Conditioned by the extremism of the 1979 Revolution, her parents sent her to Vienna in 1983 to finish her studies at the French Lyceum in the Austrian capital. She later returned to Tehran and enrolled in the School of Fine Arts, but, in 1994, she moved to France before graduating. She studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg (currently, Haute école des arts du Rhin) and later moved to Paris. According to specialists, Marjane Satrapi is one of the most prominent names in international comics, author of what is, for many, one of the best graphic novels ever published: Persepolis (2000), an autobiographical story that narrates her childhood and adolescence in Iran, of which it has been said that “few works have had such an ability to permeate pop culture and, at the same time, be one of the best historical narratives of our time”. Persepolis won the Angoulême Coup de Coeur Award for Best New Author at the Angoulême Festival. In 2001, the second volume also received the award for Best Script at Angoulême. The third and fourth volumes achieved even greater popularity, garnering international success. In 2007, she teamed up with Vincent Paronnaud to turn the comic into an animated film. The adaptation won the Film Critics Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival in 2007 and the César Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2008, in addition to being nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2008 Oscars. Other notable works of hers include Broderies (2003) (Embroideries, 2005) and Poulet aux prunes (2004) (Chicken with Plums, 2006), which was also adapted to film in 2011. In 2023, she coordinated the book Femme, vie, liberté (Woman, Life, Freedom, 2024) together with political scientist Farid Vahid and historian Abbas Milani, both Iranians, and French reporter Jean-Pierre Perrin, in addition to an international group of seventeen comic book authors (including Spaniards Patricia Bolaños and Paco Roca and several Iranians). In this work, she illustrates the revolts that occurred in Iran after the murder of Mahsa Amini in 2022 at the hands of the so-called "morality police", and denounces the repression and lack of human rights that, according to Satrapi, Iranian society, especially women, suffer at the hands of the regime. The Persian version of this book is accessible online for free to all Iranians.

¡Ay! no saben cuánto me sentí identificada con Marjane en un punto.. hacer cosas que no son de tu agrado sólo para no estar sola y tener "amigos" :(
Obviamente este volumen 3 entrega mucha más información y toca otros temas delicados, pero con aquello realmente me sentí identificada y pude empatizar mucho con la autora.

Bueno no ha estado mal.
Sinopsis: Nos cuenta las vivencias de Marjane Satrapi en Austria, cómo tiene que adaptarse a un `mundo nuevo`, sus primeras relaciones sentimentales y los prejuicios y el desconocimiento que tienen sus compañeros hacia su cultura y su país.
Y termina con ella volviendo a su país para ver a sus padres con la vergüenza de no haber conseguido salir adelante y ser alguien.

No quiero regresar no quiero regresar no quiero que regrese no quiero regresar.
Es que esta historia hace que te des cuenta que los finales felices o no existen o para llegar a ellos esta bieeen cabrón :( Justo cuando crees que la vida de nuestra protagonista no se puede complicar mas le pasa cada cosa... Impotencia es lo que describe lo que siente uno como lector al leer y saber que muchas de estas cosas pasaron y siguen pasando en un lugar del mundo. La realidad es dura y la naturaleza humana también lo es :( Repito, nadie merece vivir así.

چهار سال اقامت مرجان در اطریش تو جلد سوم به تصویر کشیده میشه. اوایل کتاب به توصیفات خنده دار نویسنده از اختلافات فرهنگی کشور سنتی ایران و اروپا می گذره...سر در گمی های نرمال یک مهاجر بخصوص از یک کشور کاملا متفاوت و متضاد
با گذر زمان و مطابقت با این تغییرات و اختلافات اونچه که مرجان رو اذیت می کنه دوری از خانواده و کمبود محبت و نگاه متعصبانه اطریشی ها به یه دختر جهان سومی ایرانیه و عواقبی که همه اینها براش به دنبال داشتن... که حقیقتا ناراحت کننده س.

