Volume 6 asks the question, Could Tsukushi really fall under Tsukasa Domyoji's spell? Desire and jealousy collide as the crazed Tsukasa seeks revenge on behalf of Tsukushi. Rui Hanazawa surprises everyone with his return from France. Just when you think Tsukasa's mixture of cruelty and compassion is as perplexing as ever, something even stranger happens.
Yōko Kamio (神尾葉子) is a popular Japanese manga artist and writer. She is most famous for Boys Over Flowers (花より男子, Hana Yori Dango?), for which she received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1996. Her work has been translated and distributed in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Yōko Kamio readily admits that she had no intention of becoming a professional manga artist when she was young. Kamio originally went to secretarial school, but her love of drawing soon led her astray. She then eventually entered the professional mangaka field in 1989. In the following years, Kamio published Suki Suki Daisuki, Ano Hi ni Aitai, and Meri-san no Hijitsu in Margaret before she finally created Hana Yori Dango in 1992.
The Hana Yori Dango manga became established relatively quickly in Japan. Many people commended Kamio for her realistic portrayal of high school life and everyday violence through the Hana Yori Dango series. Although Kamio was initially surprised by the confessions of high school violence stated in fan letters, she realized that Tsukushi's fiery character served as a role model for much of Japan's youth and helped others cope with school violence.
Kamio watched as the success of Hana Yori Dango's 1992 début followed through with many more months on the best-sellers list. Voice CDs by SMAP and a live action movie about Hanadan charted the series success in the mid-1990s. By 1995, an animated series for Hana Yori Dango was already in progress and Kamio had also helped pick main leads for the anime show.
Hana Yori Dango ran in the Japanese Margaret magazine as well as the Korean Wink. The series has also been published in Japanese, Chinese, Cantonese, Thai, Korean, French, and English. The anime series has been broadcasted in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, and has also been licensed and released in the United States. Additionally, it was also recreated in a Game Boy Color game (only released in Japan) during the summer of 2001. With its ever-increasing popularity, Hana Yori Dango was then made into a popular live action TV series in Taiwan titled Meteor Garden. The manga series finally ended in Margaret's August 2003 issue, and the 36th tankōbon which included the Akira special "Night of the Crescent Moon" was released in January 2004 as the manga's final volume.
While Yoko Kamio initially wanted Hanazawa Rui to be the main hero of Hana Yori Dango, due to the outstanding personality of Domyoji Tsukasa (and Domyoji also becoming more popular than Rui) she changed the hero role to Domyoji.
Despite Hana Yori Dango's success, Kamio had originally planned to end the series by Spring 2000. However, in February 2000, at a mangaka conference in Taipei, Taiwan Kamio announced that she would continue writing Hana Yori Dango. At one point, she got so wrapped up in the Hana Yori Dango storyline, that she confessed to having dreams about Doumyouji. Of course, she said that "Falling in love with a character that I created is just disgusting..."
I know the main plot from the live drama remakes. There are MANY times in this plot I'm going to be like "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST SAY HOW YOU FEEL STUPID GIRL". This is the first of those times. I get being a little confused in this case. Lots of pretty rich boys giving you attention, sure, sure....but it's a trend of this main character to never know what she wants and while the guys are FAR FAR from blameless she sure doesn't help. But then if she did it wouldn't be much of a love triangle story, would it.... Also going to reiterate a previous comment, this Rui character in the books compared to Meteor Garden is SUCHAJERKFACE.
I am reading HanaYori Dango volume6. The script of this manga is realistic because this story is about daily life of high school students. It contains taming of the beast. It is very romantic love story, so the story is very memorable. Actually, drama version of this manga is very popular in Japan.
The characters make the story interesting. Character design is very attractive because their appearance and personality much the story. Particularly, I like F4’s character design. For example, Domyoji has the hair permed and handsome face, and He is rich and selfish but he has very kind feelings. Rui Hanazawa has blonde hair and he is very cool. Like this, the characters give me impact and It made me enjoy.
Then these characters are drawn by using many screen tones, therefore their costumes are very complex. Actually, they always wear different clothes except school uniform. These clothes are very detailed. Also, the type of artwork is rounded and kind of line is Bold. I think these works make this manga more realistic. However, I think many onomatopoeia is not used in this manga. I don’t know the actual reason but probably the reason is this manga is old manga.
Volume 6 blends high drama with small steps forward in Tsukushi and Tsukasa’s turbulent relationship. The misunderstandings remain frequent, but there’s more emphasis on revealing Tsukasa’s softer side, which adds depth to his character. Some comedic relief moments work well to break up the heavier tension, though a few subplots feel like they stall the main romance. The art captures both exaggerated humor and subtle emotional beats, keeping the volume engaging even when the plot wavers.
So as I am reading more I am getting into the series, I am also starting to recall similarities to the kdrama. I don't think I'd remember all details of the kdrama regardless but the kdrama does seem to have done the manga justice (despite some changes). The graphics are okay, but with the kdrama guys being my original exposure to F4 I can't help hut like them more (also they are real humans). I'm not sure I'll be writing as many longer reviews (more than a few sentences) for much more of the series because I do feel my reviews for the various volumes are a little repetitive. I will definitely say though, if you can read them with as little time gap in between volumes as possible.
I'm barely recovering from everyone's nonchalance at Tsukushi getting raped. And now this?!! TSUKASA LET ME TELL U SOMETHING. NO ONE IS GOING TO LIKE U IF U ACT SO FREAKING STUPID. EVEN TBE READERS WILL GET ANNOYED. BOII U NEED A LIFE. STAY AWAY FROM TSUKUSHI AND LEAVE FOREVER. A MUCH BETTER GUY IS GONNA FALL IN LOVE WITH HER. GO. LEAVE. I'M FED UP.
And then Rui’s back! Doumyuji has admiited his feelings for Makino, he was her savior during the intense bullying she suffered from last volume, they were sweet and even shared a kiss!
Vacation time and everyone was having a good time and then - boom! - Rui and Makino got too emotional that they kissed as well! However, Doumyuji witnessed it. So painful!
THE BEST MANGA I HAVE EVER READ I CAN'T EVEN. I'm waiting for book 10 and 11 to transfer to my library though and it's taking too long! Highly suggest reading though!
