling, but Wil only wants a real relationship or none at all, and Lacey doesn't dare commit thanks to her fears of loss. Not the best conditions for a healthy relationship. And then there's rich, spoiled Brittney, who tries to trip them both up with nasty tricks.

Both women are interesting and likable characters who struggle with prejudice, rash assumptions, fears of loss, and financial burdens as well. Lacey, who bubbles with confidence in sports but still has a lot to learn when it comes to love and trust, doesn't make it easy for Wil to woo her. But Wil's struggles are also real, worrying about her father and the ranch weigh heavily on her and she has difficult decisions to make. But Wil is determined to win the woman and keep the ranch, giving it her all. Seeing how the two of them grew from the tasks and challenges was nice.

The rodeo circus is exciting and the horses were beautiful, important, and game-changing second characters. Lovable human supporting characters are also very well integrated into the story and had quite a big impact.

This is a story about Lacey Bishop who is professional horse barrel racer. She’s on the rodeo circuit living out of her horse trailer/camper. Going from town to town living a solitary life. Wil Rivers is in partnership with her dad running a horse ranch. They raise and train their horses to be very competitive in the rodeo circuits in various competitions. Lacey and Wil meet at a rodeo and it’s instant attraction. This story has a few plot twists with some bad people trying to separate Lacey and Wil and some great people trying to keep them together.

Lacey’s constant insecurities and mistrusts got old for me in this book. But Wil was a great character full of charm and compassion. Yes the sex and I-love-yous came way to quick for me but overall it was a good read.

I’ve ridden a barrel horse and I have felt the speed of when they take off after each turn, it very exciting. So the horse scenes in this book were my favorite parts. Lacey’s horse, Denver, seems like the perfect horse.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Wil and Lacey notices each other from afar but never interact until now when Wil comments to Lacey she going to win barrel race. Wil is struggling to keep her and father Double R Ranch from going back into the red when the pandemic happened they lost a lot and also when her father fell ill and almost didn’t make it. Lacey been own her since she was a teen and is becoming a rising star in barrel racing that she lives off those earnings she doesn’t gets close to anyone because she doesn’t trust they will stay but she does have a few people in her corner that she let’s get close to her to a extent. She and Wil gets to know each other Wil is honest about what she wants and she gives Lacey an out if she doesn’t want the same thing but Lacey is willing to try. I enjoy this read but I was at one point wanted Wil to cut her losses with Lacey because the first sign of trouble she runs even though she knew this person had their own agenda of not wanting Wil with her and I understand why but it’s just seems a excuse because Wil has been upfront with her from the beginning.

D. Jackson Leigh has created another winner with her newest novel, Here for You. I love to read stories with animals as secondary characters, and I can always count on that with this author.

In this book we meet Lacey Bishop, a competitive barrel racer who makes her living (barely) on the rodeo circuit, traveling around the country from one rodeo to another with her horse Denver. Then she meets Wil (Wiloree…I love that name) Rivers, an occasional rodeo contestant and co-owner of a ranch that raises and sells trained horses. Lacey begins to hope that she might have found “the one” for her. If only life, love, and the sport of rodeo were that easy.

This is a sports related romance that you are going to totally enjoy. It has characters, both human and animal that you will fall in love with. The tale of these two women finding each other and navigating the pitfalls that could derail their romance will keep you glued to the pages. The rodeos are well described. It’s almost like you are right there with Lacey and Wil.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. I recommend it to all who love rodeos, horses, and happy-ever-afters.

I grew up attending the annual rodeos in my father’s small hometown. It was always a festive and family reunion activity. I read this book with those happy memories in my thoughts. Lacey Bishop is a competitive barrel racer in the top ten in the country. She’s been on her own since she was 16 and literally lives in a camper/horse trailer as she travels between rodeos. Wil Rivers is a horse trainer. She runs the Two Rivers Ranch with her father putting out some of the best horses in the country. Unfortunately the ranch is still trying to recover economically from the impact of coronavirus pandemic.

The attraction is instant between the two but some of the courting has to be done over the phone as Lacey continues the rodeo circuit. I liked seeing Lacey trying to trust in her new feelings. I enjoyed learning more about barrel racing although much of it I knew. I thought there was a missed opportunity to not make more of going of making it to Nationals because it is a main side plot. Overall I thought the story was nice and maybe simplistic, especially with the rushed ending. I thought it interesting that Leigh includes Covid in this plot as she did in her last book. (3.5 Stars)

Horses and a slow burn f/f romance
In my opinion D. Jackson Leigh is at her best when the story centers around horses. Her romance Here For You is a good example how she meshes her deep love and understanding of horses, horse-people and horse(wo)manship with a sexy romance.
I really liked how we get to know the characters, their backgrounds, their families / found families and their history. The romance is character-driven, likely and not only sexy but has depth in it. The addition of a rich-brat as arch-nemesis added a good pinch of spice.
I liked the descriptions of competition at rodeo circuit and would have liked to know a bit more about the finals. The conclusion was nevertheless satisfying and I loved how trust was build.

