Building Magic

When architecture student and summertime welder Tina Moreland develops a reputation as a peeping Tom, it isn’t the first time she’s been teased for being different. Catching a glimpse of the man of her dreams is worth the aggravation. But when she witnesses him doing something stranger than stripping in his hightower office, it’s enough to make her forget that when working unharnessed on the fifth floor, the first step is a long way down.

Working in the human world leaves Devin Ken’Draga frustrated and exhausted. Things aren’t going well. Devin is the Kenta – prime dragon - in a world not far from earth, only a magical breath of flame away. It is a world that is having problems, and he is expected to solve them. The question is how. Civil war has shattered his land and destroyed his home. He can’t come up with an Answer, and the Elders can only tell him he will find what he needs on Earth.

Devin doesn’t have time to rescue a damsel in distress. But since she is literally falling at his feet, he can’t help but to save Tina. Bringing her home wasn’t part of the plan, but once they fall through the magical portal together, there is no going back. It is only when he spreads his wings in his true dragon form that Devin realizes something he hadn’t anticipated – the woman is a virgin, a temptation no dragon can resist.

Together Devin and Tina create a sensual bond, gladly sacrificing her virginity to protect her from the dragon males who might think that hurting her would be a good way to hurt Devin. Her virginity is a gift – with it’s loss comes a release of power that Devin collects into a gemstone. It isn’t enough to stop the war, and Devin is worried. There is no way for him or Tina to ever return to Earth – the magic that rules the land only allows that trip once. He’s lost his chance to bring back a way to find peace for his people. The entire Southern Dragon race is at risk, so many have dies from the war. He turns to Tina for distraction and comfort.

Tina knows Devin is worried and does what she can to soothe him. But she is all that he brought back from Earth – what more can she do to save his people? The questions haunt her. When inspiration strikes, she develops a plan to save them, not realizing how it will hurt Devin. Devin will do anything to save his people, but he must deal with his inner demons, along with those who oppose him physically. Together they must find a way to stand together.

When the time comes, Tina proves her worth to Devin and all the dragons. Devin fights to protect her and his people, and using the magic from their first lovemaking he gifts her with it, mating with her for life and giving his people hope along with a new queen.

To My I am thrilled to bring you a taste of the dragon world of Sa’Harin! My heroine, Tina, found it to be an eye-opener, and that’s quite a compliment from a reputed Peeping Tom. Devin gives her a lot to look at – between his delicious masculinity and his jaw-dropping beauty as a powerful dragon. Enjoy!

Lilly Cain is a wild woman with a deep throaty laugh, plunging necklines and a great lover of all things sensual - perfume, chocolate, silk! She never has to worry about finding a date or keeping a man in line. She keeps her blonde hair long and curly, wears beautiful clothes and loves loud music. Lilly lives her private life in the pages of her books.

When not pretending to be Lilly, I am a single mom who loves reading and writing, dabbling in art and loving and caring for my two daughters. I love romance and the freedom erotic fantasy provides my imagination. I love the chilling moments in my novels as much as the steaming hot interludes. My stories are an escape and a release. I hope that they can give you that power, too.

This book is an erotic adult fairy story. It is a light-hearted fun book to read where love overcomes evil.

The plot is handled well making the dragon realm 'Saharin' believable. Both the hero and heroine are strong characters and are great together. I hope the author revisits 'Sahrin' and the characters again in future books.

I recommend 'Building Magic' by Lilly Caine to anyone who loves an erotic fun-filled fantasy and enjoys an escape from real life.

Building Magic by Lilly Cain
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Devin Ken’Draga is the Kenta of his clan. He has been sent to Earth to find on object that will stop the war between the dragons. He has searched the world over but has been unsuccessful in finding this item. Little did he know that it would fall right into his claws?

Tina Moreland is a one of a kind. She is a female welder in a man’s world but she doesn’t let that bother her. She has a love of architecture and how things are made from the ground up. When she went to work this morning, she never expected to be putting her talents to use in another dimension.

