The night before a job interview in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, geology professor Steven McCormick has a one-night stand with Zach, a young man he meets at a bar. When he gets the job and returns to the U.P. a few months later, he meets Zach again, and the two become friends. They both want more, but Steven can tell Zach is hiding something, so he's reluctant to open his heart.
Zach wants to reveal his true self to Steven; however, his clan leader, Wyatt, has forbidden it. When Steven winds up in a dangerous position during a mineral-collecting retreat, Zach realizes he can help, but only if he shifts. Will Zach risk being kicked out of his clan to save the man he loves?
Taylor has been reading and writing for as long as she can remember. As a child and a teenager, she spent many weekends holed up in her room with her books. If she didn’t like something about a story, she’d often take it upon herself to write her own version. As an adult, she wrote a bit of fanfiction, but quickly discovered creating her own characters was more fun.
She’s lived in the Detroit metropolitan area her entire life. When she’s not reading or writing (or working at the evil day job), she can often be found playing with her bird or her cats, walking, sewing, looking at the night sky, taking pictures of the birds in her backyard, volunteering at a wildlife rehab, or watching baseball or hockey.
Taylor is most creative after midnight but unfortunately has a job that usually requires her to be awake by 7:30 a.m. She just knows that the sleep deprivation will catch up to her one of these days.
Steven is up checking out the Upper Peninsula in Michigan for a possible a geology teaching job at the college there. He meets Zach at the bar and they have a one night stand. He gets the job and a few months later he's back and runs into Zach at the mine where he gives tours. He's a bit stand-offish, but agrees to be friends even though Zach wants more. Of course Zach has a secret and when on a camping/field trip with some high school students, Steven gets himself in a pickle, Zach goes against his clan's leader and reveals himself to Steven to save him. This then leads to a crisis within Zach's clan as they decide what to do with him and the fact that Steven knows their secret. I enjoyed this one, it's pretty light on the whole and I liked that Steven pulled back when he moved there, when Zach, Mr. One-Night-Stand, wanted more and let their friendship develop. Zach's personality was also very likable. A cute fast little read.
Good short paranormal m/m romance about a bobcat shifter in Michigan's Upper Peninsula who's been limiting himself to one-night stands because there aren't any other gay shifters in the area and he knows his clan leader will never accept an outsider.
