Eye of the Storm picks up the story of Dar Roberts and Kerry Stuart a few months after the story Hurricane Watch ends. At first it looks like they are settling into their lives together but, as readers of this series have learned, life is never simple around Dar and Kerry. Surrounded by endless corporate intrigue, Dar experiences personal discoveries that force her to deal with issues that she had buried long ago and Kerry finally faces the consequences of her own actions. As always, they help each other through these personal challenges that, in the end, strengthen them as individuals and as a couple.

After reading the previous two and loving the first book in series, I must say l feel disappointed by the lack of reader's attention and captivating plot. The author seems to be veering our heroin to some domesticity and while that could have been some appreciative insight into her persona, I fear the delivery is a long unnecessary bore.
This story brought us more characters, action, and a deeper plot. There was so much going on, it felt like we were shifting from one dramatic problem to the next with very little breathing time to catch up. With that being said, we also got to see the two protagonists settled more comfortably in their growing relationship. And as wonderful and sweet they are as a couple, and the more I read this series, I'm starting to miss that edge, the suspense between them. It's all gone soft and tender. I need bite. Kerry can be a bit too magoo for me, and I'll look to Dar to use some of that dominance but she's all hazy-eye mush regarding Kerry.
I'm loving this series, never a dull moment. On to the next.
Hurricane Watch and Eye of the Storm are such testimonies to love, emotion and personal growth. It's a joy to read them, as Ms. Goods is able to capture the lives and tribulations of 2 people who are utterly devoted to each other.
Every emotion is in there and Ms. Goods does a marvelous job to show them to the readers. The interactions and dialogue are written such that you actually see and hear them as if you were standing next to them.
Both Dar and Kerry grow so much, each of them in a different way, but making them both stronger. They both grow in an opposite way though. Dar learns there is way more to life than she has known for the past 15 years. And Kerry grows into this strong woman, after a lifetime of repression.
The books are long, but that doesn't really matter if you read them for the first time. There are, however, moments in both books that, upon re-reading (which I did), could be considered annoying. It sometimes reads as a diary, and the books go into lenghty detail of every day occurances. We get pages upon pages of Dar making breakfast while discussing every step of the way with her dog. Endless pages of horseback riding and diving excursions, pages of a high school reunion. They all serve a purpose, though, but can get tedious.
The books excel when there's corporate intrigue. The "villains" tho are cardboard cut, and just serve as a vehicle to get to parts where Dar and Kerry have to deal with them. And when these clashes come to a conclusion, they are handled a bit clichéd. At the last moment, they manage to dig something up and kick them out of the story. But the way both Dar and Kerry handle it is very well done.
Where they also excel are the moments where Dar and Kerry come to a point where they realize they belong to eachother. To me they are among the best scenes. The moment they discover mutual attraction and give in to it at the beach in Tropical Storm, the scene where Kerry clumsily and adorably proposes to Dar in Hurricane Watch, the emotions just drip of the pages.
Which brings me to the drama parts. Again, these events are there as a vehicle to further progress the growth, but seriously, both the weekend seminar in Hurricane Watch and the hospital scene in Eye of the Storm, to me, were incredibly annoying. I think they are there to bring in the "required" action, but I found it completely unnecessary (although it's very satisfying to see Kerry punch some asshole knock out). Those are the parts you can easily skip if you were to re-read it.
What is an absolute joy to read about, is Dar's father. Such an awesome character.
What I'm not sure about now, though, is if I want to continue the saga. Both Dar and Kerry are in a place now where they belong, and I'm not sure how they could progress any further.
Definitly worth reading. (although, I frowned at the price on amazon for Eye of the Storm. Really, $12 for an ebook? That is 15 years old? Seriously, Amazon, Publisher or Author, you might want to rethink that.)
The adventure continues with Dar and Kerry... and this is the first book where Good starts to clearly reference her Journey of Soulmates Xena altfic. (She can't reference the Xena show, because she's selling these books, but she can cleverly reference her own original altfic that's based on the show.)
The optimal audience for this series may not be the most broad - Xena uber fans who are also familiar with late-90s internet tech (ISDNs, T3s!) - but if you're in that audience, you'll love this series.
It's a fairly good book. But am I the only one who was completely annoyed with Dar's mother? She's just a horrible horrible mother. I wish Dar had just ignored her. I kinda skipped over the parts that involved that woman.
By this book in the series, the link to being fanfic AU is pretty weak and it's largely a series in its own right. I enjoyed the family drama parts in the first half of the book, particularly the reunification of Dar's parents. The second half was weaker, and suffered a bit from the fact that the author is plotting as she goes, so occasionally threads are dropped, or built up only to turn out to be insignificant. (To be fair, I'm reading online so the tidied-up published version may have rectified some of these.)
Despite all that, five stars for the amount of enjoyment I get!
This book was ridiculous. Dar’s mom going from hating her to wanting a relationship just because Andy came back is so stupid. I get that the author is trying to push the whole soulmate thing but a person doesn’t go from being a hateful asshole to a sweet well meaning person just because they have their husband back. The hate group guy is also ridiculous. He could (and should) easily be fired (and sent to jail) for poisoning Dar, but the author keeps him around just so he can play the ridiculous hateful bigot. This book is full of lazy writing.

Just perfect. I love these books and have since I found them online as simple fanfic stories. They're beautiful and loving with just enough drama to keep you hooked. Perfect but I do think they dropped a few scenes when they were converted to books. Or maybe when they were converted to ebooks. Either way I can't wait to reread the rest of the series now that I have them!
And the amazing story about Dar and Kerry continues- I LOVE that each book is a looong book/audiobook all with an amazing storyline. This one was as great as the two other audiobooks (book 1 and 2). I cross my fingers that the rest of this fantastic well written series will be out in audiobooks too!!!
These books are on the longer side, but I'm never bored when reading them. And the fact that there are over a dozen books in this series continually brings me joy because I don't think I could ever get tired of reading about Dar and Kerry. Overall, simply a great read.
Keep in mind that when I rate these I am probably heavily distorted by a lens of nostalgia but I very much enjoyed this installment. Intrigue, action... Yeah, I like it.
This is the third book in the Dar and Kerry series. The author started writing Xena fan fiction while the show was on hiatus. Later she ventured into Uber Xena fiction and the story of Dar and Kerry was born. The characters look like Xena and Gabrielle, but love in current times and work in IT. There are Easter eggs in the story line from the author’s Xena Fan Fiction but you don’t need to have read any of those stories to appreciate this series of books. This series is my favorite in this genre. I have reread this book many times and this series as a whole more than once. I am currently rereading the entire series as the author recently completed a new book in the series. It is posted online at her website and is being edited for publication. I have all her books as ebooks and most of them as physical books as well. I enjoy each book and rereading them is like visiting an old friend. If you love a romance where two people fall in love and them support each other through think and thin, no matter what life throws at them, or if you are a Xenite/Xena Fan, you’ll enjoy Melissa Good’s series. She writes for different story lines- Xena and Gabrielle (based on the series), Conqueror Xena (where Xena stayed a Conquered), Jess and Dev (Science Fiction on a future earth) and Dar and Kerry. I love all of her series. The books are 5 star for me mostly because I love the characters and have gotten such enjoyment from reading them over the years.
Love Dar and Kerry. This was an audio book the second time around. I thought they were going to be coming out much faster, judging from the first 3. Nope, next one is not till August. They are so good. I know they are date with all the IT in it but I still love them.
I really enjoyed this book, there is a lot going on and we get to follow Kerry and Dar in allsorts of situations. The story surrounding Dar’s parents was also an added bonus to the whole book.