This book drew me in because of the horses! I'm still a horse girl after all of these years! I don't know much about barrel racing or the rodeo, but the book seemed very well researched and plausible. I enjoyed reading about the different aspects of barrel racing, and I was excited to read about this environment! I felt that the book was very well written. Now I want to go riding!

The main characters of Lacey and Wil were fully realized and well written. I really liked both of them and could relate to them. The side characters were fun as well. I truly cared what happened to them, which for me is important in a book.

This was my first book by this author, but I would definitely read more! The lesbian rep was wonderful and well done. I really enjoyed this book and will recommend it!

Lacey Bishop is a barrel racer who grew up poor but has made a name for herself in the circuit, but has issues steeming from her childhood.

Wil Rivers is a horse trainer who owns a ranch with her dad and is looking for her perfect match.

Lacey and Wil had circled each other for a few years before finally meeting and hitting it off. Wil is old-fashioned, and Lacey is only looking for a hookup.

They get together, and its explosive, but Lacey is terrified and doesn’t trust easily. Wil is patient and sweet and wants nothing more than to make her happy.

There's an arch nemesis that I wanted to punch and adorable horses that I could just kiss.

Well written and very descriptive. I learned a lot about the circuit that I didn't know before.

Overall, I would recommend it. The book didn’t disappoint.

D. Jackson Leigh's "Here For You" is a captivating and heartwarming tale that will take you on an unforgettable journey through the competitive world of barrel racing. From the very first page, Leigh's exceptional storytelling skills transport you to the vibrant and thrilling rodeo arena, where dreams are chased and obstacles are overcome.

One of the standout features of this novel is Leigh's remarkable ability to paint vivid pictures with words. The setting comes alive through her detailed descriptions, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the world of horse racing. The thundering hooves, the smell of dust, and the exhilarating energy of the barrel races leap off the page, making it easy to visualize the intense competition and feel the adrenaline coursing through your veins.

Beyond the enthralling setting, Leigh masterfully crafts complex and relatable characters who face real obstacles. Lacey Bishop, the determined and resilient barrel racer, embodies the strength of the human spirit as she navigates her way from homelessness and poverty to the brink of realizing her dreams. Her unwavering determination and passion for barrel racing make her a truly inspiring protagonist.

Equally compelling is Wil Rivers, the horse trainer striving to save her family's ranch in the aftermath of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. Leigh skillfully explores the challenges faced by the Double R Ranch and the weight of financial pressures, adding a layer of realism to the narrative. The author seamlessly weaves in the effects of real-life issues surrounding the pandemic, allowing the characters to grow and evolve in the face of adversity.

The relationships in "Here For You" are beautifully developed, capturing the intricacies of human connection. The chemistry between Lacey and Wil is palpable, and their journey is filled with emotional depth and tender moments. Leigh delicately navigates their blossoming romance, infusing the story with heart and vulnerability.

What sets this book apart is the way it tackles the themes of trust, sacrifice, and resilience. As Lacey discovers Wil's plan to sell the prized mare, their futures become intertwined, and the tension rises. Leigh skillfully portrays the characters' struggles, showing their growth as they learn to trust each other and face their fears head-on.

Overall, "Here For You" is an absolutely fantastic read that deserves every bit of praise. D. Jackson Leigh's storytelling prowess, combined with the descriptive setting that brings the world of barrel racing to life, make for an enthralling experience. The author's ability to delve into real-life issues and depict characters overcoming obstacles adds depth and relatability to the story. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone seeking a captivating romance filled with passion, resilience, and triumph.

It is recurring that this author writes stories with horses in them, in this case the horses compete in barrel races, cattle roping and activities that complete the rodeo shows. I'm not an expert so, as she does in the prologue, excuse me if I screw up. Not being protagonists in themselves, the horses do have an important part in the story.

The protagonists are Lacey and Wil. Lacey is a competitor in barrel racing, she comes from a very humble social class, she never met her father since he left without knowing that he had gotten her mother pregnant. She, it can be said, is an orphan and has no other family than her horse. Wil is the only daughter of the owner of the Double R Ranch, she does not compete in general, but sometimes she does to show the horses that are trained on her ranch, to sell them to the rich ranchers and oilmen who attend the events. Her reputation and that of her father are excellent, but the covid has left the ranch in a difficult economic situation, which she is trying to overcome with various difficulties.

