I write. I teach. I teach writing. I write about teaching. I read about writing and write about reading and teach about both when not dealing with the paperwork being a high school educator demands in our current political clime. I'm National Board Certified in my discipline (English).

I've won awards, published constantly since 1989, and just wrapped up a two-year tenure as the editor and designer of Pine Whispers (the newsletter for the North Carolina Poetry Society).

I make time for reflection, which comes in handy with all of the hats I wear. I also buy, sell and collect pop culture items ... from books and comics, to lunch boxes and action figures.

And if you've read this far, please accept my humble thanks.

Very short, but educational if you know nothing about Pompeii. I'm not familiar with Isabel Soto, but her little device she uses (wisp) to time travel is really cool. Illustrations were alright.

Isabelle Soto travels through time and space with her handy gadget the W.I.S.P. She starts out by going to modern day Pompeii, meeting up and tagging along with an author who is doing research and her official tour guide. The author and Isabel travel back in time 17 years prior to the eruption of Vesuvius, then jump ahead to the dangerous day itself. This is a graphic novel and the graphics are wonderful. The story is entertaining but is more educational and factual than just pure fiction. There are fact boxes every now and then telling more information on the topic, a page at the end that lists various information about the topic and the book has an index. An enjoyable and interesting concept for a hi-low reader that imparts a nice dose of history. Reading Level Gr. 3-4. Interest Level Gr. 3-9.

I've discovered several of the Isabel Soto adventures at our local library and I've borrowed all that I can find. The stories are fun and the narrative is informative without being overly didactic.

This book discusses the events leading up to, during and after the devastating volcanic eruption that buried Pompeii. There's quite a bit of current information that shows how the archaeological site was preserved and excavated.

The graphic novel format is entertaining and I love that Isabel is active, daring, and smart. The books are quick reads and the illustrations really help tell the story.

Our girls have enjoyed reading these stories as well and I will look for more of them at our local library.

My 7-year-old liked this well enough that she asked me to get all the rest of the books in the series -- darn the luck .