Normally I would question the believability of a story when the heroine is dumped into a whole new universe with Dragons, none the less and she just accepts it but not this time. The writer gives us a glimpse into Tina’s past as a foster child and the fact that she has had to adapt very quickly to changes in her environment. Her childhood helped to prepare her for her new role in life as Devin’s ineshta and Queen.

Tina was a surprise to me. She was a strong independent female that knew what she wanted out of life. She is going to school to get her PhD and she’s a peeping Tom, what’s not to love. She never expected to end up in the lands of the dragons but she saw beauty and a way to use her skills to help the dragons start to heal.

Devin is just plain sexy. He is an alpha male but there is such sadness in him. He can’t find what he is looking for on Earth and he knows his time is running out. He wants to find a way to stop the war because it’s killing off their race and he is living in the shadow of his father abdicating his position as Kenta.

Tina and Devin are good together and I loved the ending, it was perfect. I was afraid for them because she is human and has a much shorter lifespan than him. The bathtub scene was very steamy but my favorite scene was the voyeur scene at the Oasis of Intent, it was very HOT.

The author does an excellent job of describing the scenery and significance of the layout. It helped to show that there was a place for Tina in this world and it gave her purpose. The story provided enough details without overwhelming the story with them.

There were some humorous lines in this book; at times, I couldn’t help but laugh. There were also some very touching moments between the main characters. The main focus of the book is on Tina and Devon with a few secondary characters scattered in.

Overall I enjoyed Building Magic and give it 4 Flaming Hearts.

A shapeshifting/fantasy romance with some character development, good story and sequence of events. I would've like to see some sharpness, crispness to the sex scenes - they seemed a bit muted for my tastes. I'm interested to see what this author comes up with next. I would rate this book between two and half divas. Reviewed by Sadie

From peeping tomettes to dragons fighting in mid air Building magic takes you into a realm filled with passion, war, and a people so unique you wish you were part of them. The hero and heroine (Devin and Tina) are brought together by sheer chance, since she kinda almost died looking at his "treasure." I seriously lol'd at times, was pissed at others, and damn near cried as well. This book, in all of its 109 page glory is definitely worthy of multiple reads. I give it four divas and a slight request....I wants me one of those dragon men too!! :D Reviewed by M.N. Mori

Building Magic by Lilly Cain is a fun and sexy trip to another world, one filled with dragons. Obviously if you've turned off at the thought of dragons and magic, this isn't the story for you. But if that sounds like something you'd like, or even if you think you can suspend your disbelief for the duration of the ebook, you'll find this to be a thoroughly enjoyable story.

The only bad point I could find with this story (and it's not really an issue) is the resolution came at the absolute last minute, which may perhaps makes the ending feel a little rushed, but not overly so.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to buy a pair of binoculars so I can search for my own dragon king. I give this ebook 5 divas. Reviewed by Seeing Stars

I really enjoyed this quick read. The idea that Tina was passing her lunch watching Devin strip down and bask in the sunshine. Tina was a Peeping Tom as she sat mesmerized enjoying Devin flourish under the suns benevolent influence. This story made me want to look out the window and see what I could see and last week it was the dive team. Luckily our windows are fall proof. Tina stepped once, twice and then an unlucky third time, just to get a better look. But instead of getting to savor the view, she walked right off the fifth floor iron skeleton. Her mind screams out and who hears? None other than Devin. As he pulls all of his magic forth, he feels that he is losing her. The only solution to save her is to pull magic from his plane and draw her to him. Tina is saved from falling, but she is also brought over to his plane and there is no return.

While the idea of never going home again doesn’t scare Tina as much as I would expect, the idea of being forced to mate with one of the scaled beasts she encounters is scary. Again, the only solution for Devin is to claim her himself. The romance is limited, but the mutual attraction and bonding was well written. I enjoyed the power struggle between Devin and Tina and her attempts to insert herself into the ruling Dragon council. I found myself wanting more…more sub-plots, more romance with perhaps a second in command and a dragoness, just more. This story and concept would have easily made for a great full length novel. I will enjoy reading more from Lilly Cain.