Lacey and Wil hit it off right away, despite their differences. They see each other often as Lacey competes in all the events and Wil needs to show off his horses. So they, although with doubts, decide to carry on with their relationship. Wil has other priorities initially and Lacey is very insecure about letting herself be loved. And to these doubts and insecurities are added the machinations of a rich and spoiled girl, Brittney, who always wants to get away with it. She wants it all for herself, even if it is at the cost of others. And she wants Wil for a secret relationship while in public she is the perfect heiress that she is going to marry the husband of convenience that her family imposes on her.

All this has given for a quite entertaining story. Some parts are technical language but they are not difficult to follow and understand. My only complaint is that the detailed account ended abruptly and too quickly. The story is concluded, but in a rather undetailed and rushed manner. That was a shame, really. But not to detract from my overall opinion, which has been very positive.

Leigh has given us another look into the world of competitive horse events – this time rodeos and specifically barrel racing. She manages to educate her readers about rodeos without overwhelming the romance between a barrel racer and a ranch owner.

When Lacey Bishop, who has spent most of her adult life going from one rodeo to the next to compete in the barrel racing events, she wins events or at least places high enough in the competitions to be able to compete in the National Rodeo finals. Lacey almost has her life’s goal in her hand when she meets Wil Rivers, a ranch owner and horse trainer, and their lives are turned upside down over the next few weeks.

Leigh has given readers a well-written romance with interesting and likable characters. She has also provided enough information about rodeos and barrel racing to be interesting, but not overwhelming her story.

For those who like their romances angsty, Leigh manages to give you what you want. For those of you who don’t like a lot of angst, you can just speed right through the angst-driven parts and still have read an enjoyable book.

Leigh’s fans are going to love this book and readers who are new to Leigh will definitely want to read her previous books as soon as possible.

🏇 Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! 🏇

Let me start off with the important things. This is a solid, does-what-it-says-on-the-tin, f/f romance. You'll find no surprises here; girl meets girl, sparks fly, they make it work against all odds, HEA. I especially liked the rodeo element, as I'm a sucker for romances with sports or cowboy/cowgirl aesthetic.

Now, what took away two stars. First, the "mean girl" element. We get a two-dimensional character (and her equally flat entourage) straight out of some high-school clique, even though they're all adults. In the end, we're supposed to absolve her, but since she's not really fleshed out but exists only as a stereotypical antagonist to introduce obstacles to our couple, it's not that easy. The addition of is also not that well handled. It's supposed to be a huge shock for Lacey, but again this falls flat as we rush to get back to the romance. She is not really given time to process this, or at least acknowledge that she needs time to absorb this new development.

Overall, recommended. I've already put on my to-read list more books from this author, so that should also count for something.

Leigh has done a wonderful job writing the emotion and chemistry in this lesbian rodeo romance. Wil and Lacey's relationship is magnetic, while keeping tension between them as they have to heal from their past hurts keeping them apart. I couldn't stop reading through the heart of this story!

The one thing keeping me from 5 stars is that this book seemed to have some issues with pacing at the beginning and at the end. If HERE FOR YOU were a sandwich, it'd have a glorious filing with mediocre bread.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Perhaps it is because I have never been a fan of the love at first sight trope, but when Wil makes such a grand gesture by setting up a moonlight picnic for the first date and both of them are contemplating love by day 2, children and marriage by day 3, it seems a bit much.

Leigh is able to pull it back after that though, and we are able to watch Wil and Lacey fall in love through the middle of the book.

But the pacing issue returns in the end, wrapping up in just a few short pages after chapters and chapters of building tension.

It’s obvious from the drama created in this novel that Ms Jackson Leigh knows her way around a horse and their care etc. It gives the book an honesty and depth that comes across to someone like me who’s only been on a horse for about seventeen seconds (I’d say long story but it’s actually extremely short ;-) ) and has no desire to actually watch barrel racing.

The author is an expert at developing her lead characters and this book is no exception. Lacey and Wil have huge issues in their lives but can’t help being drawn to each other. The push/pull, will they/won’t they allows us to travel the plot well. There are some great auxiliary characters (especially Lacey’s ‘surrogate’ parents) but I feel Brittney is just unrealistic and totally unlikeable. She’s so unlikeable, I’m not sure her critical plot point actually works.

But we need angst to drive the story and Ms Jackson Leigh provides it by the shovel load and I wanted to know how the story concluded, so it’s certainly worth a read.