J'ai aimé et apprecié ce volume de Persepolis et les explorations de jeunesse et de grandir. Surtout ceux d'une Iranienne en Austriche.
Mais ce volume n'étais pas mon préféré. Je pensais que c'était trop concentré sur ses expériences intérieures et qu'il manquait un context plus grand et profond (p. ex. la situation en Austriche pendant les 1980s).
Cela dit, j'ai hâte de lire le dernier volume bientôt.
(Toutes les erreurs dans cette critique sont parce que le français n'est pas ma langue maternelle !)

Cada vez más adulta y rebelde, Marjane sigue deleitándonos con la historia de su vida hecha viñetas. Me ha gustado aunque reconzco que menos que los anteriores porque a veces se me ha hecho un poco más largo y no empatizaba mucho con ella. Aún así creo que es muy recomendable leer todos los tomos para acercarse un poco más a la historia de ese país y como lo vivió ella.

Marjane ya se convierte en una adolecente y pasa esta etapa tan difícil en el extranjero. Es bastante divertida y su característica episódica le da una carácter dinámico a la lectura.

Durante este tercer tomo nuestra protagonista se encuentra en Austria, la adolecencia, aun aquella alejada de la guerra de forma directa tiene sus propias dificultades. Entontrar un lugar donde permanecer es un verdero desafío, adpatarse y relacionarse es otro problema. No es un tomo tan interesante como los anteriores pero es un espacio importante para entender porque alguien que a logrado salir de un pais en guerra decide volver.
Ser migrante es siempre dificil.

Review for the whole Persepolis series:
I re-read this last week and what can I say ? This series gets no less wonderful on the second (or was it my third ?) reading… It is so many things into one!
A wonderful Graphic novel for a start. I love all graphic novels and more generally “BD” as we call them in French: I grew up with Tintin, Asterix and Blake & Mortimer. But Persepolis truly is a gem apart. The amount of meaning, feeling and humour Marjane Satrapi manages to convey through her simple, black & white drawings is incredible ! The simplicity of it acompanies all the better her story.
A delightful autobiography to continue. Dont let the big theme of the Iranian history and Islamic regime fool you… This is first and foremost the tale of the author’s journey from childhood to adulthood, through the epics of war yes, but also of immigration, isolation and plain old adolescence. Marjane tells us of her sheltered childhood in a very well off, close to the old imperial regime, family; of the way her daily life changed after the Islamic revolution; of her troubled adolescence in Vienna… All of it never departing from her sense of humour and a truly bluffing honesty. From her six year old life aspirations (to become ‘the last prophet of the universe’) to her less than glorious moments born out of fear and despair, she doesn’t leave out anything.
And finally, a vivid testimony on Iran: old and new, official and private, terrible and absurd, loved and intolerable, bittersweet in her memories. As I said, this isn’t what stands out most when reading as it tends to fade behind the conductor of Marjane’s journey… but it will certainly stay with you long after closing the last volume, far more than any history book would. You will have ingested not so much dates as a wealth of information on how the current regime came into power and what it’s like to live under it.
As for the theme which occupies me on this blog… As well as a first hand view into modern Iran, Persepolis is also the account of a journey in search of identity: as an individual against the state, an immigrant in europe and finally, upon her return, a stranger in her own country.
So, that makes 4 good reasons to pick up this book… If it’s not enough to send you running to the nearest library, I dont know what is!