Lilly Cain’s Novella Building Magic introduces her readers to Sa’Harin the world of dragons. Her heroine Tina Moreland has developed a bit of a peeking habit. When the object of her new hobby starts doing something really strange one day she finds herself thrown into a world of magic, dragons, and hot sex.

The two main characters are written as being definite, solid examples of what is good in the world. Tina is intelligent, good hearted, and comparatively weak. She’s put into the damsel in distress position almost immediately, but that makes sense because she’s human. Devin is sex incarnate, an alpha male hero with a quick temper and the determination to save his clan. He is unquestionably the good guy. He’s heroic if a little hard headed, strong if somewhat temperamental, and all kinds of dedicated.

This is definitely a melodrama the hero is as good as good can be, the villain is evil enough to sacrifice anything for power, and there is nothing in between. It is also bite sized, and at a hundred and twelve pages it feels a little rushed towards the end. Little is done with most of the minor characters, so I’m hoping that if Cain writes more in Sa’Harin they will be given more attention. There were a couple of plot holes that bother me, but the magic allows them to be shrugged off. If I find more by this author I’d probably read it, but I don’t think I’m going to seek out her other works.

This was a really good Erotic Fantasy Romance. The story was interesting from beginning to end. The heroine Tina had always felt like an outcast, with her intelligence, red hair and flat chest, she felt she would never find a man who would love her.

Devin is the King of 5 clans of Dragons. He is sent to earth to find something to help the clans stop fighting and become united again. What he finds is Tina.

Once Devin had Tina in his claws all's it took was one sniff of her and he had to have her. Tina was extremely attracted to Devin and wanted him too. He made her feel like no other man has ever made her feel before. When Devin claims Tina as his mate the claiming was HOT! As where the rest of the love scenes.

There was a battles between Devin and a power hungry dragon. I really liked the imagination used in this scene and this is where Devin and Tina's love shone through.

The ending was very happy indeed with Devin and Tina in love and the clans all reunited.

The only thing I wish is that this story would have been a bit longer.

If you like Erotic Fantasy Romance stories with shapeshifting dragons, magic, and hot love scenes I'd say give this book a try. I'm sure glad I did.

The dragon shifters I tend to stay away from, but the synopsis on this one sounded intriguing. My main reason for the skittishness is that they do tend to be a little over the top. While I like dragons, authors sometimes portray dragon/men doing odd things that I really don't find sexy. Cain did a great job of proving my racism unfounded though, and had me entertained with a very good dragon story. While some parts did have me go "Oh my," I was quickly engrossed and found the ebook quite charming. Read More

I enjoyed reading Building Magic by Lilly Cain. I loved that before Tina meets up with Devin she is a welder. She is a bit of a loner that has had to be tough most of her life. I found it to be a little too convenient that she had so few ties in her life that it was so easy to leave and not really look back. Devin really pissed me off at one point. Here is this woman that is giving up everything and he totally dismisses her ideas to help his people. Dude get the hell over yourself! All in all not a bad story line, it kept me interested, and the descriptions of the scenery while flying through the air as dragons - very cool. If you enjoy hot guys that can shift into dragons and strong women that can hold their own with a bit of romance thrown in to hold the two together then I definitely recommend you read Building Magic by Lilly Cain.

I really enjoyed this. I didn't know it was going to be a dragon book -- the excerpt I read mentioned magic, but not what kind -- but it was very interesting. It didn't end up going the direction I thought it would, but it was good regardless. I do have a problem with the fact that Devin was fighting Salin at the end and he wasn't even thinking about Tina, though he thought he was going to die. I'm also not sure why Tina thought he was dead. But I liked Tina... she definitely made the best of the hand she was dealt.

I was plesantly surprised by this book and thought it was highly unique and I thoroughly enjoyed the heroine. If you are looking for more Dragon shifter romances I would suggest putting this one on your list. There were a few things about the writing that would occassionally pull me out of the story. Nothing big, or it wouldn't have still received 3 Hearts, but the occassional word choice here and there felt off to me. Again, this book suprised me with how creative the story was and I enjoyed the world-building very much.