Definitely not a horse girl but the premise of the story sparked my interest so I had to read.

Lacey and Wil meet each other at a competition and are drawn to each other. It's great to see the pacing is realistic and very believable as it intertwines perfectly with the competitions Lacey enters. The story and things happening also made a lot of sense to me but as I do not know anything about these competitions it could be that some things weren't right but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

It was interesting to get flawed MC's who were willing to work on their bagage. Sure, Lacey has trouble letting go of old habits but Wil is patient and dedicated enough to see through it all.

The ex drama was entertaining and not over the top so that was a great addition to the story next to the horse parts.

Little shoutout to Sam and Andie for being such cool troopers and of course Denver and Pepper for making me want to cuddle a horse. No worries, already over it.

What an amazing story of learning to get back on your feet again!
I finished this novel in one day because I just couldn't put Lacey's story down!
I loved every minute of it.
More so because of the horses that were in it.
I enjoyed learning about barrel racing. A fantastic subject and the training that goes into this sport. Just wow!
I had quite the adventure in this book.
Well written and amazing characters.
A wonderful story that will melt your heart and make you feel like you're a part of this story too.
There are also some twists and turns that I didn't see coming and that's what made it an excellent read for me.
5 stars for a well written book. I highly recommend!

I didn't have many expectations about Here for You. I just knew it was about barrel racing. I really liked the characters. Wil and Lacey had good backstories and were very relatable, as were the secondary characters. However, I thought the story itself fell flat. The author tried to push for strong female lead characters ,and she kind of did that but then the story was a bit....incomplete. Typical mean girl story. Deadbeat dad. It all just felt rushed and convenient.

But a fairly enjoyable read I suppose.

I enjoyed this book very much. The author did a great job bringing the details and description of the rodeo scene to life. It also shows how hard one has to work to make it to the top it's not easy. The characters were fully developed and very likeable and were made for each other. I enjoyed getting to know them and the horses as well. The relationship between animal and human was, so beautiful to see. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and family and I look forward to what's next from this author.

I have never outgrown my childhood love of horses and reading a queer book about them is a dream come true! I loved how much Lacey and Wil put into taking care of their horses and the blossoming romance between them. At times, the writing felt a little stilted and the dialogue sometimes came across unnaturally. But the characters' arcs were mostly believable and I liked how it all resolved.

Lacey Bishop has worked hard to find herself posed to go to the National Rodeo Finals for barrel racing. She's been at it by herself for years, with her horse Denver.
When she meets Wil Rivers, a horse trainer and co-owner of Double R Ranch. They are attracted to one another. Their lives become entwined and they help one another. This is a story of love, trust, and a chance for two women to find one another.

Not a bad book but very predictable and straightforward. The characters are not very fleshed out and the plot is summed up nicely by the description on the back. The characters get together and are attracted to each other right off the bat. Their relationship is cute but simple. I really like Wil but Lacey oftentimes annoyed me with her inferiority complex and insecurities. This is a great summer read and overall a fine book.

I have read quite a lot of D Jackson Leigh’s books. This one was a likeable story but I found it a bit bland. I felt there could have been a bit more on the barrel racing circuit and certainly the finals. This was pretty much glossed over. Some of her other stories had a bit more intrigue in them. A wee bit disappointing.

This is a fast paced f/f romance with some spice. Both Lacey and Wil are lovable characters which makes you root for them from the start. They are both strong, independent women with very different living situations but have both suffered loss. There are so many adorable supporting characters and I loved Lacey’s relationship with her found family. It was so sweet how they all rally to support her and show her she’s not alone and that family doesn’t have to mean blood.

As a horse girl, I love a book with a horsey element and I was a huge fan of the rodeo setting. It was described so well that I felt like I was there. Brittney was a great villain and anyone in the horsey world knows that some horse girls can be mean. I found her supposed redemption arc wasn’t fleshed out enough to make it believable but she was an entertaining addition and provided the angst needed.

The end felt a bit rushed especially as so much of the book is focused on the finals being Lacey’s dream. However, the epilogue ties everything up nicely and was the perfect ending.

What a fun view into the world of rodeos and the life of cowgirls. It's believable and heartfelt with emotions. I laughed out loud and shed some tears when it pulled at my heartstrings. This is one of my favorite reads in this genre.

Minor spoilers.
I appreciate a book that takes COVID seriously and discusses the affects of long COVID. Conversely, and I know I’m nitpicking here, but believing that women shouldn’t compete in rodeo because a rodeo accident killed your wife, is definitionally still chauvinism.