Este volumen sigue a Marjane cuando es enviada por sus padres a Viena para evitar que se meta en problemas con el régimen autoritario de su país, pues su rebeldía va en aumento a pesar de que apenas está entrando en su adolescencia. Así, esta obra sigue el tiempo en el que Marji estudia en Austria y sus problemas para adaptarse a la soledad que siente por estar lejos de su país (que está atravesado por la guerra) y de su familia, además de que pasa por la crisis de identidad característica de esa edad.
Lo que me gustó: La autora tiene un estilo agradable para relatar sus experiencias y explorar la soledad, la sensación de desarraigo, y los problemas de salud mental. Es interesante que, al vivir sola en un país lejano con una cultura y un idioma muy diferentes, Marjane experimenta las crisis de la adolescencia al mismo que tiempo que pasa por una fragmentación de su identidad debido a la migración, y eso la lleva a dar muchas vueltas y tropiezos al momento de construir su vida como una persona independiente.
Lo que no me gustó: Creo que este volumen fue mucho menos interesante porque se enfoca más en la vida personal de la autora que en la situación de Irán. Me costó mucho empatizar con Marjane porque la mayoría de sus problemas son provocados por ella misma . Asimismo, estaba tan centrada en sus crisis identitarias que no se preocupaba por lo que pasaba en su país o por lo que estaba pasando en Austria, que era lo que yo esperaba después del volumen 1 y 2. Además, presenta a todos los personajes secundarios de forma plana, como si ella fuera la única persona que está pasando por una situación difícil. Trabajo con personas refugiadas y su vida es muy dura, mientras que la situación de Marjane era bastante cómoda, así que me costaba un poco conectar con la forma en la que enfrentaba los desafíos emocionales que le presentaba la migración.
Lo que me gustó: La autora tiene un estilo agradable para relatar sus experiencias y explorar la soledad, la sensación de desarraigo, y los problemas de salud mental. De los tres primeros libros, creo que este es el que ha debido ser más difícil para la autora. Porque ella no está bien, pero esta vez no es debido a la opresión de Irán y a la guerra.
Estar en un sitio sin las dificultades y problemas de su país parecería motivo suficiente para que le fueran bien las cosas y sin embargo... por desgracia no es así. Todo lo contrario.
(Ojalá haya conseguido reencontrarse y que la vida le dé un poco de tranquilidad, estabilidad y amor.)

El tercer volumen nos cuenta los años que pasa Marjie en Viena. Sus problemas para encontrar su lugar y un hogar sumado a la forma en la que se va perdiendo y encontrando así misma en modas, personas, ideas, etc.

Este volumen ha sido uno de los más duros que he leído hasta ahorita de toda la colección. Sin duda me siento culpable de mis circunstancias, por eso hay que aprovecharlas al máximo para no cegarnos del todo.

... seguimos con “Persépolis”, con la autobiografía de Marjane Satrapi. Este tercer volumen, está centrado en los cuatro años que vivió en Austria, sus primeras relaciones sentimentales y el choque con la cultura occidental. Un choque que se presenta en plena adolescencia, con episodios muy duros. Al final decide volver a casa, volver a Irán.
Enganchada al libro!! Me está gustando mucho.

En esta tercera entrega vemos todos los problemas que tuvo que pasar solo por el hecho de ser inmigrante, el choque cultural y la discriminación.
Vemos de primera mano toda la miseria que pasa por estar en lugar sola, al que no puede acudir a nadie, tratando de encajar en la sociedad, de adaptarse y encontrarse!
Sentir que no está cumpliendo las expectativas y al final poder decir "𝘠 𝘱𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘯 𝘷𝘶𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘢"

He empatizado tanto con la autora en este tomo... Los cambios, el crecimiento, adaptarte para encajar, cambiar para encajar. Crecer. Toca muchos temas que los adolescentes experimentas a lo largo de su crecimiento, agregando también los conflictos en el mundo que por supuesto también la influyeron.
Estoy amando mucho cómo la autora cuenta los hechos históricos, su vida y como ambos se entrelazan. Además de su gráfica que me gusta muchísimo

En esta 4 entrega, la trama gira en torno a los conflictos internos de Marjane. A pesar de recibir el soporte de sus padres, está se entrega al vicio para curar sus penas, miedos, rechazos y decepciones amorosas.
Luego de todas esas experiencias desarrolla una vision nihilista de la vida, que la lleva a reflexionar y volver a sus raíces.

1.5 Me pareció más interesante el tomo anterior, en este me ha costado más entrar y el dibujo ha vuelto a gustarme menos. No aporta prácticamente nada. Además no esperaba que el tomo se desarrollase así, eso sí, me ha gustado más el final que el del anterior. A ver cómo acaba con el último tomo.

Este tomo es mi menos favorito de los que llevo, aunque es importante en su arco 😂, pero es más adolescente, menos contexto histórico y más de crecimiento personal y vivir sin sus padres.
