Re-read 2023 for the first 3 volumes: Had a bit of travel today to visit my dad (long story) and decided I could use some good manga in my life so why not do another re-read this one (and other volumes). These volumes are so good and I just love how different it from the anime, it is a whole different story. Struggled a bit with Natsuki again because she is such a stuck-up bitch. I do love all the monsters, the battles, the moments with the "keys", the excitement that is building up, and I don't mind it being ecchi. I also love that each volume has interviews with VA and other bits of extra information + extra illustrations at the end.

---------------------------------------

Re-read 2021: This was pretty good, though boy it is so different from the anime at times. Haha. Way more perverted as well and whereas I liked Natsuki a bit in the anime... I disliked her so much in this one. Egotistical girl from hell. Poor Tate. Lots of action. Lots of things go boom. I really had fun reading this one.

Warning: Rape, tentacle monsters doing stuff.

--------------------------

Decided to re-re-watch the anime, and I thought since I was doing that, let me re-read the manga.

The manga has many things in common with the anime, but also a lot not. It is far more ecchi and the fights are totally different, also the key part.

But it is a good manga, I really love the little interviews with the voice actors and staff.

Yes, this manga is horrible. But if you're a sexistic weirdo or a die-hard fan of My Hime anime, you might actually enjoy this title.. ;-)

I'd give 5 stars for the anime, but not the books. The anime is way better than this.

This is a book that attracts customers by its art. The back cover seems to describe an interesting story. Unfortunately, I learned more of the story from the back cover than from the contents which had about as many words as pictures. This is based on an anime, so maybe if you've seen the anime the inside makes sense.

One down and four to go.

Très différent de l'anime, dont je suis une grande fan.
Certains personnages que j'aime bien dans l'anime sont insupportables ici... Je ne sais pas si je lirais la suite tout de suite ou si je vais juste me replonger dans l'autre support...

I've only read the first two, but I think the anime is probably still going to be better than the manga after I finish the series. For one thing, the anime wasn't as focused on the girl fight over Yuuichi. The powers rely on their connection to a guy in the manga whereas in the anime they are simply connected to strong emotions such as the protective love of a sibling, friend or lover. Also, the massive focus on boobs and sexuality is slightly uncomfortable. I certainly wouldn't want someone looking over my shoulder on some of these pages...
Having finished the last volume (there are only five...), the anime is definitively better than the manga. The anime finishes with just about everything resolved, but this only solves things with the Hime-boshi. The manga has some neat ideas, instead of the Child being tied to the most important person in your life (with that person dying if the Child is defeated), there are Keys who enable the HiME to summon her Child. The Keys do die if the Child is defeated, but that isn't necessarily the end of that HiME. There were two more beings connected to the Hime-boshi than in the anime. They were pretty neat although nothing about them was explained and they had no history. I didn't like who they had as the Obsidian Lord and Mai seemed much weaker in this version of the story. I didn't like Natsuki as well in this either because she was so focused on disliking Mai that she lost a lot of depth.

I read this to see if I should add it to the teen or adult graphic novel collections after it was donated. It's not my cup of tea. I thought that several things were happening at once and that there was no back story to ease the reader into the plot. I'm assuming that this is for the fans of the anime.
